*posts lies, Twitter adds links as apart of debate*
Trump: CENSORSHIP!

> MAIL-IN VOTING WILL LEAD TO MASSIVE FRAUD AND ABUSE. IT WILL ALSO LEAD TO THE END OF OUR GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY. WE CAN NEVER LET THIS TRAGEDY BEFALL OUR NATION. BIG MAIL-IN VICTORY IN TEXAS COURT TODAY. CONGRATS!!!

If You Say You Can’t Breathe, You’re Breathing’: Mississippi Mayor Defends Officers Involved in George Floyd’s Arrest lawandcrime.com/high-profile/…
> The officers involved in the horrific incident were fired on Wednesday, but mayor Hal Marx of Petal, Mississippi, took a different approach, defending their actions in a series of since-deleted tweets.
When you're behavior as a police officer is bad you're actually fired, then you know your doing with a real piece of shit. How could anyone defend that.
> “If you are talking about the incident in MN, I didn’t see anything unreasonable. If you can say you can’t breathe, you’re breathing. Most likely that man died of overdose or heart attack. Video doesn’t show his resistance that got him in that position. Police being crucified,” he tweeted.

To be clear as far as I know the only officers that lost their jobs did so because of a 2016 ordinance requiring bystanding officers to step in

Somehow the National FOP, Ben Garrison, and checks notes President of Turkey Erdogan are now "Wow that cop shouldn't have done that" and as a reminder you don't have to hand it to them but also the simulation might be crashing
Not entirely sure what the game here is

Ben Garrison has been kind of incoherent for 250 years

2 hours later…
4:34 AM
Burning buildings down is going to hurt the people who own them, the people who work there, and others in the area. There need to be a ton of changes made but rioting is going to hurt a lot of people, none of whom have any blame for police brutality.
And it’ll make it easier for the media to frame this not as people who are very angry about a huge systemic travesty but as just a bunch of people burning buildings down

5:16 AM
Fuck
Trump just tweeted a tweet ending with:

2 hours later…
6:54 AM
@Stormblessed Target, headquartered in Minneapolis, funds Minneapolis PD, and the particular store in question is the testing ground for loss prevention and surveillance tactics
(not by virtue of they pay city tax no they give the department extra money I guess so they can help test loss prevention stuff?)

they are also a large corporation with commercial property insurance they're going to be ok

7:23 AM
@Stormblessed This tweet just got marked by Twitter that it breaks the rules, but is allowed to stay up because of public importance
Wonder how long it's going to take RDT to whinge about that

7:46 AM
ignore the tweet itself, the relevant part is the Twitter warning

@Nzall I was just about to post that here ;-)
He's not going to take that well

This is going to be so entertaining to watch

the content is hidden by default for me though
Did you click on view before making the screenshot?

@Nzall How is that tweet stamped 5:53am May 29?

@MadScientist it was a screenshot I found online
on Twditter

7:54 AM
ah, it's hidden in the timeline, not if you are on the actual tweet itself

@Jolenealaska it's local time for the person who screenshotted it, and they live in the UK

3 hours later…
10:31 AM
> Wow. Police in Minneapolis just arrested @OmarJimenez live on CNN. What is going on?? Our camera crew and Omar's producer also now being arrested.

10:43 AM
Arresting a black CNN reporter and team does not seem like the wisest choice of action at this moment
One very interesting aspect is that everyone is streaming live, reporters and random people. So we do get video evidence for a lot of what is happening, there will be much less fog of war than in previous times.

@MadScientist it is unconstitutional. 1st Amendment explicitly states the government can't interfere in, constrain or prosecute the press.

Just started watching CNN live, they're losing their shit, entirely justified

A CNN crew has been arrested while covering Minneapolis protests cnn.com/2020/05/29/us/minneapolis-cnn-crew-arrested/index.html
> Police said they were arrested because they were told to move and didn't.
USA NUMBER 1 WOOOOO
George Floyd’s killer? Not arrested. Reporters covering the story? Arrested.
Totally sane thing that happens within a totally sane non corrupt justice system.

