1:14 AM
@Jolenealaska wow it would be such a great idea to just let this run its course and do literally nothing, that guy was 100% correct

2:01 AM
@TimStone arrogant guys keep accepting interview requests from Isaac Choitner challenge 2020
with all due respect sir, everything you wrote in this piece was wrong. Follow-up question: why did you write it
"wow that sounds really smart and cool [I spoke to an expert who said that it wasn't actually] Yeah I agree"

10 hours later…
12:06 PM
@Wipqozn The health care workers are not the ones making that policy

Use this one weird trick to get out of a lifetime prison sentence

The ultimate life (sentence) hack

After reading the article I think the coincidence was "Have an advocate on your behalf also happen to be married to one of your jurors", but maybe I missed it

12:45 PM
It helps for it to not have been reasonable to have been sentenced to life in the first place too, probably
Heh

1:22 PM
I don't know, I think we'd still better get a crack team of reporters on this
I'm going to be honest, I was floored yesterday when he said we'd stay closed until at least the 30th. I thought for sure he was going to fuck that one up
I guess someone told him a few million dead old people (Republicans) would be bad for reelection

Yeah the optics of literal bodies in fridge trucks is probably not ideal even if he tries to spin it

He actually seemed to show the tiniest bit of actual human emotion when talking about that.
Not sure if they updated his programming or what

I dislike Trump a lot but I'm kind of sick in the press briefings of the "gotcha" questions from reporters, because they just waste time.
"Mr. President, can you promise every American who needs a ventilator will get one?"
Of course he fucking can't

Why can't he?

1:34 PM
My bad, he can totally promise it
You're right, I'm surprised he hasn't

Money machine go brrr ventilators get made

One of the replies was “Oh boy, wait until he learns about who our enemy was in the revolutionary war.”

It's not really asking like "Oh what if we don't get one for this one person in time" but "The government declined to spend money getting ventilators sooo ??"
I think the problem is that they're not asking the questions directly enough because doing so would be pointing out he's an asshole
And they should get past that
And maybe he'll tone it back a bit if he can't get away with it. Or maybe he'll go harder and throw the podium
Either way

That would be neat to watch
I feel bad when Dr Fauci has to stand on tiptoes to be seen over the podium

But yeah, I get the frustration, I just think it's more to do with the reporters asking as if the context is good faith, heh

1:38 PM
"Mr. President, can you tell us who told you that there will be more deaths as a result of the bad economy?"
"Can we get Dr. Fauci to speak to that?"

Nothing going on is an oopsie woopsie that Trump in particular is going to gently correct

NOPE, NOT GONNA CALL HIM UP HERE
Oh, hey, a new Last Week Tonight. Unexpected!

@Sterno This is almost a gotcha question but it might have been Jared instead of "No one" so tough call
The more rational thing in these circumstances would be to immediately ask the President what the hell he's talking about when he says it but no one does that
I guess because of "continued employment" or something, pssh
I'm still willing to give the first reporter that does a $5k cover because I want to see how he reacts

I mean I think it's the line the wall street journal has been on
Presupposing that we can't just help people directly (since then why would they want to go back to their shitty job that doesn't pay the bills)

2:19 PM
so the distancing is going to April 30 at least
I wonder how long after that it should continue

Looking forward to whatever day it was my kids finally go back to where all the other kids are, which just about guarantees that at some point in the coming months, we all get to roll the dice to see if we're the .01% (or whatever) of the younger people who get severely hit by this
Nat 1s on Saving Throws always blow

My kindergartener got on a Zoom this morning

@Stormblessed At least 4 weeks after the last reported new case.
(This can be somewhat regional too.)

2:35 PM
@TimStone zoom is still not approved in the local school district, which is ridiculous
the schools closed for two days before the long-term thing because they were training for it but it is still not legal to actually use
"I love bureaucracy!"

@Sterno I just can't imagine turning them away, and I suppose I'll never understand it, since our healthcare systems are just so drastically different.

Mark Kelly averages +7 in five polls against McSally
He's also raised about 8 million more than McSally
Jones is polling down by a lot :-/

Oh man I wonder how Amy McGrath is doing probably badly
love to be the "mitch mcconnell doesn't support donald trump enough" candidate
and at the same time the "mitch works for freakin RUSSIA" candidate

3:01 PM
@Unionhawk there's no other way to have any chance of winning Kentucky, unfortunately.
actually I revise that, Beshear is quite a bit more liberal. But this race will have way more money on McConnell's side than Bevin did.

I mean sure nothing matters let's just run Matt Bevin for senate why not
Ok bad example everyone hates that guy lol
but I mean

Trump got almost twice as many votes as Clinton there so I think that strongly specifically opposing him is too untenable. Her saying "McConnell is stopping Trump from lowering drug prices" is bullshit but replacing McConnell with literally anyone else is fine with me

Wow, immediately cancelling that tornado, rude

why is there no jeb wins - kentucky governor edition
for me to have for a lazy "jeb bush wins kentucky senate"

3:41 PM
While not actually doing much for healthcare 🤔 I think this rule might be a scam

@Wipqozn It's not much different than a grocery store denying groceries to someone with no money, from the cashier perspective
Give out free groceries, you're gonna get fired

I wonder if the thing in 2016 with every state choosing the same party for senate and president will be true this year
Or if for example Arizona’s supporters of Kelly support Trump

> During Monday's vote, he said: "When this emergency ends, we will give back all powers, without exception."
This is the plot of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones! We all know how that ended!
> Palpatine: It is with great reluctance that I have agreed to this calling. I love democracy. I love the Republic. Once this crisis has abated, I will lay down the powers you have given me!

