@Wipqozn i saw this the other day, shame that Nazi's can't just keep to their right facing one

> The US Government has secured an arrangement with Gilead Science to receive 100 per cent of all remdesivir drugs produced in July, followed by 90 per cent of production in the subsequent two months.
oh my god. can the US Government be any more shit?
like this only can happen because Gilead Science has an exclusive patent
> Gilead ignored calls by 150 civil society organisations, including Medicine Sans Frontiers, to forgo its patents on remdesivir, which means it controls who can produce the drug.
lets not forget

@Memor-X honestly drug patents should be legal to ignore in these cases

theguardian.com/media/2020/jul/01/… Another 2 live interviews getting interrupted by children

@Ave patents like these should be nullified, because you know someone is going to patent the cure for cancer one day
(Family Guy even joked about this)

@Memor-X apparently it was an entire episode around the topic?

@Nzall i say 1/2 because when it's Brian and Stewy centric episode, there's generally 2 plots going on unless it's a Time Travel one
@Nzall yeh that's the episode, though i thought Carter's plan was to sell the cure, but seems it it's to withhold it so to bill people for treatment. which with a patent you would do anyway

@TimStone This means this case won't be heard until the next term, so won't be resolved before the election. SCOTUS had already stayed the ruling that would have allowed Congress to see the materials

> As of Wednesday, 1,135 prisoners—almost a third of San Quentin’s incarcerated population—have active COVID-19 infections. At least one prisoner has died.

I've noticed a recent jump in #MeToo-esque news coming out of the esports and gaming communities.

> Early in his term, Trump's briefers discovered that when his oral briefing included intelligence related to Russia's malign activities against the United States, including evidence of its interference in US politics, Trump would often blow up at them, demanding to know why they kept focusing on Russia and often questioning the intelligence itself, multiple former administration officials said.
> "The President has created an environment that dissuades, if not prohibits, the mentioning of any intelligence that isn't favorable to Russia," a former senior member of Trump's national security staff told me.
Such a fucking traitor. I really hope he gets what's coming to him

@BradC The only way that'll happen is if he loses this election.

@Frank Yep. Minimum first step

And then hope Biden doesn't pardon him in an attempt to move beyond the damage he's done.

2:28 PM
@Frank oh, God. Yeah, he better not do that.

Of course, if Trump loses and refuses to abdicate, it makes it that much easier to ensure he rots in jail for the rest of his life.

@BradC List of entities denying that Russia paid bounties on American troops: Putin, Trump, Taliban.
tfw not even the taliban wants to be on a list with you

Back to my previous post, I've been seeing several mentions of sexual abuse and misconduct among streamers, two Smash Bros pros recently came out with stories of being sexually abused by other prominent members of the community (one pro was definitely underage when abused by an event commentator).

It seems to be a pretty widespread thing

Definitely, but also it seems to be all coming out together.

Yeah, I assume they're being encouraged by each other

Sounds like previous #MeToo waves where once one person comes out, the others don't feel so alone and come forward as well.

2:56 PM
That's pretty dang powerful
And a sad reminder that no industry is inherently safer than the others

My osrs clan chat actually just migrated away from witwix's cc since he was named

Honestly, based on what little community reaction I've seen, it's heartening that I haven't seen much in the way of immediate disbelief. Mostly, it's stuff along the lines of "this is horrifying" and "I've been a (predator) fan for years but I can't stand for this".

and we were all like "well, this community is kind of its own thing now anyway"

Last week there were some such accusations in the Dota 2 talent scene, that's how I got alerted to this larger movement

I honestly expected worse reactions from the video gaming community.

2:59 PM
Oh yeah for sure

tbh, i'm not surprised that cards against humanity is involved
you really can't have something in that kind of field of humor for so long and not have something happen
@fredley In two weeks, "they found Ghislaine's body after she committed suicide when two cameras mysteriously went blank and the guards fell asleep".

3:17 PM
Definitely nice to see some of the right things being said, but I'm not sure I'm all that optimistic yet about real changes in gaming industry or culture.

In some ways this is a "can't this just all go away" reaction, not a "we've peered into the depths of our soul and seen the rot" reaction
Relatively decent NYTimes article about the current events:
Good interview with (original "Gamergate" victim) Brianna Wu about the latest developments, and her advice for women coming forward:

3:40 PM
Interesting alternate perspective on the Russian bounty thing:

3:57 PM
@Yuuki and soon we'll have Putin come out and say "yeh? so what? you don't think China or Saudi Arabia also do it, because they do, everyone does it, probably even the US"

@Memor-X Or Trump will.
Remember "you think our country is so clean?" in response to O'Reilly throwing him the softball of "Putin is a killer"?

@BradC Cain was at the Trump rally in Tulsa
The timing looks like he could have caught it there

11:42 PM
@MadScientist well he would have signed the waiver to not sue the government then
