@BradC but i thought Europe was enacting the measures set by the deal to punish Iran for violating the terms of it?
@BradC *puts a $100 dollarydoo note on the table*
@BradC also having a feeling that he's trying to define what religion the government will support. can you see "Evangelicals for Trump" pushing for the right of Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist people to pray or whatever they equivalent is? doubt it
when someone in a religion says "Government must never stand between the people and God" it generally means their own god. wont care if Government stand in the way of other faiths so long as their own is benefited

user15026
Oh that sounds...awful

12:37 AM
@TimStone you was impeached in December. even those of us stuck in eternal 2016 still have a better grasp of time
or should i say the 18th of Decacaber (the 48th Month) of 2016

12:56 AM
@TimStone when i read "Matt Gaetz ... creating a sex game while he was he was still serving in the State House" last night i was thinking if it was talking about him making a nukige Visual Novel or porn game on Steam

lol no, no, it's actually much worse

2 hours later…
3:37 AM
@TimStone the start of it or the end?

2 hours later…
5:58 AM
> [Parnas] also said former associates did not defend him and were silent after he was arrested and indicted in October of last year on charges of violating campaign finance laws.

“I felt like my family left me,” he said. “Knowing everything about me, knowing that this was probably a hit job, they all just clammed up."
lol, that's not surprising given we saw Trump throw Michael Cohen under the bus

4 hours later…
10:06 AM
@Ash I always read that as "with the help of god"

2 hours later…
12:33 PM
This describes the event that lead to Tillerson's "fucking moron" comment

@TimStone guess that means they aren't auditing Trump, not that anyone believed his excuses for not releasing his tax returns

Alternatively it means trump is just poor

@Elva lol, yeh i didn't think that
@MadScientist that was a read

1:38 PM
> "You've been on the front lines of corporate price fixing. You've been on the front lines of our misadventures in foreign policy. You have direct experience of many of the things that make a lot of young people very angry about the way that this country is operating right now."
> "Whoa, whoa whoa. That's... I'm sorry. That's... *sips*"
> "So the proposition that I've been on the front lines of corporate price fixing is bullshit."
> "You worked for a company that was fixing bread prices."
> "Uh, no. I worked for a consulting company that had a client, that may have been involved in fixing or was apparently in a scandal."

Yeah we might need an analysis here but while he definitely wasn't responsible it seems kind of unlikely he had no inkling of it unless he was also just bad at his job?
But also lol
"No, no, I worked for McKinsey, the company that had its retreat recently down the road from Chinese Uyghur internment camps!" is uhhhh a defense, I guess

You know allegedly the client was bad I don't know
They may or may not have been artificially increasing the price of bread in canada who can say

"What's that got to do with the price of bread in Canada? A four part investigative report"
Astrologists did the worst, professionals were on par with cows, and the beauty bloggers won until the hosts showed their performance which crushed everyone because they did 20 different portfolios and only used the good one to illustrate survivor bias

1:58 PM
What were they testing?
Aah
Didn't want to click cause the CW and work but just scrolled down
They were doing testing on the stock market

2:22 PM
Ah yeah, sorry

@TimStone So what you're saying is I shouldn't be spending 2% in portfolio fees, and instead just get cows to pick my stock portfolio?

@MBraedley No, you should hire Belle Delphine to pick your stocks
10% gains over cows and pros

2:37 PM
Except survivor bias :p

I don't want to be one of the 95% that get only moderate gains, I want to be guaranteed to be the 5% that gets awesome returns.
@TimStone Oh, I misunderstood this. The presenters did the 20 portfolios, not the beauty bloggers as I had initially read it.

why would you leave this in the transcript
thank you

@Unionhawk ha, that's pretty funny. WHAT'S THAT? instead of "Oh, sorry, I'll mute my phone"
like someone changed his ringtone without him knowing or something
or like he's a senile old man who has no business being the next President of the United States
or something

@Unionhawk I mean it is hilarious
SHOCKED PIKACHU
As will Starr

@TimStone Ken Starr?? oh brother
which we all know to be true
> For the past three years, the Senate has been one of the main arenas in which it has become clear just how totally and completely Trump has taken over the Republican Party. He has not only vanquished doubters; he has dominated them. Skeptics have been purged. Senators have abased themselves again and again. Those who stood up to Trump inside his own party have been exiled, silenced, or flipped.