It looks like this is one of the times my rule of "whatever is the dumbest possible thing that could happen will happen" is in play again

"Tell us where to move and we'll move"
"You're under arrest"
Oh okay, that makes sense
That's a new one for black people! Arrested while cooperating! WOOOO

@Wipqozn Came here to post this. This is crazy.

Craziest thing is a different reporter who was white didn't get arrested

@Nzall I, for one, am shocked. SHOCKED!
@Lazers2.0 I'm waiting to hear Trump's twitter response.
I'm sure it'll be something supporting the jailing of the press.
Trump signs executive order targeting social media companies twitter.com/i/events/1266119379831230465
> President Trump has signed an executive order relating to liability protection for online platforms. The move comes two days after Twitter appended a fact-checking link to two of his Tweets.
> "I'm signing an Executive Order to protect and uphold the free speech and rights of the American people. Currently, social media giants like Twitter receive an unprecedented liability shield based on the theory that they are a neutral platform, which they are not."
A black man was murdered by a cop, and there are riots destroying a city, and he's busy feuding with TWitter.
I think it's time we just put the US out of it's misery. Y'all had a good run. You'll be missed.
Speaking of which, I really hope these protests/riots don't stop until action actually happens. Just hold the whole damn city hostage. It's obvious nothing will change otherwise.

11:20 AM
Let's see, the white CNN reporter is now talking
let's see if they arrest him as well

11:32 AM
@Wipqozn it's going to get worse - 9news.com.au/world/…
> The tweets have since been hidden by Twitter with a notice that they incite violence and go against Twitter's rules about violence.
you know that he's going to post
> CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP CENSORSHIP

12:33 PM
> A black latino CNN reporter was arrested. A white CNN reporter was not.
> "Police may not prevent journalists from covering protests if the journalists are in a place where the public is allowed, and they are not disrupting or interfering with law enforcement. Simply being near a protest or other newsworthy event is not a crime," the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press states in its guide to covering protests.
> CNN journalist Josh Campbell is also on the ground in Minneapolis, not far from where CNN reporter Omar Jimenez and his team were arrested by officers early this morning. They have since been released.
> Campbell said he was "treated much differently." Here's what he told Berman:
"I was treated much differently than [CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez] was. I'm sitting here talking to the National Guard, talking to the police. They're asking politely to move here and there. A couple times I've moved closer than they would like. They asked politely to move back. They didn't pull out the handcuffs. Lot different here than what Omar experienced."
> The Minnesota State Patrol released this statement on Twitter: "In the course of clearing the streets and restoring order at Lake Street and Snelling Avenue, four people were arrested by State Patrol troopers, including three members of a CNN crew. The three were released once they were confirmed to be members of the media."
lol oh go fuck yourself
"Confirmed members of the media"
Yeah I'm sure it wasn't obvious that the guy with a camera crew and a mic was a news crew

They can't help but lie about this lol
Incredible
How many other people did you guys arrest for not doing anything
Because it definitely wasn't just CNN

@Nzall wow has this ever happened, CNN getting arrested?
@Nzall I'm seeing supposedly the white house tweeted it now???

@Stormblessed tbh the national guard would probably handle this better than the police
They are less militarized, aren't they?

12:48 PM
@Wipqozn not sure, I don't get the big deal about them
I think they're just better trained police who get sent out when things are really bad

I think they're technically part of the military, but they're just allowed to operate on homeland soil.
Canada doesn't have them, since our military is just allowed to operate on Canadian soil.

yeah I think that's true

@Stormblessed So essentially, because Trump got slapped for violating the rules, they decided to... Violate the rules on an official account?

