reading the article it seems pornhub does have a section for closed captions so it's more that the "porn seeker" in question wanted subtitles on the videos they wanted

I didn't realise they made a show out of the NYT endorsement and now I seriously want off this ride

4:03 AM
What a cursed timeline we live in, NYT editorial board somehow picking both Warren and Klobuchar

> The proposal, which would create a six-mile long barrier of man-made islands with retractable gates, is expensive, but not $200 billion like Trump claims in his tweet. The Corps estimates that the barrier would cost $119 billion and 25 years to build.
someone is just pissy that the money isn't going to his own wall which i don't think has even been costed properly yet

> The state of emergency in St. John's continued Monday for a fourth day, with overnight blizzard conditions complicating efforts to deal with unprecedented weather.
> With 76.2 centimetres in the storm that started on Friday and finished Saturday morning in a record-smashing snowfall, St. John's International Airport now has about 90 cm over the last few days, said Environment Canada meteorologist Rob Carroll.
> Some of the top priorities of the troops are to clear roads, attend to elderly and sick residents and ensure that people who need medical care get to hospitals and clinics.
> They're armed with shovels and snowblowers to dig out people still stuck inside their homes, but the city says help is limited to vulnerable populations.

Wild. They're still in a state of emergency. Luckily power has been restored to all but 29 customers.

If I were the FBI I would simply not do the MLK tweets every year

@TimStone I feel like so many PR situations would not exist if people would follow this guideline.
"how about maybe i just don't do that thing?"

Never tweet nods

honestly couldn't hurt
i can't imagine a prospective fbi agent interviewing with "i was on the fence between you guys and the cia, but i saw your lit af tweets roasting wendy's"

The head of Chinese government expert team has confirmed human-to-human transmission of new coronavirus, The Associated Press reports, citing state media. cbc.ca/news/health/thailand-china-coronavirus-1.5432108

:| Wuhan's not too far from my hometown.

4:58 PM
@Yuuki So, basically, it's all your fault. GOT IT. Your jokes have become a virus.
But also, by "hometown" do you just mean that's where your parents are from, or were you actually born in China? I always thought you were born in the US.

Born in China but I immigrated when I was like a year old.

ah okay, that makes sense then.

So I'm technically a first-generation immigrant but for all other temporary housing and marine mammalian issues, I'm second-generation.

Yeah, I was just about to ask how all that worked.

Well, I got my citizenship a few years back so it's a bit moot.
But before then, I was a Chinese citizen with a permanent residency card.

5:02 PM
yeah I was just about to ask

Traveling was interesting because I didn't really need a visa to visit my family and I could just show my driver's license when flying US domestic.
Now I have to go to the consulate for a visa if I want to go to China.

Oh, can you not have dual citizenship with China and US?

China does not recognize dual citizenship with the US.
Actually, I don't think China recognizes dual citizenship period.

@Yuuki Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me. Iran is the same way. There's other places too, I'm sure.

5:18 PM
The US doesn't formally recognize dual citizenship either

5:28 PM
That armed pro gun rally has started twitter.com/Reuters/status/1219306849859596296?s=19
@TimStone Actually? I could've sworn you did.
> The United States does not formally recognize dual citizenship. However, it also has not taken any stand against it, either legally or politically. Typically, no American will forfeit his or her citizenship by undertaking the responsibilities of citizenship in another country.
oh okay

Yeah, we're just less picky about it, probably in some part due to the whole taxing international income thing

I mean, by that standard, China also has dual citizenship. If you were born in China and have hukou, you could technically lose your citizenship if you pursue a citizenship in a foreign country but because China does not have much in the way of record-sharing agreements with other countries, they likely wouldn't be able to find out that you got citizenship somewhere else.

5:43 PM
I think they will actually terminate your citizenship if they find out though right?
I don't think the US typically does that

@TimStone Yeah but the question is how they're going to find out.

Well if you carry your other passport by accident or necessity I guess :P

6:45 PM
@TimStone what went wrong?

They're just like "Oh that MLK, he was so cool and good" but the FBI did this so you know maybe just sit this one out

You also have to love the takes like "mlk would be a republican today" from people who would have absolutely called him a communist agitator when he was alive

1 hour later…
8:13 PM
@Unionhawk I'm honestly kinda interested on what grounds they would say MLK would be a Republican. I start at some shaky equivocation on "religion/Christianity == Republican" and I'm stuck.
because we all know that only republicans can be christian and everyone is either an atheist or a satanist, never mind that the large majority of democratic representatives are still christian

It might be the dinesh d'souza read on history

@Unionhawk "Read".

read, making stuff up, you know

dinesh d'souza, the real-life bad fanfiction writer

9:16 PM
@Yuuki according to this (2017 Congress) everyone was Christian except for 28 Jewish Democrats, 2 Jewish Republicans, 3 buddhists, 2 muslims, a Unitarian and one atheist
So the only even slightly reasonable-sounding argument that King would be a Republican is bullshit
Nice programming equals BTW ;P

Aren't Unitarians still Christian?
Like it's a pretty divergent sect, but isn't it still Christian?

> “Approximately 35 U.S. States use a form of performance-based funding over the last ten years. Many other countries around the world including the United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Norway, Denmark and Hong Kong, just to name a few.”

not sure you want to compare yourself to the us standards of education but okay buddy

"Hey, guys, you know that systems that is considered by anyone with any amount of expertise on subject to be absolutely terrible, and simply does nothing but set children that are already behind even further behind? Well let's do that!"

also "a form of performance-based funding" can have wildly different meanings

9:25 PM
@Yuuki Alberta is trying very hard to mimic all the bad parts of the US

@Wipqozn Looks like they're trying to stick an 'a' between the 'l' and 'b' and s/ert/am.

@Stormblessed nitpick, that article doesn't say Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is atheist, just that she has no religious affiliation. The two aren't equivalent, as any atheist (and many agnostics) will tell you.

Heck, she could have no religious affiliation and still be Christian, just with a really strong sense of separation between church and state.

9:49 PM
@MBraedley oh oops

In hindsight, I could be wrong on that. I'm not 100% on what exactly "religious affliation" means.

user15026
10:06 PM
Religious affiliation generally means do you consider your self a part of any religious thing

user15026
@Yuuki technically yes, but it has enough of its own ideas on how things go that generally its happier being its own thing

10:25 PM
@Ash So if you're not Germanic, you have no religious affiliation?

user15026
10:36 PM
Hm?

A thing was a governing assembly in early Germanic society, made up of the free people of the community presided over by lawspeakers. The word appears in Old Norse, Old English, and modern Icelandic as þing, in Middle English (as in modern English), Old Saxon, Old Dutch, and Old Frisian as thing, in German as Ding, and in modern Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Faroese, Gutnish, and Norn as ting, all from a reconstructed Proto-Germanic neuter *þingą; the word is the same as the more common English word thing, both having at their heart the basic meaning of "an assemblage, a coming together of parts...
