@Memor-X Yes. Their drinking water is tainted with oil.
But a very short answer is their entire economy is based around a dying industry, oil. Due to a variety of reasons, some historical, but also just pure far-right lies and brainwashing, they also have a mad hate on for anyone suggesting 0.11111
My cat decided that message needed more numbers. Also it was ready to send.
but I was going to say they have a mad hate on for anyone suggesting they diversify their economy... largely due to far right lies.

2:00 AM
@GnomeSlice That's really cool

> The ruling Conservative Party rebranded its @CCHQPress account during the hour-long prime-time event, and began firing off real-time rebuttals to statements made by Mr Corbyn, before reverting to its usual name.
oh but it's all ok, they're verified

@GnomeSlice doesn't say what he died of

Don't think it really matters or is the public's business

it's just that 51 seems young

It is
I'm guessing some kind of illness

the benefits i've heard that it current has and how the upgrade wuld make the state closer to being 100% renewable energy sounds like something the rest of the country should be adopting

@GnomeSlice I'm not entirely sure how trustworthy that site is. I never heard of it and it has no Wikipedia page

11:47 AM
@Nzall Well based on how hard that video tries to defend Don Cherry, I'm going to assume it's a trash source.
Maybe the social said that, in which case fuck them too, but the wording of the article makes it sound like the took what the socail took out of context.
but I don't give enough of a shit about what the social thinks either to care enough to confirm one way or another what they think.
Yeah that's a super trash source. It's got an article attacking journalists reporting on Kenneys being,uh , horrible.
It's actually it's top story.

...one of their big contributors is Lindsay Shepherd which says all I need to know. Also, another one has this bio "Candice is the Executive Director of the True North as an organization that would promote sound immigration policy, Canadian interests and the rule of law." which sounds so very lovely and skirting around outright saying oh hey we hate immigrants

12:56 PM
@Ash @Wipqozn So the consensus here is that the site is right-wing propaganda?
@Ash yeah, I sort of had that impression

1:48 PM
> It is believed that 1.4 million Americans have top secret clearances.
huh that's higher than I would have expected but ok
chunk of CIA and military, current and retired, checks out

2:19 PM
@TimStone but it makes sense when you assume they actually use toy phones like children

@TimStone He doesn't want to go to jail for Trump

It's pretty crazy the closest Rudy Giuliani will have ever gotten to public transport is when he ends up under this bus

@TimStone It's going to be interesting to see if Trump will cut him loose. Chances are getting up there, but maybe some self preservation is preventing Trump from doing so.
Begs the question, though; is it blackmail or extortion to stop defending someone if they throw you to the wolves?

@BradC well Manafort never got a pardon, Stone probably wont, Sondland's proably worked out that Trump's promise of any pardon means nothing
@Frank another question, is a client protected under attorney/client privilege if said attorney was working for free?
last i heard Giuliani was not being paid for anything because of some divorce thing

@Memor-X Considering that Rudy's already asserting that to avoid answering questions about Trump, it's not something many people are going to test.

2:26 PM
@Frank I mean he's being investigated for other things already so things aren't looking too good for ol' Rudy here

@Memor-X I don't think payment is a major factor in that question about client-attorney privilege
More importantly would be: is Rudy doing crimes for Trump? Or, is he operating as a "Fixer" instead of as an actual attorney?

"Fixer" generally means doing crimes.
But knows enough about the law to lie to those that don't, to give himself plausible deniability.

@Frank Well, in this context I just meant it as a general "errand boy", which, depending on what he was being asked to do, wouldn't necessarily be covered by privilege, even if it wasn't criminal

2:30 PM
doh, they're almost to his opening statement, and I have a conf call starting in 1 minute... :(

@BradC Very true
This whole shadow policy thing is something the House is veeeeeery interested in.

Either Sondland leaked a false prepared statement or Nunes is about to be extremely surprised
Hahahahahahahah
Sondland's "I definitely didn't do a perjury" defense is that the Administration is obstructing both him and the committee by not providing the information that would help him remember
(it was in the statement linked above but he just definitely said it out loud on national TV)

2:48 PM
@Unionhawk what’s the source? That sounds too high

@Stormblessed wikipedia, citing washington post, though the link is dead

Keeping in mind that if you're ever close to this data even in a support capacity, you would need clearance

actually, the 1.4 comes from the economist and the link is alive

> The board is holding a formal review THIS afternoon. If you would like to make a public comment, you can do so by emailing upshur.info@clark.lib.wv.us.

4:17 PM
Rachel Notley kicked out of Alberta legislature for comment on election watchdog’s dismissal globalnews.ca/news/6190304/…
Once again never forget that Conservative are morally bankrupt

@TimStone Fox is on board with impeachment!?

I mean even more specifically Ken Starr, the Clinton impeachment report guy

4:43 PM
Not entirely sure how those points actually needed writing down but he sure sharpied the hell out of that notepad

5:06 PM

I mean Castor is now having Sondland reaffirm that the State Department is obstructing the investigation for some reason so it's Not Going Well for them at least

I paused for a work meeting and resumed, so I'm running about an hour behind, I'm still listening to the Dem's staff attorney

Got to end of the Dem's portion, should I just skip Nunes and GOP's questioning?
Anything worthwhile in there?