Speaking of the Canadian military, they've recently called out Ontario for their shitty nursing homes

@Nzall yes

12:51 PM
Military report reveals what sector has long known: Ontario's nursing homes are in trouble cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/…
> The CAF report outlines instances in which members spotted equipment used on both infected and non-infected patients without being disinfected, as well as rotten food, cockroach infestations and a startling disregard for basic cleanliness.
> There are many signs the provincial government knew, or should have known, what's happening inside these homes, but it took military intervention to bring the details to light.
> However, several groups pointed out that problems inside long-term care homes have long gone unaddressed, despite pleas to the province.
Thanks Military, for holding the province accountable, I guess lol
> Stewart pointed to the province's decision to eliminate rules requiring full background checks for new hires and allowing for inspections to be conducted by telephone as part of "a recipe for disaster." The union also said it called for a public inquiry and criminal investigations in long-term care homes as early as May 5.

Additionally to what I said above about the actual destruction of businesses, the image of Minneapolis after these riots is going to be a lot worse for business. The economy, which is already very bad under Covid, will take a lot longer to come back there now, I'm sure.
the riots will have a lot more effects than just on Target, but change really does need to happen
oh did anyone here mention where the phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" Trump tweeted is from?
> Headley’s stop & frisk policy was a disaster.

2 months after he announced the policy, 2 patrolmen strip-searched Robert Owens, a teenager suspected of carrying a concealed knife into a pool hall. The cops then dangled Owens by his feet over a bridge above the Miami River.
> That incident, Headley’s policing & the treatment of Black residents by white shopkeepers and absentee landlords led to a 3-day riot in Miami in summer of 1968. By the conflict’s end, 3 people died at the hands of police, 18 were wounded, and 222 arrests were made.

1:10 PM
Jesus! apparently the fires and riots in Minneapolis were started by an undercover cop

@Nzall I wouldn't quite be sure of that yet based on one picture where you can only see his eyes

@Nzall if true then it's obvious what they are doing. trying to paint the original peaceful protests at the beginning as this riot to try and redirect public opinion

@Stormblessed The woman in the texts is the cop's ex wife who recognized her gas mask and gloves

@Nzall Which could be fake / lies
like don't get me wrong.I could 100% believe this
but people make shit up like this all the time to make the "other side" look bad
Oh, she just ID'd him from that photo
yeah who even knows. I wouldn't be surprised, though. Just too early to start the witch hunt IMO.
Never forget the the time that REddit ID'd the wrong boston bomber

@Wipqozn wait what

1:24 PM
mis-identifying suspects

@Wipqozn it genuinely wouldn't be the first time this has happened if true but yeah it's inconclusive at this point I'd say

1:47 PM
After reposting Trump's tweet from the White House account the White House tweet has now also been bannered by Twitter, lol

Honestly this is a wild conclusion to Meltdown May

But its not entirely clear they actually knew each other:
> Although the two overlapped working security on popular music nights within the last year, Santamaria can not say for certain they knew each other because there were often a couple dozen security guards, including off-duty officers.

On a completely non-related note, I picked up a free public domain riot medicine book that's pretty good riotmedicine.net/downloads
Certainly a unique skillset (though not that different from Wilderness First Response tbh)
the book describes it as a hybrid between combat and wilderness medicine

2:03 PM
Sunil Tripathi (August 14, 1990 – March or April 2013) was an American student who went missing on March 16, 2013. His disappearance received widespread media attention after he was wrongfully accused on social media as a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing. Tripathi had been missing for a month prior to the April 15, 2013, bombings. His body was found on April 23, after the actual bombing suspects had been officially identified and apprehended. == Disappearance == Sunil Tripathi, a Brown University undergraduate student, had gone missing on March 16, 2013, having suspended his studies due to...

I wasn't sure at first whether this was parody, or movie plot, or what. but its apparently real

@Unionhawk correction: the number is actually 18, and includes exactly 2 closed with discipline (both "letter of reprimand")

2:23 PM
RIP George

2:48 PM
@GnomeSlice who?

A man who was just murdered in police custody

@Unionhawk update: this was probably a violation of section 317 of the communications act (which gives the FCC authority to go after broadcasters that air PR as news)

@TimStone So landing gear extension failure, followed by dual engine failure caused by an impact I guess?

Yeah but they didn't report the gear failure and then were like "we are comfortable now" which ???

