@Ash the #spiritual-anarchists channel of the lsc discord has recommended All Things in Common to me which has entered my lengthening backlog.
Well assuming the cincinnati library agrees with my purchase recommendation

1:32 AM
I am here for asking the President wtf he's talking about until he strokes out or whatever tbh

@Unionhawk oooh that could be very good yes

@Wipqozn I never understood that, just blatantly "respecting" anything anyone believes. I'm not going to respect anyone's believe that the earth is flat, that the moonlanding was faked. If you've got a well-reasoned belief based on things that we've not shown to be either way and you're working on different assumptions then I am, I'll respect that. If you've got a mess of unfounded, unexamined goop for a belief system... why is that worthy of respect?

@TimStone I just wish we'd stop letting the stupid things he says distract us from the terrible things he and the Republican party have done
This happens every time
Something terrible happens or is revealed (shootings, massacres, Russia connections, Epstein connections, etc) and the next day Trump says something stupid or bigoted and the media pounces on that and within the day everyone has forgotten about the very real and bad thing that's happened

almost as if it's on purpose

@Yuuki I like this
Oh wait, that's not news, I can't star that
@Memor-X Oh it 100% is. That's the frustrating part. They know exactly what they're doing and everyone still just eats it up
@Wipqozn Yeah, to them "separation of church and state" means "It's a Christian nation, so keep other religions out of it"

@SaintWacko I wish so much this was news.
It's really unfortunate that Meme Biden is so much better/cooler than Real-Life Biden.

> The new wave of rule-passing started last summer, when the city instituted the country’s first-ever freeze on for-hire vehicle licenses, barring drivers from registering new cars to drive for the companies. (The freeze exempts wheelchair-accessible and electric vehicles.) In January, Uber and Lyft trips beginning or ending in much of Manhattan got slapped with an extra $2.75 congestion charge. (Taxis got a $2.50 surcharge of their own.) Then, despite a lawsuit from Lyft (and a smaller competitor named Juno), the companies were forced to begin paying drivers $17.22 per hour earlier this ye
Excellent.
De Blasio has many failures but some good things come out of NYC, I admit.

3:34 PM
Stifling innovation by making them... checks notes provide the service they are providing for everyone without screwing their employees over. How dare they!

@Elva To be fair, it's debatable to what extent non-taxi ridehailing will continue to exist before self-driving cars get here.
Uber has only 2-4 quarters of cash left and has already done an IPO.
And self-driving cars not only at Uber but elsewhere have been marred by setback after setback.
I was completely wrong about how soon they would be ready, personally.
Lyft is not doing as poorly financially but is also losing money.

> “Americans deserve an economy that allows each person to succeed through hard work and creativity and to lead a life of meaning and dignity," reads the statement from the organization, which is chaired by JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon.
> JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon
*squints*

@Yuuki ?

@Stormblessed tl;dr it's like the CEO of Exxon-Mobil saying that the oil & gas industry is a major contributor to climate change
Like "yes, it's true but also it's your fault that this is a problem".
If that's not what you mean, "squinting" is when you look at something with your eyes partially closed to provide focus.

@Yuuki It's disclaiming responsibility for your part in creating the problem to begin with.

oh you're experiencing a structural problem? what about if you budgeted... better? that way you could afford a sensible term life insurance policy underwritten by fidelity

"Yes, I have millions of dollars, and maybe 95% of Americans live in adject poverty or will be bankrupted by their first major medical issue, but that's because of their own decisions, so it's their fault."

4:33 PM
This is part of an announcement about how corporations should no longer be maximizing shareholder profits over literally everything.
Like yes but also you're part of the problem.

@Yuuki I feel setting an example by slashing their salaries and distributing it to their employees would go a very long way to making that happen.

@Frank laughs in fundamental misunderstanding of human nature

how dare you imply that Jamie Dimon doesn't work 8000% harder than I do

As much as Nintendo is out of touch with modern gaming and how people share it, their CEO reducing their salary is at least one step in that direction.

You can't just look at salaries.

4:42 PM
My boss is a pretty honest guy; founded this company, and doesn't have a mentality that focuses on maximum profit.
We had a conversation over lunch that strayed into profit sharing, and he'd be all for it, if the employees were willing to accept loss sharing for downturns as well.

IIRC, plenty of CEOs have smaller salaries but still have comical amounts of compensation from stock options and the like.

@Yuuki Okay, yes, I was referring to total comp. It's such a rarity for anyone not C-Level having anything but salary that I missed referring to that.

1 hour later…
6:03 PM
CEO compensation is definitely not an issue that can be solved with a few positive role models
That's just not how any of this works
People are going to do what benefits them personally unless you have strong laws, oversight, penalties, rehabilitation, and even THEN you might still have issues.
You can't just (your personal role model here) your way out of human nature

6:15 PM
Obviously not. But you can't shift capitalism by making a statement that sounds good and doesn't actually effect change.

@Frank I mean, seeing as how the organization is led by Jamie Dimon, I think it's safe to say that the organization has no actual interest or effect in shifting capitalism.

@puzzlepiece87 Not saying it is. Just that it's an easy way to sway opinion when you're not employing critical thinking.

This is most likely in direct response to the recently revealed news that China was spreading fake news about the HK protesters

What's the 2A and 1A refer to?

1st and 2nd Amendment

Oh that makes sense

10:54 PM
lol the library board of Clermont county is gearing up
Moved to retain a high power employment law firm from downtown Cincinnati, and are currently in executive session related to collective bargaining

(this is who Clermont County Library voted to retain)

I hate how their headshots are looking just slightly off camera

what the fuck

That is an oddly constructed sentence
Unless newt is an air force general

11:26 PM
Personally very pro-Oxford comma
I don't think we've reached that part of the timeline yet, thankfully
Yet

@TimStone well people are already dying from the fallout of the explosion so it's already pretty bad
not sure how it wont be worse unless they were testing out a prototype the same Hell Missile the US were thinking about developing during the cold war
@TimStone and the winner is the Tardigrades

"Ah you see Joe doesn't really bring much to the table but he can definitely beat Trump, for reasons!"
She's talking about the polls, in which Biden has only gotten progressively worse, lmao
I can't with these folks

Prob should have left instead of sticking around until after exec session
gdi
Sunk cost

oh there's nothing that substantive on the agenda left?

though prosecutors have 10 days to appeal the verdict which hopefully will fail

maybe uh, y'all should have considered item #9 human resources before adjourning to executive session in item 8.5
