What

Maintain your lifts better, Vail Resorts
"the seat isn't down" also seems like a good "oh shit, oh fuck, immediately press "normal stop"" but, idk
Like I literally don't know how you 1) don't notice that right away, immediately, or 2) don't take care of that in opening cycles, but maybe this lift has a dumb "the seats fold up on the downhill cycle so they don't get snow on them during operation!" feature (I've only seen folded seats on actively closed lifts)

@Unionhawk (also now I'm curious about what the difference between normal stop and emergency shutdown is, maybe emergency shutdown is for mechanical failures?)

I'm just not 100% on the mechanics of them having not noticed the gap, fallen through the gap, and the chair being so far off that there was sufficient height and distance from station for this to all transpire with this outcome?
One hell of a series of events

4:31 PM
Normally that kind of thing is taken care of as the lift opens so idk how it didn't here

1 hour later…
5:34 PM
I’m not sure if that is an actual warning they need or a joke

@Elva Libertarians are an odd bunch.

7:16 PM
I suppose that (and this) sounds a bit reductive, but my understanding of their philosophy boils down to "all government action is authoritarian in nature" and "'government' excludes corporations and industry".

7:27 PM
right wing libertarianism is just incoherent

7:52 PM
As far as I understand, the main incoherency is the definition of "government", which is a pretty fundamental axiom to have be incoherent.

We read an Emma Goldman in this vein a couple months ago
It was very sloganizing, which was ok, then she went in on like "we see that Illinois has strict child labor laws, but has the most child labor" which, I think you've just concluded that companies will break the law not that there's a correlation

8:43 PM
I mean, that sounds a lot like "we've changed the criteria for what counts as 'sexual assault' and reports of sexual assault cases have skyrocketed".

oh wait I see what you're saying
I mean, yeah possibly, either way the conclusion of "the law is fake and always unjust" is only half right
(it is fake)

9:42 PM

That's like the takes like "if people get free healthcare they'll abuse it"
like there's people walking in like "one knee replacement please" casually

but also, so what if people hoard tampons? wouldn't that drive up sales? i thought we were all about supporting business