The gear bit should have been easy to resolve, the airbus has a little hand crank that disconnects the gear from the hydraulic system
allowing the gear to just fall down into downlocked

Yeah, so hopefully not a case of suicidal pilot, but urghh

What I don't understand is how do you touch engines on the ground without also essentially just doing a belly landing at that point
ah too steep and too fast
ok, then I don't understand how you do that without crashing immediately then instead of going around
also holy shit there are so many like, urban legend tear gas treatments on the timeline right now
please I'm begging you do not try to perform an eyewash with lemon juice use clean water only

3:34 PM
That's painful to even think about

@TimStone There's a whole section on urban legend treatments in this book too it's wild
Baby shampoo, milk, oils, onion, vinegar, citrus, peroxide, lidocane, liquid antacid,
the only one of those that even kind of works is the last one but there are risks (there is a footnote about how some people swear by this and are going to do it anyway, so if you do then the only ingredients should be magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, and magnesium-aluminum hydroxide. no colors no flavors)
> Like tear gas, vinegar is a lachrymator. Vinegar vapor irritates the eyes, and prolonged inhalation will irritate the lungs

1 hour later…
4:44 PM
Huzzah!
> In an interview Friday, Northwood [long term care facility] CEO Janet Simm said it was the first day "in a number of weeks" the facility had no new cases to report.
Even more good news.

@fredley without Hellfire missiles, I hope?

@MadScientist 🤷‍♂️

Chauvin’s been arrested
he wasn’t arrested for four days, during which there were huge protests and riots

@MadScientist The info sheets don't list any munitions as payloads, so probably not question mark?
But it does list a laser designator...

5:30 PM
@Stormblessed Guess protests work then

5:48 PM
@Stormblessed Article: cbc.ca/news/world/…

@MadScientist appears to be a CBP drone rather than a USAF drone
yeah callsign CBP104

I mean

NOTABLY

We should probably check to make sure CBP hasn't been given hellfire missiles

these aircraft do not typically fly with transponder on
thus keeping them off civilian radar
this one was on radar, likely intentionally so
(they were not inside the minneapolis class B airspace so that's not a factor)
oh cool international airports count as a border for the purposes of "can CBP be here" nice
currently considering the implications of a predator drone appearing on ATC radar

6:09 PM
Did any candidates this cycle have unique websites?

"Delta 2237, traffic 11 o'clock, customs and border patrol predator drone report in sight"

The basic design of Biden’s and Sanders’ and Warren’s is very similar
Chauvin charged with 3rd degree murder and manslaughter
I’m not a lawyer but I’m pretty sure that 3rd is a lot less than what he did to Floyd

let's see in MN...
load please...
> whoever, without intent to effect the death of any person, causes the death of another by perpetrating an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life, is guilty of murder in the third degree
second is... with intent but without premeditation, or without intent while committing another felony, or without intent while intentionally inflicting bodily harm

Damn it @Unionhawk. You edited instead of posted. TUMBLEWEED RUINED.
@Unionhawk but yeah, it's probably third then. Like even if it's not (I wouldn't be surprised if he meant to do it), they probably don't think they can prove intent.
Although then again, I feel like "He stepped on his throat until he died" is proof of intent... hmmm..

"without regard for human life" is a shoe in, "with intent to cause bodily harm" is less so
to be clear he had intent to cause bodily harm
but proving that would be hard

6:24 PM
Does "intention" have a specific legal definition?

Not really any more so than just the dictionary
> A determination to perform a particular act or to act in a particular manner for a specific reason; an aim or design; a resolution to use a certain means to reach an end.

I don’t think you can kneel on a handcuffed man’s neck without intending to cause bodily harm

Like, if you don't stop applying deadly force to someone if they say they're dying, i'd consider that intentionally causing bodily harm

@Nzall Yeah that too

The more common wording for third here would be that third is a recklessness standard while second is an intent standard
he's going to get up there like "I just wanted to arrest the guy sorry"
(which is still intent to cause bodily harm but that's another issue)
negligence, recklessness, intent, premeditation
each an increasing level of "how on purpose did you do the thing"
Normally, professionals have additional "standard of care" considerations, but that uh, applies in reverse for the police if anything
thanks qualified immunity lol
actually I guess it applies normally but since the test is "would a reasonable individual in a similar position find the conduct to be reasonable",

6:40 PM
Yeah, the problem isn't that he didn't do anything wrong. The problem is that our legal system doesn't allow him to be prosecuted even if he did.

