Stallman out waves bye

@TimStone FSF resignation is still missing ...
I wonder whether that will ever happen, though

12:34 AM
Hmm true
The Saudis are referring to the refinery attack as "their 9/11", so naturally all of Twitter has pointed out that was technically just, you know, 9/11

A: Is Yang not precluded from conducting his "UBI experiment" as an electoral candidate?

K DogResults: Questionable, will ultimately be decided by the FEC and/or the Courts (the FEC doesn't currently have a quorum, so does not even have enough members to rule on allegations of wrongdoing or issue any punishment, so probably nothing will come of it). Yang's team obviously believes this to...

this is just getting more stupid

Fuck the FEC can’t make a decision either way on the Yang thing

@Memor-X in no way surprising, still disappointing :/

12:46 AM
No quorum
@TimStone reading the Wikipedia article on this guy...he’s crazy
> According to Stallman, the free software movement has much in common with that of Mahatma Gandhi.

even without the latest mess and the underlying issues in his person around that, rms israther very ... eccentric?

> Stallman discourages the use of several storage technologies such as DVD or Blu-ray video discs because the content of such media is encrypted. He considers manufacturers' use of encryption on non-secret data (to force the user to view certain promotional material) as a conspiracy.

he's kinda peculiar around terminology, so that word is probably used in the sense of "plot" in general

Andrew Scheer pitches sports, arts tax credits for kids' activities cbc.ca/news/politics/…
> Research by the federal Department of Finance prepared for the Liberal government shows that many families never claimed these expenses the last time they were available.
This is just Scheer bringing back another harper program that didn't really work

As far as I can tell Scheers plan if elected is to just roll back the clock to when harper was PM

2:37 AM
bye bye

@Elva it's the furfest incident

> On December 7, 2014, a gas leak occurred at the Hyatt hotel in Rosemont. The hotel was evacuated, and 19 guests were hospitalized.[4][5] Later, an investigation found a broken glass bottle containing a concentration of chlorine powder inside the building.[6][7] 18 of the 19 people hospitalized were released soon after and the convention continued. Rosemont Police interviewed hotel guests and employees, as well as employees at local stores which sell chlorine. These interviews and subsequent investigation did not result in any known suspects or charges.[8]

Well that gives me enough to google it but... work >.>

Not the most fun thing as I've seen people plan worse things for 2019

lmfao, it was super weird that Giuliani was working for free but this is almost 100% the explanation because it's really shitty and dumb

@TimStone if flour... usually bleached?
is*
> Use of chlorine, bromates, and peroxides is not allowed in the European Union.[1]
Aaah... that explains why I never heard of it

x)
Yeah, we're…we're something
I think it addition to changing the colour it also helps to form gluten, it's essentially the aging process of flour

Yeah, that's what the wikipedia says
So less actual bleach and more like, artificially aged

still weird to use highly lethal chemicals in food processing ...

(yes, I am aware that 'bleached' in general just means... whitened? ish, sorta.)
@Vogel612 yeah, like sodium and chlorine!

12:51 PM
Hey it's fine to use chemicals to whiten the flour because it turns out it's actually the E.Coli that will kill you
!!!

Well, from what I read with chicken which is in america also chlorinated, the flour/chicken is handled waaay less proper. Leading to it being contaminated with e.coli because, well, it'll be cleaned anyway so no big deal.
Narrator voice: Except it is, in fact, a big deal

1:03 PM
@TimStone I need to get me a YubiKey or similar. I am using Authy for one time codes, which helps, but I think a YubiKey would be more helpful.

Yeah, there's always some concern with Authy since it can transfer your seed across devices, which is convenient but also kind of weakens it as a second factor I guess.
Using YubiKey/whatever else is super easy for stuff that supports it correctly, now that the NFC works with both Android and iPhone it's a pretty easy sell

@Elva There was a Vox article or something (may have been old media) which basically laid out the case that the US and Canada should be doing more to ensure that E. Coli never becomes a problem for pork and poultry.
@TimStone Yeah, and where I store the seed to most of my logins on my NAS, the back-up functionality isn't the most important part. The Chrome extension, though, is nice, but I could get that through LastPass, which is doing basically the same thing as Authy.

oh fuck yeah
this is truly the content I crave
I got a fundraising email from Martin Sheen one time, that was cool

@TimStone Everybody knows the real hotness is three-factor authentication:
@Unionhawk Oh, I read that yesterday.
As someone who really enjoyed The West Wing, yeah they're pretty right.

@Unionhawk How do you expect me to take you seriously when you can't even make a proper Simpsons reference?

lmao, we're saying that the Saudi missile defense didn't work because they were all pointed south towards Yemen instead of having some pointed toward noted newcomer to the agitator game checks notes Iran

3:39 PM
@TimStone I'm pretty sure for the past couple decades, the Saudis have been compensating for their incompetence with American dollars and hey why fix it if it ain't broke.

3:53 PM

Ooo, I want to see the vote tally animation on that.

my guess is they didn't bother running the stv
or taking votes

well yeah, but thatsthejoke.jpg

Based on the beginning and end times
but technically speaking, I believe it would run with an election threshold of exactly 50%, elect 1, transfer excess, then elect 2

Everyone: How about better public transit?
Hyundai: Okay, so…walking cars, maybe?

