@TimStone this is true because if i recall he's telling everyone to not do business with Huawei who wants to build the 5G Networks but is going to let them do it in the US
@MadScientist he said this about ISIS. ISIS hasn't been defeated, only there caliphate
also not to mention it still took until this year since he came into office for him to say "we defeated ISIS"
ofcause when Trump say "i can win this was in [INSERT RECORD TIME]" i fear he's thinking about just nuking the shit out of the place
@TimStone *looks at Osama Bin Laden*

a part of me feels that when Rudy says “Maybe some were innocent — maybe some weren’t, but I think they’re going to investigate everybody.” he's hinting that some Trump loyalists are in that group because if it was just Trump opponents he would be going off the rails
the headline marquee on Sky News this morning said voting was now closed so it's just a waiting game to see how if the UK is trying to top the US

@GodEmperorDune Oh holy hell

11:21 AM
Wtf timeline are we living in
However, the wisdom of @MadScientist continues to hold true:
Dec 10 '18 at 12:55, by Mad Scientist
The one rule that would have predicted essentially every major event in the last years is "What's the dumbest possible action in this case? That is what will happen"
> Boris Johnson, the ebullient Brexiteer who has promised to lead the United Kingdom out of the European Union with or without a deal by Halloween, will replace Theresa May as prime minister after winning the Conservative Party leadership on Tuesday.
Like just, holy fuck
He's the British Trump.
Like they looked over at the US, and went "You know what? That Trump go is doing all right! I followed him on Twitter, and he makes some good Tweets!"
IT's also looking more and more likely like the next PM will be Andrew Scheer as well
Although I think it would be a minority government, thank zeus.,

11:36 AM
Welp... RIP Britain!

@Kevin Yeah the countries completely fucked

Gonna be an... interesting time

Might be time for another English Revolution.

12:00 PM
@Kevin "Interesting times" as in that ancient Chinese proverb?

Not... intentionally but it fits
Though I hope the original version has a different connotation for the word translated into interesting, cause 'interesting times' is so much better then not interesting
(that is, I assume the original used a word with a different connotation then interesting)
Doesn't seem to actually be either chinese or ancient...

12:15 PM
@Kevin i was about to scroll up to see if there's been any news if there's been a decision, this post alone tells me EVERYTHING!

"RIP Britain" seems like a useful summary

well if there is one saving graces, it seems like MPs don't like the idea of a No Deal Brexit, had been working before now to close loophole Boris could use and the Conservatives probably don't have the numbers to push a No Deal resolution through parliament

Woman shoots McDonald's bathroom after getting cold fries: wtoc.com/2019/07/22/…

maybe come October 31st and Boris can't get a No Deal Brexit the the EU just gives them an infinite extension and the UK Parliament just bitches and moans about Brexit until the election and someone steps forward to use the election as a final opinion on whether to leave the EU

I don't think the EU is going to give them an infinite extension

12:29 PM
@Memor-X Dammit, can't do timestamp sharing from YouTube anymore (at least not easily), but 4:09 in this:

@MBraedley oh yeh, seen this video. isn't this more on showing how what Brexiters want is impossible because of the different zones that have catches they don't like

@Memor-X No, that's the next video in the Brexit series
(or, perhaps, the latest)

@Wipqozn As always with the British version of American things, he's at least semi-coherent when speaking publicly, which probably makes things worse.

@MBraedley ok just saw it, yeh was thinking of the wrong one but have seen it. that last option would piss Nigel Farage and his party off, not like people would give a shit because it's a farce anyway

> The First Amendment prohibits an official who uses a social media account for government purposes from excluding people from an “otherwise open online dialogue” because they say things that the official finds objectionable, Judge Parker wrote.
I just remembered you were wondering about that, and since I was actually on a desktop, I thought I'd provide you with a link with info

1:55 PM
@Wipqozn BoJo has been around for way longer than Trump I'm afraid

@Ronan Politics-wise, maybe, but the Central Park Five was back in the 90s.

BoJo was a political commentator is the 90s as well
Although I'm not sure you could call what Trump was doing political commentary

@Ronan grandstanding?

Yeah but Trump's been a horrible person for longer, I think.

2:04 PM
He's 18 years older yeah

@Ronan Oh I know
Also BoJo makes me think of Bojack Horsemen.
They should have Bojack be prime minister

or might as well go for Lord Bucket Head, at least he's real

2:45 PM
WTF happened to Twitter
I clicked on Wipqozn's link and it looks like mobile now :o
It's weird how candidates like Adam Schiff are wasting their money on Twitter ads; he won with 78% in 2016 and 2018
"I just don’t want to kill 10 million people"
During a meeting with Pakistan's PM

3:34 PM
@Stormblessed I linked that yesterday, and I'm still surprised this didn't make any waves. It's a bunch of truly terrifying statements

@MadScientist I saw it on Colbert and then posted the story here
It's weird that that's the thing nobody is talking about

He's pretending as if killing 10 million people would even be somewhere in the realm of possible options for the US, and I'd go as far as interpreting it that he considers it to be among the reasonable options

It's ridiculous

@MadScientist I think he's said something like this before.

