either way, this is is getting the "I have Black Friends" skill to 100

2 hours later…
1:37 AM
What is this fresh hell?
"Gotta make the hallways curved so the shooter's line of sight will be disrupted!"
"Have you tried addressing the fact the shooter can exist at all?"
"Oh heavens no, we're instead incorporating this depressingly common but uncommon event into the very planning of our multimillion dollar building instead"
????
This is somehow even more dumb

quote from the news article but also touched on by the video
> Bolsonaro has rejected the data from his state agency while blaming opponents for staging the fires to hurt his image.

He fired the last director of INPE after criticizing agency statistics showing an increase in deforestation in Brazil.
you know, because Brazilian Trump does the same and starts blaming others with no evidence to support it

3:33 AM
Marc A. Thiessen is back at it again
> But what makes Greenland particularly valuable to the United States is global warming. The unavoidable receding of Arctic sea ice will open a new sea route in the Arctic that can be used for both commercial and military vessels.
Ooh isn't that nice
"Oh the Earth is fucking melting under our feet, let's make a shipping route and do nothing to stop it"

3:53 AM
@TimStone good point from someone in the comments section:
> This is like hearing a new school administrator say, "In order to deal with the growing issue of sexual abuse, we're making sure that all teachers have to wear condoms when they're on school property."
America is fucked
@TimStone what’s this about?
Oh wtf
It was a Jews for Jesus guy...

5 hours later…
9:08 AM
Something something, xkcd for everything

@TimStone I mean, it's not like there is only one school in the entirety of the USA. A school shooter might just as well go to a school in the next town over

I'm not sure of the statistics but I assume most school shootings are by students or ex-students of said school? Or people in some way related to the school

2 hours later…
11:37 AM
@TimStone wtf is wrong with your country. Seriously. Also, those statistics about how only 30% of Americans own guns, and only 3% own an assault rifle is interesting.

@TimStone that's new, they already called him an idiot

12:25 PM
David Hamilton Koch (; born May 3, 1940, died August 23, 2019) was an American businessman, philanthropist, political activist, and chemical engineer. He joined the family business Koch Industries, the second-largest privately held company in the United States, in 1970. He became president of the subsidiary Koch Engineering in 1979, and became a co-owner of Koch Industries, with older brother Charles, in 1983. He served as an executive vice president until his retirement in 2018. Upon retirement in June 2018 due to health issues, Koch received the title of Director Emeritus. Koch is an influential...

the current events related maintenance templates are v good
it's already semi-protected anyway

@Unionhawk Ah, so that's what you meant with "add a quick {{Recent death}}. You mean you added that?

@Nzall correct

1:21 PM
(Daniel Pantaleo was fired for killing Eric Garner five years ago)

1:49 PM
> "No one has our backs"
No one except the DA, grand juries, literally every other police department that'll take you in after you're "fired" for literally killing someone.

I can't wait for them to go on strike or some shit and then nothing happens because that's what happens literally every time
"they'll regret crossing us!" nothing of consequence occurs
"the city was in chaos you should have seen it" no it wasn't

"The number of shooting fatalities and injuries has gone down"

@Yuuki If you want your citizens to have your backs...maybe don't kill them indiscriminately, and be willing to be held accountable for your actions?

noted communist, bill de blasio lol

2:09 PM
Seth Moulton has dropped out which I'm noting because otherwise no one would have noticed either way
Hmm the David Koch news is complicated because on the one hand the Koch brothers funnel millions of dollars into causes that are destroying the planet and society but on the other hand they were nice to my dad…and that's a lesson in how spheres of influence work, folks 🤔

> Highlighting the point, there was a delicious snippet in last year’s PBS documentary, “Park Avenue: Power, Money and The American Dream,” which drew on material from Gross’ book. A former 740 Park Ave. doorman dished to director Alex Gibney about the most tight-fisted residents and dared to name names.

The worst offender was oil baron David Koch, co-founder of Koch Industries, who has an estimated worth of $36 billion.

“We would load up his trucks — two vans usually — every weekend for the Hamptons . . . multiple guys, in and out, in and out, heavy bags,” said the employee, his face in
Maybe that'll help.

@TimStone lol

How's he sleeping?

@Frank With at minimum, one eye closed.

2:18 PM
@Yuuki I'm gonna give you major sideeye right now.