3:01 PM
@Unionhawk they at least filmed and published the whole Buttigieg one, so you could probably find video lol
Ugh you need Hulu to watch it
I have Hulu, but that's lame for people who don't
oh it's also not out yet
wow this is crappily distributed
Outside the US, it's only broadcast in Spain, Portugal, some Portuguese colonies, and Australia

@Unionhawk eh, I'm not sure that's all that fair of a criticism of Pete Buttigieg. He worked for a massive consulting company with a vast swath of projects and clients one of which (that Pete did NOT work on) was accused in a scandal hardly means that Pete was "on the front lines of corporate price fixing"

That's all I think of when I see KK

@Unionhawk what don't you like about the Times other than their idiot headlines and Bret?
@BradC yeah, but it was nice that because they are an editorial board they actually asked tough questions
They endorsed Clinton last time for the primary?
do they endorse republicans for primaries in years with an actual presidential race?
@Stormblessed yes

3:17 PM
@Stormblessed pretty much everything NYT Opinion posts, more or less
etc

my question is why the fuck they bothered to interview Deval Patrick
@Unionhawk yeah...that is pretty crappy
good reporting though

there was also the heavily annotated bernie transcript which was just distracting honestly (idk what they did to the others but if they had as many asides for them it also sucks)
like either the point didn't need to be reiterated, or you should have done it as a follow up question

The WaPo opinion section with their editorials written by the like three people on the right who supposedly don't like Trump (but really seem to be writing so liberals think that Republicans aren't all so bad) is meh
Like Jennifer Rubin wrote an article attacking John Bolton as a lunatic when he was announced as a Trump hiree but wrote one about how he was amazing just a year or two before
hmm do you think they weren't able/don't want to get Bloomberg or they just aren't done publishing all of them?

I don't think they're done but idk
it's been coming out over the course of the past week

> James Bennet, the editorial page editor, has recused himself from any involvement in the 2020 elections because his brother, Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, is running for the nomination.
?
he is still running? wtf
Oh: "Three candidates — Tulsi Gabbard, Michael Bloomberg and Julián Castro — were invited but declined."

3:43 PM
> So just like [the] guy in Tiananmen Square when he stood in front of the tank didn’t really quite know how he was going to beat the tank. . . . I understand running for president is a huge challenge but, you know, I’m ready for it.
You know John Delaney, h'es just like the guy in Tiananmen Square

so... Iran's statements immediately after the attack turned about to be closer to accurate than ours???

@Stormblessed uhh... i'm fairly certain the guy who stood in front of the tank didn't have any aspirations of "beating" the tank

America lied? :O How totally unsuspected and out of character!

@Yuuki Well, we also don't know if he even survived the day, right? We have just this one powerful snapshot moment
Looks like a lot of contradictory theories, but no confirmation:
Tank Man (also known as the Unknown Protester or Unknown Rebel) is the nickname of an unidentified Chinese man who stood in front of a column of tanks leaving Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989, the morning after the Chinese military had suppressed the Tiananmen Square protests by force. As the lead tank manoeuvered to pass by the man, he repeatedly shifted his position in order to obstruct the tank's attempted path around him. The incident was filmed and smuggled out to a worldwide audience. Internationally, it is considered one of the most iconic images of all time. Inside China, the image and...

3:59 PM
brave dude

Still fairly certain he had no delusions of "beating" the tank.
"oh yeah, i'll stand here and it'll crumble to pieces around my body"

Great first paragraph:
> We’ve all been there as a teenager. What starts as a nerdy afternoon building a fancy new gaming PC ends up with a stint in rehab after your parents assume those tiny syringes full of thermal paste mean you’re doing the drugs. Cooler Master is apparently tired of all the confusion, so it’s redesigned its thermal paste applicators to look less like drug paraphernalia.

now it looks like a vape
disclaimer: i have no idea what vapes look like

And coincidentally makes them easier to use
@Yuuki yeah it looks like what vapes seem to look like, if you know what I mean (and I don’t know what I mean)
> Mini Mike Bloomberg is spending a lot of money on False Advertising. I was the person who saved Pre-Existing Conditions in your Healthcare, you have it now, while at the same time winning the fight to rid you of the expensive, unfair and very unpopular Individual Mandate.....
Yes, trump totally saved those conditions in his bill

4:15 PM
Out of those three things, "very unpopular" is the only thing true about the individual mandate. And even then, that's because people don't understand how medical insurance works.
incidentally, "how medical insurance works" is really dumb and just rid of the whole thing already

@Yuuki TOO LATE. THAT'S PROOF ENOUGH OF YOUR GUILT. YOU'RE GOING TO TAX JAIL.

> Warren’s corporate tax plan, according to one memo the bank circulated, would “directly impact corporate earnings.” Her nine-point eligibility test for international trading partners—which requires a commitment to protect religious freedom and labor rights—“would disrupt global supply chains.” And her proposed 2 percent tax on personal wealth greater than $50 million “would likely crimp investment in the economy.”
Strongest endorsement they could give

they're going to go hard for biden, pete, bloomberg, or steyer, it's true

@Ash Sorry, that was just a bitter statement, I didn't actually think that was news to you

4:22 PM
@BradC The year is 3055 and a ragtag group of human resistance fighters struggle to survive against the onslaught of Immortal Cyborg Joe Biden and his legion of automated Wall Street trading bots.