I think third is likely the right call here
Second would be pretty substantially harder to prove, third the whole case can be "take a look at this tape"

If I were in the business of lawmaking I'd probably make a whole new set of statutes about killings by police

That's what's so frustrating about each successive protest; even if there is some ultimatle acknowledgement about the injustice of a specific victim of police violence; the next step is never taken: (what laws do we need to change, on local/state/federal levels, to make this easier to prosecute)
@Stormblessed Yep, bingo

@Unionhawk Since we live in hell, what's the qualified immunity status on "If you choke someone they can die" since the sleeper hold is in their permitted tactics?

I'm sure there are some rules but they aren't applied very well if you look at many (most, probably) of the awful high-profile cases like this

6:44 PM
@TimStone I mean I guess we're going to find out
They did get that guy in chicago on second degree and 16 counts of aggravated battery with firearm
and shooting people is allowed
they didn't get rahm emanuel on whatever crime "attempting to cover up a murder" is in that case though so

The President is apparently getting frothy about CHINA at the moment
Oh, he acknowledged Hong Kong checks calendar quite a bit too late, but
Ah now he diverged straight into "China controls WHO"

yeah how can a government get away with suppressing protest like that
looks directly at camera

Just an incredibly dumb man
Oh we're pulling all funding from WHO to uhh, punish China? I guess?
> The internet activity that Kemp’s staff described as hacking attempts was actually scans by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that the secretary of state’s office had agreed to, according to the GBI
lol I hate that being this dumb is somehow effective
Look the only way to be sure is to kill VC and private equity, I'm sorry I don't make the rules, do it Mr. President

are we about to put sanctions on china

We're pulling special arrangements for dealing in Hong Kong, at least
Now he ran away

6:59 PM
the coward isn't taking questions

:|

I’m hearing that Trump didn’t mention George Floyd at the press conference today at all?

Look if we're getting polio back the least it could do would be to finish the job and no I will not be taking questions on this
@Stormblessed No, but I also agree with the take that he would not have improved anything either with whatever dribbled out, so you know, kind of a wash

@TimStone I guess that’s true but still

@TimStone why would they do this a day before the crewed launch?

🤷‍♂️ A reasonable question

I mean it doesn't affect this at all and they have nothing in common, but that's something the media doesn't tend to understand

Yeah, it's hard to emotionally separate them even if logically they're unlinked

it looks a bit more like there was a fuel leak that ignited, not the rocket itself blowing up

7:14 PM
Yeah, I think they were discussing something related right before it went boom

it was leaking, not sure if that position is where they fuel it and some external piping is responsible or if the fuel tank in the rocket burst there
The timing with the "if this was methane, the stack would have ignited this" was really perfect

Can't believe we just got trolled by Yahoo Sports

I just want everyone to start calling the horse "Nadal" and the other Nadal as "Human Nadal"

lol @ Ajit Pai being like "Hmm Twitter do these posts by Supreme Leader Khamenei violate your rules?? CHECKMATE", just use the report button buddy

7:53 PM
I like that @WhiteHouse blacked out the @
like we can clearly see who that is

8:05 PM
Nifty, provided these results hold up we may finally know the precise mechanism for how general anesthetics work
(there were well-considered explanations before but it was unclear which specifically was correct)

8:26 PM
@TimStone Got a source for that?
Because I can't find any article about it

3 hours later…
11:26 PM
White House is on lockdown as protestors near, sounds like Secret Service may have injured someone who hopped a construction fence

Tim
11:55 PM
Are cops' shoes made and sold only for cops? Their shoes don't look like shoes that are suitable for running and for fighting, do they?
Can non cop people wear their shoes? Are their shoes inexpensive, good quality, good for multi purposes (office, exercising, ...)

This is insane and dangerous from a state rep