@Frank Hey, you don't need to show off in front of Crenshaw.

> "The district now includes Kingwood, Humble, and Atascocita in northeastern Harris County, then loops around northern and western Houston before moving toward the center of the city roughly following Interstate 10. The district will pass through Memorial Park, before turning south and capturing the strongly Democratic Montrose, Rice University, and parts of Braeswood."
Kingwood is very conservative and I believe Humble is too.
Basically those areas and north Houston and along Beltway 8 down to I-10 make up enough conservatives to silence the strongly Democratic downtown areas of Montrose and Rice.

@Yuuki Yeah, the idea of Gerrymandering is that you fill as many districts as you can with a slight voting advantage to you so that you have a maximum of opposite side votes in districts you're going to win

2:36 PM
@Yuuki what a nice, fair, non-gerrymanderred district

@Stormblessed you ain't seen nothing yet
There is enough Gerrymandering in the USA that you can make a font with it

@Nzall oh I forgot about that :P

@Nzall That New York 8th is something else.
I had to double-check for smudges on my monitor.

@Yuuki but like...couldn't they at least try to make it coherent
and not have some random floating islands
oh those are real islands :P

good, my state isn't actually so bad

(Trump is mad Powell was like "Look the Fed can't do anything about the President doing dumb trade wars")

Maryland's 3rd :o
hi @MadScientist
Maryland's 8th

> Our Country has lost, stupidly, Trillions of Dollars with China over many years. They have stolen our Intellectual Property at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year, & they want to continue. I won’t let that happen! We don’t need China and, frankly, would be far....
> ....better off without them. The vast amounts of money made and stolen by China from the United States, year after year, for decades, will and must STOP. Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing..
> ....your companies HOME and making your products in the USA. I will be responding to China’s Tariffs this afternoon. This is a GREAT opportunity for the United States. Also, I am ordering all carriers, including Fed Ex, Amazon, UPS and the Post Office, to SEARCH FOR & REFUSE,....
> ....all deliveries of Fentanyl from China (or anywhere else!). Fentanyl kills 100,000 Americans a year. President Xi said this would stop - it didn’t. Our Economy, because of our gains in the last 2 1/2 years, is MUCH larger than that of China. We will keep it that way!
He thinks he can just order anyone around using Twitter

@MadScientist Well, it worked fine for his own business, didn't it? Maybe not on Twitter, but just tell people what to do, and they do it! If they don't, they get fired!

Worked "fine" for certain definitions of fine
Reminder that trump is not a successful businessman, he's just rich from his daddy.

On the one hand, China is a lot of problems. On the other hand, I can't help but mutter "opium war" under my breath.

Not even doing better then the general market despite plenty of extremely shady stuff :p

3:29 PM
@MadScientist he's right about fentanyl coming from China at least. It's a huge problem

@GnomeSlice ranting on Twitter won't do anything about that

1 hour later…
4:47 PM
Guy nobody has ever heard of drops out of presidential race
No more...Seth Moulton
Such a loss
Like what was this guy even trying to do?
Swallwell had gun control
Inslee had climate
Hickenlooper didn’t have much of an interesting policy, either

@Stormblessed Did Hickenlooper have an interesting anything?

@Yuuki interesting name

5:03 PM
Sometimes, I wonder what China would be like if imperialism never reached East Asia.
Or if the Chinese actually managed to repel imperialism in a significant way.

I feel like there needs to be an update to that video though, what with the proposed extradition law and protests that followed.

5:52 PM
Felix Sater was super busy informing on everyone, my word
Yeah gonna go out on a limb here and say that the judges won't let them get away with suggesting a contractual agreement prevents them from cooperating with the government 🤷‍♂️
lol, brutal
> The common denominator is a claim that we should focus broadly on Kentucky instead of narrowly on Davis. Yet Davis provides no legal authority for that proposition. We can find none. And we know why: that's not how qualified immunity works, and that's not how constitutional rights works.

@TimStone Awesome. Equal rights still aren't explicit as to which groups they apply to, though, correct?

Right, the government continues to remove protections for i.e. trans individuals largely unabated, unfortunately
Kim Davis suggesting she should skate by on qualified immunity was dumb even with qualified immunity being what it is these days

1 hour later…
8:08 PM
@MBraedley sigh, as if on cue