4:01 PM

4:56 PM
First case of community spread in Nova Scotia confirmed cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/…

I think this is the most optimistic set of projects I've seen yet for the US: covid19.healthdata.org/projections

@Wipqozn They don't say whether this is the St. Patrick's dance case or not.

@MBraedley I'm assuming it was.
Or somehow connected to it, at least.

But the fact that we only have one community spread case just goes to show the social distancing and self isolation measures that were put in place have been mostly working.

5:13 PM
Pretty much. Some folks are still ignoring them, though.
I think a lot of people don't realize the main reason we're doing this is to slow the spread, so the healthcare system can actually handle it.

it always confuses me when there is news about "Washington" and they don't specify DC

5:59 PM
.

Ave
6:44 PM
Turkey just hit 10k COVID-19 cases.

@Ave they're not testing much from the bit that I've read

Ave
@MadScientist 11k tests today
not nearly enough

1 hour later…
8:07 PM
Alright it was bad enough the writers of reality keep reintroducing old characters, but reusing character models is just plain lazy

8:18 PM
Uhhh but the mortgages were okay?
Anyway I'm glad at the end of 90 days the money tree will have sprouted for those people unable to just pay now
I think it's certainly a more complicated legal issue than just saying "You don't have to pay", but "90 days gl" is probably not the solution there

As we all know, people will be getting back pay for not having a job this whole time, so in 90 days they'll be able to pay 3 months back rent
it's ok
I also like all the cities doing stuff like "up to 2,000 people will get assistance"
chicago, famously a city of 2,000 people

@TimStone the proper way would be a real social security net, which affects far more than just paying rent. But that's probabyl quite far away in the US

@Unionhawk Whomst amongst us doesn't like to win the lottery
reporter asks about those that don't win That's all the time we have folks

gee bill how come your mom lets you have two checks for $1,200 etc
I wish the governor the best of luck in his presidential election
I hope that goes great

I really hope that our social security net can handle this crisis, I don't think it has ever been tested anywhere close to the degree it likely will be in the next months

8:43 PM
@MadScientist the one here didn’t even exist until the depression...
And Medicare wasn’t until a long time after that
So there’s not really been much like this in the US since the current systems got to their current state

A particularly relevant part of our social security is the "Kurzarbeitergeld". Companies that would have to otherwise lay off employees can apply for this and the employees that are not working or only working part time due to a crisis get 60% of the missing income from the government

9:29 PM
"surgical and medical and hospital things"
Trump really has the best words

The My Pillow guy is doing a "come to Jesus" speech in the briefing.

@Jolenealaska I mute large parts of these, I just can't take all the ass-kissing by random CEOs and other people he brings there
I'm mostly interested in the Q&A, for real answers by Fauci and to keep up with whatever Trump messes up during them
The information density of these briefings is terrible, even if you ignore that half of what they announce there doesn't even happen in the end

I keep thinking of that Twilight Zone where the kid has the power to make everyone disappear, so everyone has to please him at all moments.
When Dr Birx did it so blatantly, I wanted to cry.

@Jolenealaska the only one that strikes the balance is Fauci. He tries very hard to seem like he's never contradicting Tump, but is not afraid of actually contradicting him in subtance only minutes later

9:54 PM
fuck, I didn't mute for the OANN question

He has forgotten the question.
No mention of abortion in his "answer"

It was designed as a deeply partisan softball, and he failed to use it
I think the predictions of deaths in case nothing is done actually got through to him

This is it
He's kept it together until now
He is acting almost human

I think they actually managed to scare him

That didn't last long

10:03 PM
He's still a moron, but at least he won't rescind the measures just now
And we're back to insulting reporters

Mexico agrees these days about borders.
What's the PBS reporter's name? The one he always calls "nasty"?
She's big, she's brown, and she's a she. Damn but that gets under his skin.
I wonder if it gets to her.
Yamiche.
This is starting to feel a bit ritualistic. -msnbc

10:28 PM
I wasn't following along but I understand the MyPillow guy is somehow involved

Yeah, he did a whole come to Jesus thing. And his manufacturing plants are making something. I tuned in after he talked about that.
I don't know what he's manufacturing.

> "Well, remember in Singapore, they took the President's guidelines and they executed them very early because they could see China next door…

> "So very few people became infected in Singapore."
Someone tell Dr Brix that Singapore is five hours from China by plane
And those guidelines were not the President's

If MSNBC is predicting correctly, wearing masks or bandanas is about to become almost expected.
And maybe required.
I bought these last year. I still have 6 unopened.

11:14 PM
@PrivatePansy and also you don't need to be next door to china to see COVID-19 coming out
