generally i don't care but i thought i'd look him up on Wikipedia
> Speaking at an inauguration rally for Donald Trump in January 2017 Voight said, "God answered all our prayers" by granting Trump the White House. In May 2019, Voight released a short two-part video on Twitter supporting President Trump's policies, and calling him "the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln".
not sure if i'm just being really cynical but has all Trump's Medal Awards been to those who praise him?

well 2 were found guilty, one wasn't
but the message is that Military Moral is boosted when you know that the president has you back when you commit war crimes

6 hours later…
10:48 AM
@Memor-X to quote the title of the article I read about it "Confirmed: We are the baddies"
Though it wasn't on the GOP lawmaker saying that but a bigger article on the... person that did the warcrimes: nytimes.com/2019/04/23/us/navy-seals-crimes-of-war.html

2 hours later…
1:04 PM
@Memor-X Which is weird because in the one guy's case no one from his unit wanted to defend him because he definitely did a war crime!

1:38 PM
Idk if that paper is reputable but I've seen this reported elsewhere as well

> Astronomers also expressed dismay at the impact the [Starlink] constellation would have on astronomical observations, both in visual and radio wavelengths owing to the transmissions of each satellite. SpaceX has sought to address the former by painting the bottom of each satellite black, the company noted in an email
You'll never guess what happened next!

@GnomeSlice likewise here in Australia. it's just a shame that when people read cannabis they think pot heads and not possible medicine

2:18 PM
@TimStone "You did it too! That makes you a bad man!"

@Nzall Oh, please do.
Please please please.

@Nzall It worked for Prince Andrew!

Oh wow that seems like a weird thing to do with two guys you definitely don't know

@TimStone uh, okay. That's certainly a... Tactic... I guess...

2 hours later…
4:28 PM
@Memor-X agreed. If you're interested in news on the topic at all I can recommend a really really great reporting outlet that focuses on it
They source their scientific articles really well and while they are what I would consider 'pro-cannabis' they're very good at unbiased reporting

More possible witnesses to the Ukraine matter:
Eh. Interesting article about how the frozen funds came to the House's attention, and they started digging into the matter. Might help explain the timing of how and when funds were finally released. So related, but not central, I guess.
The biggest takeaway is that it might have all come to light even without the whistleblower

4:48 PM
Less quickly and with more plausible deniability probably
And herr drumpf might have gotten what he wanted

Apparently this is a big deal, but, come on, did anyone ever doubt that he did?
Short article, here it is in its entirety:
> The House of Representatives is now investigating whether President Donald Trump lied to special counsel Robert Mueller in written answers he provided in the Russia investigation, the House's general counsel said in federal court Monday.
> "Did the President lie? Was the President not truthful in his responses to the Mueller investigation?" House general counsel Douglas Letter told the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit about why the House now needs access to grand jury material Mueller collected in his investigation.
> This story is breaking and will be updated.
Looks like the "House arguing in court that getting access to redacted grand jury material is important to determine if Trump lied to Mueller" story was previously reported (9/30): Politico: Trump may have lied to Mueller, House Democrats say
Sounds like it was previously in written arguments, this morning it was argued verbally in court
This suit seems a particularly egregious example of the White House trying to shut down reporting it doesn't like:
(content warning: Fox News)
They mention it but don't link it; the lawsuit is based largely on this Politico article: Nunes protégé fed Ukraine info to Trump
Not a lawyer, but I don't suspect this has much chance of succeeding in court, even if certain elements of the article turn out not to be true

5:36 PM
@BradC Breitbart's not allowed here fyi

@GnomeSlice Just a linked PDF of the suit, not an article.

@BradC holy crap this complaint is insane

5:59 PM
If true, this puts a nail in the coffin of "we were just concerned about corruption!":

Pompeo is supposedly making a statement at 2:30

> House impeachment investigators are probing whether President Donald Trump, or anyone in his inner circle, directed the president’s former special envoy to Ukraine, Kurt Volker, to press Ukrainian senior officials to shut down a criminal investigation of ex-President Petro Poroshenko, according to sources close to the impeachment inquiry and committee records.

Apropos of nothing, Trump met with Powell in the White House residence today, he apparently has not been into the West Wing yet

It is entirely unclear why Trump being rushed to the hospital in an apparently unplanned visit is not bigger news

Especially after Grisham gave that extremely odd explanation
Like he's old, maybe he just had a heart murmur or something and they wanted to check it out, whatever. But "Actually he's super healthy haven't you seen him at those rallies?" is just unnecessarily weird!

6:06 PM
@BradC @GnomeSlice So I've been thinking on this, and despite not being an article, I'm still going to delete it. Two reasons. First off, part of why Breitbart isn't allowed is the site just can't be trusted, and tbh I wouldn't put it paste them for fake something like this (although I assume this is real).