5:22 PM
In the sense of useful information or entertainment?

eh, he's asking all the same questions: "are you aware of these (debunked) conspiracy theories??"

Yeah
Castor mostly just seems to be making the case that the people not being allowed to testify need to testify
Which is an interesting defense strategy

Zoomed all the way up to live: is this the GOP staff lawyer? or back to the Dem staff lawyer?
Goldman, that's the dem staff lawyer

5:41 PM
@TimStone "It's not a quid pro quo because we didn't directly link our wants to our leverage!"

Rudy just also implied he has no attorney-client privilege about what he did there because he was just giving his own opinions that had nothing to do with Trump
So he can come in and plead the 5th, but otherwise 🤷‍♂️

@TimStone Pleading the fifth is just going to make him look more guilty.

@TimStone nah he's going to get some book deal now
about how idk, I knew the whole time that's why I left
a warning 2: actually it was me mike pompeo who wrote that op ed

lol

@TimStone is Fox allowed here?

Sure, Fox is ostensibly a news outlet even if they forego that to put Hannity-like programs on their TV channel and whatever
"Ah Reporter Person I see you are aware of too much news, checkmate"

I mean to be fair same

@Yuuki I actually thought this text was the news
I'VE BEEN FOOLED

user15026
6:36 PM
@TimStone So did I, I was super confused

8:40 PM
@Yuuki I suspect there's some context to this I'm missing, since I wasn't following this today

@Wipqozn tl;dr Sondland says there was "quid pro quo".

@Wipqozn Yep. Bad day of testimony for Trump and his GOP lackies supporters
wait, how do you do strikethrough in chat again? <s>strike</s>
nope
lets try this perhaps
nope

... Trump and his lackies supporters
ah, there it is. Thanks.
other highlights:
* Strong, explicit ties to Trump, Pence, and Pompeo. Says "everyone was in the loop"
* Attached email evidence of some of the above
* Said there was an explicit "quid pro quo", for the military aid, and the white house meeting
* Confirmed details about the (previously reported) call with Trump in the cafe
* Some of Schiff's questioning appeared to elicit testimony that does directly to the definition of bribery, which is explicitly mentioned in the constitution as a reason to impeach
GOP defense was, basically: "but what is a crime, anyway, man" (leans back and takes a huge toke)
(paraphrase)

waves cheerily to @Wipqozn's cat

8:56 PM
@TimStone It was mentioned earlier in the thread, but here is the clip of Ken Starr (of Clinton impeachment fame) saying on Fox news that it is now clear the president will be impeached for bribery:
Hey, remember our discussion of the abuse and misuse of the "isolation rooms" in Illinois schools yesterday?
(just a screenshot of a forthcoming article so far)

9:30 PM
@BradC not that it really matters, but it's spelled "lackeys". Lackies isn't a word in English, at least outside of the plural form of the Lackie surname

@Nzall Thanks. It was a last second substitution

chuckles Remember everyone's favourite coupon code app Honey?

@TimStone I can't really deduce it from the article, but will this have any impact on those of us who just want to keep using the app and don't want to be forced to switch to Paypal to use it?

Because I can't use Paypal anymore so that would be pretty not a good thing

It's unclear at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if it involved tighter integration between the services in the future, but we'll have to see to what extent

10:09 PM
@TimStone i only heard what he said from the other room but it looks like he read his noted verbatim
and it's in all caps which explains the yelling too
@TimStone the actions of an innocent man

Oh, he definitely did it, they just rigged the trial to give immunity to someone who then was like "Ah he definitely isn't a war criminal and you can't charge me lol"

> Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!
was that a Trump Tweet?

It was a Giuliani tweet that he deleted, but I think he posted something similar again a bit later

Trump: VETO!
Staffer: but you ca..
Trump: VETO! VETO! VETO! VETO!

@TimStone The resolution being condemning China?

10:21 PM
@Frank i think this is for tying trade with Hong Kong with it's independence
or something. i heard China wasn't happy with some trade motion

@TimStone ahhh, different thing from the sounds of it

So it would just be so incredibly dumb not to roll with it

@TimStone unless it hurts he chances of getting a deal with China
Jul 11 at 13:53, by Memor-X
> President Donald Trump told Xi Jinping that the US would mute its support for the anti-China protest movement in Hong Kong in exchange for re-opening US-China trade talks, according to a report by the Financial Times (FT).

The newspaper, citing several unnamed sources close to the talks, said that the agreement was made around the G20 summit in Japan last month.

Shortly after, the two countries announced that they would restart talks to end their ongoing trade war.

Yeah, but members of Congress already have to deal with all this impeachment stuff, having to walk back a unanimous consent vote because the President threw a fit would likely annoy a lot of them for putting them on the spot
lol Rudy no just stop buddy

lol, classic Biden

> I hope I made you proud out there and I hope I made it clear to the world why our campaign is so important
We'll see, I guess??

People mad at Sondland for marginally not letting the President do crimes are giving his hotels bad reviews on Yelp because we live in hell
"Not allowed to conduct child trafficking out of my suite, 1 star"

11:15 PM
@Nzall I've seen it reported nonstop in my local media
It's really annoying, I don't know why everybody cares so much about don cherry
his opinions are outdated, nobody wants to have that on their live TV show any more. This other commentor is pretty terrible as well
Hockey is jumping on the shitty politics circus bandwagon I guess