@Unionhawk he apparently is doing "if you like your plan you can keep it" which wasn't true in 2010 and won't be true in any meaningful sense in 2022 or whatever

Their last hope? A dimensional tunneling device that will grant them access to Immortal Cyborg Joe Biden's greatest foe: alternate universe 'Diamond' Joe Biden and his indestructible Trans-Am.

also again nobody "likes" their plan, some people just don't have to interact with their plan it just sits in the background as a payroll deducted premium every 2 weeks or something

> Trump is not arbitrarily having his opponents arrested. He is doing something more subtle, but still extremely dangerous: using the Department of Justice to selectively hold his opponents to the most exacting levels of legal scrutiny that are not broadly applied. It doesn’t even matter that not every investigation brings charges, and the charges themselves probably won’t hold up in court. The time, expense, and reputational cost of the investigations will be damaging enough.
> The message Trump has sent to his bureaucracy is unmistakable. Political loyalists will be granted broad latitude, and displays of troublesome independence will be held to the strictest accountability. Fascism is not descending on Trump’s America, and the rule of law has not disappeared. But its slow disintegration has crossed a dangerous threshold.
Today, in totally normal political commentary:

4:43 PM
@BradC Is anyone reminded of Trump's tendency to sue people back in his pre-Presidential era? Bury them in legal fees so they can't talk about his various wrongdoings?

@TimStone "we're just here for the chicken nuggets and dollar menu hamburgers, sir"
> TSA apologizes after agent says 'giddyup' while pulling on a Native American woman's braids
:|

5:11 PM
Also for anyone keeping track at home Stack Exchange has lost its third CM

@TimStone Every day, the CM team gets smaller and smaller.
If we keep losing CMs at this rate, we'll eventually have a negative number of CMs.

user15026
@TimStone At least this was of his own volition, I guess?

Yeah, though since he gave notice I guess they wouldn't have had to fire him if they had wanted to, so probably not ideal, but I'm glad he's set

user15026
5:26 PM
nods thats my feeling as well, I'm glad he's not without work

@Yuuki What the fuck

@BradC what the fuck is that?
who the hell made that?
please tell me that's a parody...please...

@Stormblessed not sure. Found it on twitter here
no link or attribution, and I'm kind of afraid to start googling it on my work pc

Tweeted out by what apparently is an account making fun of these loons

5:43 PM
@Stormblessed Jeez, the "crisis actor" one. brutal

6:03 PM
@TimStone I guess "the beatings will continue until morale improves" strategy isn't working out for SO.

6:17 PM
Phew. Now I can feel good about voting for him again.
Lol, jk!

6:34 PM
@Stormblessed more like david dees nutz

@puzzlepiece87 wat
the earth is on fire but kids reading the wrong books is the issue

@GodEmperorDune anything to distract from the real problems

user15026
7:06 PM
@puzzlepiece87 "However, Baker says that the books wouldn’t be removed from the library, just put in a special section for dangerous books, a move that may actually make the books more popular." so...you won't take them out, so kids see they're there, but they can't have them? wtf

@Ash its extremely weird

7:57 PM
@puzzlepiece87 I'm not a 1st amendment absolutist, but this is still a bridge too far for me.

8:08 PM
@TimStone Your biting sarcasm about the big banks being the little folk brightened my day :)
@Ash Missouri! We're 40ish in every positive state metric!

@Ash For a state that would ban Harry Potter, they sure seem to want to make a Restricted Section a la Hogwarts.

user15026
8:22 PM
@Yuuki indeed.

user15026
@MBraedley I am not sure what you mean

@Ash Just guessing, took me a while to come to this interpretation: I'm guessing MBraedley would be okay with some books being banned but not via this method.
I was ??? for awhile.

oh yeah, it's been four years huh

8:55 PM
@Ash Forcing public libraries to ban books is unconstitutional, but I believe that there should be reasonable limits on the 1st amendment, but even this would be too much.
Basically I believe banning books in this fashion is and should be unconstitutional. Not being an absolutist gives me flexibility on the should be side.

1 hour later…
10:10 PM
I suspect the constitutionality is a little complicated here because the libraries are funded by the government. I'm not sure if conditionally withholding funding depending on whether the libraries ban the books would be in violation of the 1st amendment

10:24 PM
@murgatroid99 I think libraries being government institutions raises the bar for when they can do something like prevent certain people from checking out certain books
it doesn't lower it
A private institution that lends books has far more freedom in doing so
(maybe the library in a private religious school or something?)

I guess there are kind of two things here: whether the library can do that, and whether the government can compel the library to do that

10:44 PM
@murgatroid99 for a public library, I don't think there is any distinction