More importantly, though, I don't want to get into a situation where we allow some Breitbart stuff, but not others, and then theirs this weird ambiguous grey line of "well you allowed this! Why not this?"

I looked for a different link to the actual complaint but was unable to find it, possibly because Google is getting it confused for other things

@TimStone So far Fox News is the only site with information on it too, which you know, is a thing.
Fox News and Breitbart. The most trustworthy of sites.

Probably because it's a laughably bad case, like that text is just Angry Poster levels of legal writing
They linked to a realclearpolitics article about Schiff being duped by comedians for absolutely no reason!

I, for one, am excited for the trial.

I wonder if Trump won't just collapse from apoplexy one of these days.
The guy's so incensed by opposition that the rage will just make his heart fail one day.

6:12 PM
@TimStone Turns out that prank call is the origin of the weird "Dems were looking for nudes of Trump!!1!" thing that Nunes kept repeating at the impeachment hearing

I like that he gets angry at one of those parody accounts Nunes doesn't like either
@Frank I'm honestly not sure how he doesn't have heart issues given his affinity for fast food, that's like a legitimate problem for so many folks
My step-grandfather seems to be the same way and it's mind boggling to me, I eat too much fast food and my body acts like I'm on my deathbed

@TimStone I used to eat so much fast food. Now, my wife and I try to make work lunches for the week, so it's at least marginally more healthy (and less expensive!) than eating out every day.

SCOTUS has temporarily stayed the release of Trump's taxes, I assume while they decide whether or not to take up the case

7:25 PM
@TimStone Talk about an understated headline: AP Exclusive: US softens position on Israeli settlements
Does anyone else get security errors (certificate warnings) following AP links?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the story, but I didn't think that was supposed to be a role to aspire to...
> Right-wing pundit and recently announced Trump advisory board member Clarence Mason Weaver has said that women aren’t equal to men and that they damaged society when they won the “‘right’ to leave the home and go to work.” He has claimed that women who report sexual misconduct at work are the reason “why we don’t want to be around you in a business.” And he has told women that they should carry themselves as “handmaidens” and “be submissive.”

8:28 PM
@BradC I mean, it was already well known that the majority of Trump supporters are racist and exist

@Nzall Yes, they do in fact exist :)

@BradC Man, I grew up traditional, and even for me, that's straight up stupid.

lol

reading the details, she may not have done anything wrong. She didn't make the fake Time cover, and didn't use it herself, and with regard to calling herself an "alumni" of Harvard business school, even though she didn't get a degree:
> A Harvard Business School spokesperson told NBC that the school lets people who attend certain executive education programs claim “alumni status,” even if they didn’t get a degree.

Ah, I didn't hear the bit about her not having made/used the Time cover
Which like who cares except also why would you
camera pans to the President

9:52 PM
@Nzall heard this this morning. if he lies to the hearing is that just as bad as Clinton lying to congress?

@Memor-X I mean, the hearings ARE for congress
more or less
every member on those committees that are holding the hearings is a representative

@Nzall yeh but just trying to see if Trump lying there would be the same as Clinton which got him impeached which is something my uncle said "they didn't care Clinton was having sex with another woman, they cared he lied to congress"

it would be sworn testimony in an official proceeding, so yes

but ofcause different time so maybe now the GOP doesn't give a toss that their leader would lie to them

@Memor-X It most likely would be

9:57 PM
@Memor-X This, unfortunately

@BradC oof
@Memor-X this was newt gingrich so "they cared he lied to congress" is one of those "technically true, but eh..." things.

10:12 PM
@Yuuki ahhh, so my uncle was quoting him then

Probably not?
Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House during the Clinton impeachment, IIRC, and he was pushing for an impeachment regardless because Gingrich is/was prototypical of the modern-day GOP.

10:39 PM
I wasn't politically aware when this was going down, but in retrospect, it looks a lot like what they actually wanted to impeach him for was Presidenting While Democrat, but since that's not actually an impeachable offense they went digging for anything they could find that was.

The current GOP is many (despicable) things but the one thing they definitely aren't is original.

@ToxicFrog Pretty much. Now there are reasons to think it might go down differently today, especially in light of the #metoo movement
A lot of Dems think (today) that he probably ought to have resigned

@BradC quite; today the president can get away with open bragging about sexual assault on tape without repercussions.

@ToxicFrog Yep. But meanwhile the dems are attempting to stay consistent, for example the Frankin fiasco
Sure, there is a faction that's like "they can get away with it, why can't we??" But if we're taking a stand on principle, then we should take a stand on principle, and not on the party of the offender

Alberta's government is facing accusations of political interference for moving to fire the province's elections commissioner, who is in the middle of investigating Premier Jason Kenney's 2017 campaign for the leadership of the United Conservative Party. cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/…
