@TimStone i was listening to the ABC World News last night and they were talking about Trump still pushing that and played a clip of him saying "What do you have to loose?"
aside from the obvious, there is one other thing that i think people are forgetting that happened a long time ago when an untested drug was pushed
> The thalidomide disaster is one of the darkest episodes in pharmaceutical research history. The drug was marketed as a mild sleeping pill safe even for pregnant women. However, it caused thousands of babies worldwide to be born with malformed limbs. The damage was revealed in 1962.

my god seeing clips of Trump talking about that drug on the Philip DeFranco show are just worse. one he is more or less saying that we don't have time to test so just take it

lmao

> As a successful two-time biopharma entrepreneur, having purchased multiple companies, invented multiple new drug candidates, filed numerous INDs and clinical trial applications, I am one of the few executives experienced in ALL aspects of drug development from molecule creation and hypothesis generation, to preclinical assessments and clinical trial design/target engagement demonstration, and manufacturing/synthesis and global logistics and deployment of medicines.

Martin Shkreli (; born March 17, 1983) is an American former hedge fund manager, and convicted felon. He was the co-founder of the hedge funds Elea Capital, MSMB Capital Management, and MSMB Healthcare; co-founder and former chief executive officer (CEO) of the biotechnology firm Retrophin; and founder and former CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. Shkreli is the former CEO of start-up software company Gödel Systems, which he founded in August 2016.In September 2015, Shkreli received widespread criticism when Turing obtained the manufacturing license for the antiparasitic drug Daraprim and raised its...
1. That opener
2. It's not clear he actually ever did anything remotely related to drug development except "Be the CEO"
So like
Okay bro

3:12 AM
> Shkreli received a bachelor's degree in business administration
oh yeah for sure dude

4:12 AM
nothing about the wu tang album?
ah, here it is
> In early 2016, Shkreli retained criminal defense attorney Benjamin Brafman to defend him.[106][107] Due to his notoriety and overwhelmingly negative public opinion, it was difficult to select an unbiased jury, with potential jurors stating "I'm aware of the defendant and I hate him", "he kind of looks like a dick", and "he disrespected the Wu Tang Clan"
Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is the seventh studio album by American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan. It was limited to a single copy sold in 2015, and is the most expensive individual album ever sold. The album was recorded in secret over six years. A single two-CD copy was pressed in 2014 and stored in a secured vault at the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco, then auctioned through auction house Paddle8 in 2015. The winning bidder was American convicted felon Martin Shkreli. A legal agreement with the purchaser stipulates that the album cannot be commercially exploited until 2103, although...
> The winning bidder was American convicted felon Martin Shkreli

@GodEmperorDune I remember something about Jeff Sessions having access to the only copy after Shkreli was convicted

5:15 AM
@GodEmperorDune ugh that is also literally 14 words and shares about half of them
> Waldman attended the University of Florida and was active in the student government's Unite Party. In 2012, she was involved in a scandal concerning the destruction of hundreds of copies of the school's newspaper after it endorsed an opposing student government candidate.

@MartinSleziak this must be getting Trump more paranoid knowing someone in Boris's position could catch it and get into some trouble

@Memor-X not enough to stop the silly press briefings

> “Fauci or the Jews” is trending because the Washington Post doesn’t use the Oxford comma & gosh Fred there’s a good illustration of why you should use the Oxford comma

The WaPo headline in question: Trump blew it — not the WHO, Fauci or the Jews washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/06/…
Frankly if Fauci starts a band called Fauci and the Jews I think we’d all buy their debut album

Tim
good day
Are you all software engineers who post news?

usually
though that's what this chatroom is for
If you want to discuss games, we got The Bridge as well

Tim
I dont play games
I want to discuss which directions in computer science and software engineering are good or promising

2:02 PM
@Tim That's cool, but not sure this is the room for that. Isn't there a computer science SE site?

@Tim Yeah, we're not the room for that. You should maybe look at some of the rooms for the software engineering SE (although no promises you'll find what you're looking for)

2:24 PM
@Stormblessed punctuation makes a difference, people. Also, that face-mask is not black, it's forest green
Also, it looks to be upside down

@MBraedley well actually with that same wording I don't see any way punctuation would change it

Insert a dash between face and mask. Then it's clear that the face-mask is black, and not a mask of black-face.

2:40 PM
I really don't understand why the US Supreme Court has jurisdiction over changing the date of a primary election

@Stormblessed Sounds like she performed the job exactly as her boss wanted

@Tim you might have luck in the Computer Science.SE Main Chatroom
> General discussion for cs.stackexchange.com

Tim
I have lost speech there

@Stormblessed "We need to practice social distancing, but Wisconsinites don't."

relatedly, I highly recommend the 5-4 podcast, a podcast about how much the supreme court sucks, available wherever fine podcasts are sold

Dear RBG, please don't die before the next Democrat president, or honestly, ever.

ginsburg and breyer should have both retired 10 years ago

> The 78-year-old Pell was serving a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty for abusing two choir boys at St Patrick’s Cathedral in the 1990s when he was Archbishop of Melbourne.

...

The court's judgement said there ought to have been reasonable doubt into whether the offending took place.

"While the Court of Appeal majority assessed the evidence of the opportunity witnesses as leaving open the possibility that the complainant's account was correct, their Honours' analysis failed to engage with the question of whether there remained a reasonable possibility that the offending
admittedly i haven't seen all the evidence but from what i kept hearing today the "reasonable doubt" would come from how Pell had a routine of meeting people after mass which was at the same time that the abuse occurred

3:37 PM
@Memor-X routine doesn't actually count as an alibi, right?

@Nzall no but i didn't see the trail so i have no idea how it was presented. i'd be curious if anyone who wasn't a person of faith was called on to testify that he did follow this routine
because i sure as hell wouldn't take Pell's word alone and you can imagine all his defenders in the church would say he followed it even if they didn't see it that day
though the bigger issue would be finding a non-biased wittiness who would remember from like 30 years ago

> I still can't figure out why anyone thought "fly to Guam just to ream out the skipper and blame the crew for scaring the locals in Guam and then get in a pissing match with one of Teddy Roosevelt's descendents" was a good plan for tamping down a controversy.

@Nzall incompetence can explain a lot of weird actions

I honestly don't even understand what the point in keeping up the charade is when no one is going to stop you anyway

8:54 PM
the 2020 equivalent of drinking flint water or fracking fluid

9:45 PM
why am I watching this press conference

Narrator: It was not, in fact, a monster we were fighting, but a virus. A monster would be easy to kill
I see we're just diving straight into the sociopathy today

so you're now waging medical war?

We're waging war on reality a medical war doesn't seem that much of a stretch

10:02 PM
He's just blatantly rewriting history

10:12 PM
the answers are just a trainwreck right now, as usual
