@Stormblessed Loopholes in election campaigning.
I...get it. But those rules need to be updated so it can't be used as a way to stifle truth.
At least our campaign seasons are relatively short.
Election's in October.

@Frank oh you're in Canada?
Is everyone here from Canada, or just the mods?

We're all Canadian.
Here to take your stuff.
Politely, of course.

12:29 AM
@Frank they’re coming for our...nothing because their government is better

@GnomeSlice IN MICE

12:44 AM
@TimStone i don't think he ever was joking
i think Trump seriously wants to buy Greenland and thinks that it's a win-win for everyone involved if he did

@TimStone "We're not seriously considering buying Greenland! It's just a neat idea."

They're apparently not sure if someone stole the stuff or if it was just a long con and people 50 years ago didn't put anything inside

@TimStone or it had people yelling "you suck 2020!"

is it anti-semitic in Trump's dictionary if he's only calling Democrat Jewish people stupid or disloyal and not the Republican ones? because we know that being critical of Israel in his dictionary is anti-semitic

5:21 AM
@TimStone I just woke up to that headline. I thought there wasn't anything Trump could do that still surprised me, but there it is

6 hours later…
@TimStone I saw someone on Twitter make the comment that he has come harder against Jewish democrats than against nazis.

12:32 PM
Imagine thinking at this point that you know any better than all the other parents who said their children would never do such a thing

@Memor-X Where did the idea even come from?
I suppose from the part of his brain that generates distractions from <current scandal>.

The US has a history of interest in Greenland and it probably came up as a topic in relation to arctic security
Also, from the article I linked about them formulating the plan, the most predictable sentence
> Although many in the United States have mocked the idea, one Democratic lawmaker on Sunday voiced openness to considering it
clears throat MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN

12:48 PM
@TimStone Probably more arctic drilling rights.

> Andrew Yang wants to employ blockchain in voting.
Isn't one of blockchain's features the ability to link transactions to the individual?
It's been awhile so I've forgotten things.

1:05 PM
Sean Spicer will be on the next season of Dancing with the Stars which is confusing because I thought you had to be a star for that
lmfao they were shut down for failure to pay taxes
buddy

I mean same (apparently we as a local of DSA owe the commonwealth of kentucky a lot of money now)
(hopefully they waive late fees and fines because we didn't know!)

Wait why do you owe Kentucky taxes?

because we are a 501(c)(4) organization incorporated in the state of kentucky

@TimStone That show only made it to like season 3 or something before I didn't recognize half of the people on it.

1:14 PM
@TimStone Whomst amongst us could have ever seen this coming?

> “It wasn’t an attempt to lie or cover up anything,” said Freund, a teacher and administrator for 50 years. “I’m 70 years old. I forgot about (the emails). Do I get it right all the time? No. Maybe the school board wants to fire me.”
"Look I just forgot about the emails in which I knew more details about how a child had held another child at gunpoint, WHOMST AMONGST US?"

@TimStone This is why you don't arm teachers. You need to have qualified, trained and educated personnel be the good guy with a gun, not an underpaid, overworked and unqualified faculty member
Or not have guns at all obvioulsy

oh hey our good friend the president of brazil is burning the amazon right now
neat
awesome
cool

> My proposal to the politically correct Automobile Companies would lower the average price of a car to consumers by more than $3000, while at the same time making the cars substantially safer. Engines would run smoother. Very little impact on the environment! Foolish executives!

Wait, automobile companies are being "politically correct" now?
Huh?

I've no clue what triggered that incoherent mess

@MadScientist Probably Californian resistance to his environmentally very little impact proposal to checks notes rollback car emission restrictions

is he talking about himself?

@Memor-X yes
He's quoting some other crazy dude

Ladies and gentleman: the guy in charge of America's Nuclear arsenal

@Nzall who?

Oh right, you guys want news. Here, have an article from The Independent
Rick Perry
The secretary of Energy, who also monitors all nuclear weapons

@Nzall Independent is owned by Saudi Arabia...I don't trust them much

@Stormblessed Do you trust Buzzfeed?

2:27 PM
@Stormblessed Business Insider?

