From NPR. NPR later changed the article title to Trump Declines To Promise Peaceful Transfer Of Power After Election

Q: Has China eliminated local transmission of COVID-19 within its borders?

Obie 2.0Many sources assert that China appears to have eliminated COVID-19 within the country, except for the odd imported case or cluster, which is quickly isolated and eliminated. For instance, Worldometer's coronavirus tracker, based on data provided by each country's government, shows no new cases fo...

5:08 AM
> China reported
i expect alot would be "China reported" which can be taken with a grain of salt

@skullpatrol So I actually think the best proof would be the precautions (or therelackof) that are taken - you can't cover up something like Covid not just because people get sick, but also because the virus grows exponentially, and if you don't ask people to take precautions then very soon the virus will grow to the point where it's impossible to hide
And of course if you do ask people to take precautions while publicly claiming the virus doesn't exist, well... yeah, that's just even more suspicious

5:22 AM
And also we all know what happens when you do try to reopen without getting the virus actually under control (damn it, get it together United States)

I think the point is that they are covering it up.
come on, 7 days without a single case?

5:55 AM
Again, I posit that you can’t (at least to within one or two order of magnitudes). Sure the exact number can and probably is fudged, but the people there act as if the virus is under control
Which if you try to do when the virus is not in fact under control, the cases will explode

@PrivatePansy Also Belgium. We're having our cases rise exponentially, to the same levels as back in April, but we've actually relaxed the measures, because there aren't nearly as many hospitalizations and deaths

@Nzall We're having the same situation (rising cases, to same/greater levels) but there aren't as many deaths. However there is much more testing now, so the numbers are not directly comparable. Also we killed off all the old people in round one. However we are having stricter measures, although not as much as March/April.

@fredley yeah, that's what I heard as the main explanation: we just VASTLY undertested in March and April, so the cases were underreported massively. Now that we test everyone who is showing symptoms as well as everyone who comes from abroad, we're having a lot of cases we wouldn't have noticed before

@Nzall Oh lol you're testing people who come from abroad? We're just like "nope, 2 week quarantine for you!"
But recent antibody testing has not been that positive, percentage having antibodies is still v low, so it's still a big threat

@fredley if you went to a red area, so heavily infected areas, you're required to get tested when you return

We do now finally have an app

11:06 AM
though there are some dumb things like "it only applies if you stopped in the red area within the last 48 hours", which means that if you go to an orange area for the last 2 days of your vacation, you're suddenly not required to test?

11:43 AM
@fredley There's a coV app?

@skullpatrol Yarp. NHS app, using the Google/Apple decentralised tracking system
Also has alerts for local outbreaks
(postcode prefix level)

I heard Apple was trying to make a coV watch.

> Louisville Police now saying, “We’re going to arrest every single person who is here right now.” There are thousands of people protesting. They just ripped up a huge banner of Breonna Taylor before shooting munitions at those holding it. This is what fascism looks like. twitter.com/sethdunlap/status/1308857884948729864?s=19
> Of course that doesn’t apply to the right wing militia members walking around with assault rifles on full tac gear. Just the unarmed Breonna Taylor protesters. Again, this is what fascism looks like.

@fredley The only fair punishment for statements like this coming from the POTUS should be life imprisonment.

Well that's pretty much what's coming to him once his term's over. In that sense he's behaving very rationally.

I mean I doubt it
The democrats are cowards

This isn't about the dems, this is about the law.
Currently he's got a lot of people jamming the wheels of justice for him. Outside of the presidency, that ain't happening any more.

12:32 PM
I would be absolutely shocked if the legal system moved against him without a push from the government.
The American legal system is just as corrupt as it's government. The entire country is broken.

1:33 PM
@TimStone To be fair, Lindsey Graham's statement is accurate. Shooting anyone outside of warzones or areas covered by castle doctrine laws is a crime
And yes, I think that should also apply to the police who shot Breonna Taylor
Though what I didn't know about that story was that it was Breonna's partner who fired the first shots

Yeah because they broke into his house

@Unionhawk definitely true, and they broke into the wrong house AFAIK
Which was the crime to begin with
That's why I'm saying "areas covered by castle doctrine laws". AFAIK Kentucky has a Stand your Ground law

Yes, it's too accurate in that it's definitely a crime to shoot police but when police shoot people it's nbd

"Number two, what's the deal with these outside financed groups with a uhaul truck who's paying for that"

Unloading uhauls is terrorism

1:46 PM
"WHO FINANCED A $19.95 + $0.99/mile TRUCK RENTAL"
joe biden at least had a good statement standing with protesto-- hahaha nah I'm just kidding

It's not fair to sue tucker carlson because everything he does is done with Actual Malice

That blurb that tells us a movie isn't based on any real people except it's just "Tucker Carlson is a bad person and none of this is real"

@TimStone "The Take"?

I deleted as I will not be sharing

2:44 PM
> Trump says he would accept Supreme Court election ruling after declining to commit to peaceful transfer
lmfao
"Once the Supreme Court, which I'm adding another Justice to, votes in my favour, I'll totally accept it"

oh man, it is so frustrating seeing one of the most important countries in the world devolve in a dictatorship and not really being able to do anything about it...

3:01 PM
I mean this would literally be the second time The Court stole an election
or, I suppose at least the second time idk
also trump v biden was going to be at least 5-4 anyway because, while john roberts likes to pretend to have higher principles about The Law or whatever, the guy understands that him saying that actually voting is fake would advance the long term conservative project as well as the short term one
or I suppose now it'll go 5-4 and john roberts gets to pretend to have higher principles about The Law or whatever anyway while still getting the result he wants :)

@TimStone wait someone made a campaign ad themed around atilla the hun?
uh ok

4:16 PM
Something I'm wondering: could the UN decide to send independent observers to the US elections?
Like, not that it matters because AFAIK those observers generally are just window dressing

ah shit turns out fascism comes for most of us alas

5:06 PM
@fredley No country for old men huh?
@TimStone It really amazes me that a lot of people are talking about it as if this was a new thing in the U.S. Wake up people! America has always had a fascist bone. Fascism has always been extremely close to home. This country has had many shameful chapters in its history of treating certain groups with utmost inhumanity. We are fighting a resurgence of fascism in this country and on a global scale, but it's always been there and pretending otherwise isn't going to help.

5:23 PM
Well in this case I guess they figured because they were echoing the narrative the police like that they were "on the same side", but it turns out that it doesn't work that way, in fascism!

6:03 PM
@TimStone Honestly it's completely unreal just how bad and blatant the cops and your government are being lately.

6:35 PM
> A nationwide injunction issued last week in Yakima, Washington, should be amended to acknowledge that the machines can’t be put back together, DeJoy and the USPS said in a filing in the case on Wednesday. The machines, dismantled under a DeJoy initiative, were stripped for parts to improve or repair other machines, they said.

(cough) Bullshit (cough)
Sure, some machines may have been cannibalized for some parts, but many of the machines were simply dismantled and disposed of.

@MBraedley yep. And it might in fact be true that they can't reassemble some or all of them, due to reuse or disposal of key parts, but still, I can't imagine the judge will be happy

7:06 PM
And if what he said was really true, then sort facilities that had 2 fully functioning machines (and only 2) wouldn't have had both of them decommissioned, which seems to have happened at least once.
If you're decommissioning a machines for spare parts that aren't weatherized, you don't store pieces out in the parking lot next to the dumpsters.

4 hours later…
11:36 PM
@TimStone fascism is great so long as it aligns with what you believe is right, but when it doesn't no one will ever know
