Oh okay. I haven't been asked to slap on an additional one. Guess I don't mail heavy letters.

@TimStone did he die eating shit?
the song wasn't an order to him to eat actual shit

1:37 AM
> Visual historians take note: As Chileans vote today for the abolition of the 1980 constitution imposed by the brutal military regime of Augusto Pinochet, this photo-montage of the disintegrating dictator is trending across social media #PlebiscitoChile t.co/pDI5GwPaJu

Nice

señor reagan, I don't feel too good

@TimStone I don't normally say catty things when I hear of a death, but: Eat shit, Bob.

1:55 AM
anyone who saw that would be thinking the exact same when they see his name so don't worry about sounding catty

2:10 AM
@TimStone yeh, Pence's Inner Circle getting infected isn't any sort of sign or anything

2 hours later…
4:03 AM
@Jolenealaska And she calls herself a "moderate"

5:02 AM
> Moderate is an ideological category which designates a rejection of radical or extreme views, especially in regard to politics and religion.
maybe the recent views have all been to extreme so she rejects them all

Yeah, so interesting how nowadays people who don't brandish guns and march with Proud Boys, who at least have some qualms about doing the Nazi salute could count as "moderates", notwithstanding their own racist, chauvinist, homophobic prejudices. What kind of world have we come to in 2020.

@Memor-X This is brilliant

Here's the fully edited version of Trumps final 60 minutes meltdown:
aka just includes some commentary clarifying what was said off screen.

12:56 PM
In the sign of a very stable democracy, someone set a ballot box on fire in Boston

The concept itself of a ballot box seems so weird to me

@TimStone Golly gee I wonder which candidate the arsonist supported.
> There were 122 ballots inside the box when officials emptied it Sunday morning, 87 of which were legible and able to be processed. Galvin said in a phone interview that of the remaining 35, most “probably could be read,” meaning they could possibly be saved, but that five to 10 were “badly damaged” and unreadable. The box had last been emptied by the Boston Elections Department just before 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

1:25 PM
Turnout for this election will probably be in the region of 150m people. Trump's still projected to get ~45% of the popular vote, that's 68m-ish people voting for him. It boggles my mind.

@fredley 68 million racists
That's crazy
If racists were their own country, they'd be bigger than France

@Nzall I think that's reductive, but 68m people voting for a racist is bad.

John Rogers was being mostly tongue-in-cheek when he talked about the "crazification factor", but subsequent years have shown it to be remarkably prescient
That works out to, what, 22% ish of the US? So it's in line with the 25-30% I've come to expect.
Which is pretty horrifying, honestly.

I've posted it before, but this is a really good series on how radicalisation happens. There aren't 68m awful people, but there are enough awful people can manipulate a much larger group of people into a result like this.

People turn to racism when they get desperate.

1:30 PM
@fredley racist, sexist, rapist, tax dodger, draft dodger, ableist, plague spreader, antienvironmentalist,...

COVID-19 is making people desperate
People are dying

People have been saying since 2016 "Trump's support is a sign of economic desperation" and the stats just don't reflect that.

Stats mean nothing

er what

1:33 PM

@skullpatrol People are more susceptible to division when things are desperate, and there are people out there exploiting that along racist lines.

agreed.

this is not the same as saying "data is meaningless so I'm just going to assume whatever my gut instinct says is true"
the correlation between economic distress and trump support is weak to nonexistent; the correlation with feelings of xenophobia, fear of change, and fear of loss of status is strong. If you pretend it's all down to economic factors you will keep running face first into the problem that making life better for bigots will not actually win their votes unless you are also making life worse for the people they hate.

@BradC sorry for starring all the news items, it won't happen again :-)

@skullpatrol hey, no prob. Its just more useful when its slightly more selective

1:39 PM
agreed.

homegrown terrorists
buy local
CoVid not included

@TimStone oh for fuck sake we already had that on the bingo card
if this doesn't drill in how stupid an idea a ballot box is then i don't know what will
the fact this hasn't happened before this year is surprising

@TimStone that sounds like a scandal, to me
Like the watergate tapes
Whoever loses the election is going to cry "fowl play" and demand an investigation

3 hours later…
5:02 PM
@Unionhawk this is probably illegal, right?

@Nzall There's no way it's legal, so gotta be illegal.
In fact that "we're not telling you how to vote" line is probably tossed in there to try and cover their ass, since they know what they're doing is illegal.

@Wipqozn blocked in EU

@Nzall lol of course

@Nzall Most of it is just shocked responses from the residents. The only addition is "The Colorado Secretary of State’s office confirmed they have received a complaint, and told 9NEWS they passed it along to the Attorney General"

But basically it's a trailer park in Colorado

5:15 PM
@PrivatePansy Is the AG GOP or DEM?

> The Colorado Secretary of State’s office confirmed they have received a complaint, and told 9NEWS they passed it along to the Attorney General.

@Wipqozn yeah, but if the Attorney General is GOP, they might just ignore it

1 hour later…
6:19 PM
Who has "The US government promised to vaccinate Santa Claus against deadly virus" on their 2020 bingo cards?

@Nzall I dunno, I'd forward the letter to the state attorney general and secretary of state because probably not

VMI: Virginia Military Institute, an old military college in Virginia

6:55 PM
Texas is leading the US in voter turnout right now?
wtf is this madness

@Yuuki you know what the really crazy thing is? Trump and Biden are neck and neck in Texas AFAIK
Like, Biden might actually win Texas

IIRC, early voting favors democrats so I 'unno
wouldn't get your hopes up
speaking as a texan, never get your hopes up for texas politics

@Yuuki yeah, I know, it's unlikely. Last time a Democrat won Texas was Jimmy Carter in the 80s

Companies publicly claim they support Black Lives Matter but actually fight mass incarceration reform attempts and defunding the police. Shame.
Everything is about PR. They think paying lip service will help them sell more stuff. We will see how far that kind of hypocrisy will get them.

11:10 PM
@EddieKal i can't remember if they did or not but i would not be surprised if Ubisoft had a BLM Logo originally before they made it a Terrorist Logo
but is very obvious with Pride Month, everyone makes a rainbow icon or statement for just that one month in the year
and those who yell the loudest of how "inclusive" they are are generally the one hiding the most skeletons in the closest

11:23 PM
@Memor-X Exactly. A lot of people go about this the same way they get their car tags. They only have to worry about it once a year. They say some things that they think they should say. They say them loud. They join a parade. And they congratulate themselves for being so "inclusive" and they think they've gotten that part taken care of for the rest of the year.

Tim
11:45 PM
anyone notices the differences between the rallies of the two campaigns? They are not comparable.
I am deeply worried
The final debate also left me an impression opposite to the polls on the MSM
Bernie could have brought out more enthusiasm