4:17 PM
@TimStone The article has a rendering of someone who is wheelchair bound getting in a taxi... from the steps of a NYC brownstone house. That seems like the worst possible living arrangement for someone in a wheelchair.

> South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed its concept for a vehicle with robotic legs that could save lives as a first responder in natural disaster zones.

Halifax Mac and Cheese Festival leaves sour taste for attendees cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/…
cc @MBraedley
I guess the mac and cheese festival was a complete and utter disaster

Honestly, makes a fairly good all right adequate amount of sense as a natural disaster emergency rescue vehicle. Not for everyday use though.

That costs $10. I'm glad I didn't go.

@Wipqozn wow
I get bigger poke bowls for cheaper just down the street.

4:19 PM
> Philip Suos, the founder and managing director of the Mac and Cheese Festival, said in an email that organizers were anticipating about 7,500 people to attend the event over three days, but over 45,000 ended up going — six times more than expected.
@Yuuki Yeah it's ridiculous
> Suos did not respond to CBC News' request for an interview, nor did he answer follow-up questions about the number of vendors that took part and if he has gotten any complaints from customers.
That's the organizer. He's also disabled commenting on facebook and what not. aka he fucked up, and doesn't want to own up to it. I guess they've organized multiple such events in Ontario, too?

@Wipqozn How did they run the numbers to be so wildly off base?

@Wipqozn So there's a reason the beer and whiskey festivals sell tickets and then it's (generally) all you can eat drink: crowd control and vendors can better anticipate demand.
I'm pretty sure vendors all get the same base cut of the tickets sold, and then extras based on volume given out.

@Wipqozn Also, "leaves sour taste"? Come on, have some editorial dignity: "Halifax Mac and Cheese Festival curdles attendees' expectations"
You can't just slap on "leaves sour taste" for every food festival, that's incredibly lazy headline writing.

@Yuuki YOU'RE HIRED
Also, the part that really rubs me is they refused to give people refunds on the tickets they couldn't use.
Since like, places didn't have stock. Including no vegan or gluten free options, which I guess they advertised.

I know there's gluten-free noodles so therefore gluten-free mac exists but what's vegan cheese made out of?
Vegan cheese is a non-dairy or plant cheese analogue aimed at vegans and other people who want to avoid animal products. As with plant milk, vegan cheese can be made from seeds, such as sesame and sunflower; nuts, such as cashew, pine nut, and almond; and soybeans, peanuts, coconut oil, nutritional yeast, tapioca, and rice, among other ingredients. Vegan cheese is cholesterol-free and may be a good source of protein. == History == Non-dairy cheese became commercially available in the 1980s, but at that time and into the 1990s, the vegan cheeses available weren’t as good quality as regular cheese...

CBC News: Scheer vows to boost federal contributions to Registered Education Savings Plans.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/andrew-scheer-resp-contributions-1.5286528
> In response to the Conservative policy, the Liberal war room pointed to research prepared by Statistics Canada that suggests the program disproportionately benefits wealthier families.

Yeah, if they want to make higher education more affordable, they should give everyone, say, $500 if they contributed at least $50 to an RESP. Make it a flat rate and it'll level the playing field a bit.

@Wipqozn say what, having a special tax-exempt savings account disproportionately benefits wealthy people because they have the disposable income to put into savings? where on earth have i heard that before
hmm can't put my finger to it, i must be crazy

pressure people to vote sean spicer in a dancing contest to own the libs?

I don't even understand who the elites are supposed to be in this case

5:08 PM
Or why I'm supposed to believe that martyrdom even works. Our collective attention span is approximately two seconds. At most, it would enable Spicer to do a griftlicious GoFundMe before falling back out of the public eye.

@puzzlepiece87 The Alt-Right and the Furious: GoFundMe Grift
(Side note: clearly over-aged actors and poor acting aside, Tokyo Drift was the best F&F movie. #fitemeirl)

6:42 PM
@Yuuki I'm only mildly positive on F&F, but I pick Hobbs & Shaw as best F&F movie. Did you see it?

@puzzlepiece87 Not yet.
Tokyo Drift is the best F&F movie because it's only the movie that's completely about racing.
Every other one has secret government agencies, conspiracies, etc.
I mean, there's also an underlying theme of a foreigner/immigrant finding a new home and culture, but they don't really do anything with it because it's a F&F movie and that's not what you're here for.

@Yuuki I guess that depends if you consider Shaw technically killing Han in the movie but not really. Also the Yakuza, a little bit

I mean, they show up but they kinda sorta don't really interact with the plot other than "hey we run the races".
Nobody's infiltrating the Yakuza or trying to take down some higher-up in the gang.

I'll accept that

6:58 PM
Hobbs & Shaw is not at all about racing, but it takes the two funniest members of the ensemble cast and frees them of the burden of all the actors who don't do comedy.
F&F never takes itself too seriously, but not all of its cast can do humor well.
And there are still plenty of cars to ogle.
