Either because I'm now in a queue which has multiple exit points, or because I'm just faster than most cashiers anyways (I used to be a cashier myself). I still use regular checkout occasionally if one happens to be empty.

@Wipqozn There are actually a couple supermarket chains in Belgium that support in-store selfscanning: you scan your membership card at the entrance and get a handheld scanning device. while you're collecting your goods, you scan in the barcode of everything you get, and at the end you plug in your scanner, scan your card at the self-checkout counter and then pay

so you don't even need to unload your cart at the end. Just put your reusable bags in the trolley, put your groceries in directly after scanning, and then just pay and leave at the exit