@Nzall they're too blatantly clickbait :/
but ok

the only legitimate news source is current affairs
and podcasts

Here, one of those will probably be reliable enough for you

relatedly, I should sub to current affairs: the physical edition

@Unionhawk The only real news is Tucker Carlson, duh
@Nzall I guess Huffpost is okay
Way too liberal, but not terribly clickbaity

That seems awfully optimistic there Bill

bill wrong party

@Unionhawk Bolsonaro has now told news outlets that his "feeling" is that it was definitely outside agitators setting the fires to make him look bad or some shit

> Trump says administration looking "seriously" at ending birthright citizenship
sighs

@TimStone he almost certainly can't do that, though

@TimStone So... everyone needs to take naturalization/citizenship tests/exams then?
I vote then that we get rid of birthright citizenship and all current citizens have to (re-)take the citizenship exam.
Having taken the citizenship exam myself, I'm about 200% sure that everyone who went through the naturalization process has more civil education than the average birthright citizen.

The Alliance of American Football, commonly referred to in brief as AAF or The Alliance, was a professional American football league, founded by Charlie Ebersol and Bill Polian. The AAF consisted of eight centrally owned and operated teams, all in the southern and western United States. All teams except Birmingham were located in metropolitan areas with at least one major professional sports franchise. The AAF began play on February 9, 2019, six days after the National Football League's (NFL) Super Bowl LIII championship game. On April 2, 2019, the league's football operations were suspended by...
That was literally just this year, and didn't even last a whole season.
Plus there's already another football league anyways,t he AFL (not to be confused with the AFL)
The Arena Football League (AFL) is a professional indoor American football league in the United States. It was founded in 1987 by Jim Foster, making it the third longest-running professional football league in North America, after the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL). The AFL plays a proprietary code known as arena football, a form of indoor American football played on a 66-by-28 yard field (about a quarter of the surface area of an NFL field), with rules encouraging offensive performance, resulting in a faster-paced and higher-scoring game. The sport was invented...
They really need to stop trying to make a third football league work (since college is anotheR)
Like I know you americans are craaaaazy for Football, but even your love only goes so far.
Although then again I suppose europe has a million Soccerball leagues

Oooooooooorb, a very expensive ooooorb
The President wants to solve the veteran suicide crisis by checks notes essentially giving them access to a government stash of ketamine
The drug is meant to enhance the impact of other oral antidepressants I think? So it's a possible benefit to certain people, for sure, but it has a high rate of dependence and isn't like some magical cure all

@Wipqozn Don't forget that one league that played during the NFL's offseason until Trump (who was the owner of one of the teams) pushed for direct competition with the NFL.
And that decision ended up bankrupting the whole league.
The United States Football League (USFL) was an American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin. The ideas behind the USFL were conceived in 1965 by New Orleans businessman David Dixon, who saw a market for a professional football league that would play in the summer, when the...
> In 1985, the USFL voted to move from a spring to a fall schedule in 1986 to compete directly with the NFL. This was done at the urging of New Jersey Generals majority owner Donald Trump and a handful of other owners as a way to force a merger between the leagues.

If the NFL wouldn't give him a team by golly he'd just check notes attempt to force a merger of two sports leagues to weasel his way in
Really shocking that plan didn't work out for him

7:08 PM
On the one hand, I feel really bad for the USFL. On the other hand, they won an anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL and were awarded a comical $1 in damages.
Which because it was an anti-trust suit was tripled to a whopping $3.
And the final check was for $3.76 because of interest.

8:08 PM
@Yuuki wait what

> As part of this strategy, the USFL filed an antitrust lawsuit against the National Football League in 1986, and a jury ruled that the NFL had violated anti-monopoly laws. However, in a victory in name only, the USFL was awarded a judgment of just $1, which under antitrust laws, was tripled to $3.

I read that I'm just confused

8:43 PM
@Yuuki That's a lot of interest
@Yuuki I could not agree more

Many struggling Ontarians who rely on social assistance will have less money in their pockets once the Ford government’s Ontario Works changes come into effect, a new update by the HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario says. pressprogress.ca/…
> Last fall, social assistance recipients were supposed to see the rules changed that would allow them to keep up to $400 per month without triggering clawbacks in their assistance — but the Ford government decided to cut that to $300 and raised the clawback from 50% to 75% of every additional dollar earned.

@Wipqozn to be honest i get the feeling they are doing this so Trump can go "LOOK HOW FULL OUR CENTERS ARE! WE NEED THE WALL TO STOP THIS INVASION!"