@Yuuki Someone told me he said that he wanted to nuke ISIS once, but I doubt that's actually true

3:40 PM
@MadScientist The question is: if he decided to just do it, would anybody stop him?
Could anybody stop him??

(Its not like he listens to his advisors or anything...)

@BradC Depends on what the nuclear football actually entails, I suppose.
I doubt it's just a big red button.

@BradC Probably

@Yuuki No, there are a lot of humans in the chain of causality between Trump throwing a fit and a nuclear bomb dropping out of the bottom of a B2 bomber, but would those humans defy an order from their commander-in-chief?
Let's hope so?
From what I understand, the code of military ethics requires you to defy an unlawful order, but it's not clear to me whether an order to drop nukes on (country Trump is annoyed with at the moment), though clearly immoral and horrific, would necessarily be unlawful

3:57 PM
Delivery apps like DoorDash are using your tips to pay workers’ wages theverge.com/2019/7/22/20703434/…
> DoorDash offers a guaranteed minimum for each job. For my first order, the guarantee was $6.85 and the customer, a woman in Boerum Hill who answered the door in a colorful bathrobe, tipped $3 via the app. But I still received only $6.85.

> Here’s how it works: If the woman in the bathrobe had tipped zero, DoorDash would have paid me the whole $6.85. Because she tipped $3, DoorDash kicked in only $3.85. She was saving DoorDash $3, not tipping me.

DoorDash argues that they have a higher guaranteed minimum than other delivery apps like UberEats but that's still deceptive.

@Wipqozn I can't click through to the original NYT piece, does it say what happens if this hypothetical bathrobe-wearing customer tipped $10? Does that all still go to DoorDash, and the delivery person still only gets $6.85? Or would he get $10?

@BradC Supposedly they'd get $10

@Wipqozn thanks.

But essentially this just contributes to the toxic thing that is tipping culture, where companies don't need to pay their workers a living wage. Or at all.
But if you do use these services, tip cash.

4:27 PM
@Wipqozn I concur

4:44 PM
@TimStone I must now go and live in the special hell reserved for people who repose things.
@TimStone, I shall leave you my diamond. Please use it to commit double mod abuse.

@Wipqozn Excellent

@Wipqozn You are truly a layabout.

user15026
5:00 PM
@puzzlepiece87 This took me a second and then I giggled

@Ash :)

@BradC The way it works is that DoorDash guarantees a minimum "tip". If the customer's tip covers that minimum, then they just get that tip. If it doesn't, Doordash makes up the diference

@Yuuki @Ash But I don't want to live that way / reading into every word you say

which in practice means that tips paid in the app on doordash go directly to the company
rather than going on top of base pay

"ICYMI, here's me being dumb as hell, thanks"

ted cruz demanding that the FBI subpoena the president and ceo of antifa

7:16 PM
@TimStone Hard to launch a RICO investigation when the organized crime you're targeting is neither organized nor criminal.

@Unionhawk "ceo of antifa" *stares off into the distance*

the king of antifa

I'm just waiting for antifa to file their annual earnings report so I know whether to sell my stock or not.

2 hours later…
10:24 PM
Yeah no
Don't click that actually
Get the fuck out of here with this transphobic bullshit thanks

user15026
I've clicked, and honestly, I don't really trust that site as an accurate reporting of anything, just at first glance.

Yeah please don't share stories from that site again please, @GnomeSlice. It's opening sentence makes it clear it's transphobic, and the articles along the side make it clear it has an anti-trans gender. Thanks.

10:40 PM
Oh sorry
I didn't notice I guess
Never heard of them before either
Didn't see related on mobile either

Yeah, this is one of those situations where, yes, the cishets™ don't have a monopoly on being horrible people, but on the other hand all of the reporting on this is coming from sources that make it clear they see all trans people as deviant sex criminals

Also, think about whether it would have been posted if they weren't trans, that'll tell you if it's news

Yeah I mean child predators get posted either way

Which really makes me question its truthfulness!

@GnomeSlice Do they? Every one?

10:42 PM
I think that's the person who sued like 14 waxologists for refusing to work on male genitalia
@Ronan idk? Probably not
I read the entire thing too I guess I just didn't pick up on the undertones. Sorry everyone
I'm not a transphobe

Just as a pro tip if anyone opens by calling a trans woman a "biological male", close the tab immediately.
This has been pro tips with uni

@Unionhawk Yeah that's the opening sentence I was referring to.

not to be confused with lifehacks don't write me in on that election

@Unionhawk but getting a beta diamond is the best Lifehack at all

@Unionhawk Too late you're mod now

10:48 PM
The legal case has a lot of human rights implications
Is that one okay? I think it's more neutral
No Cw either
Meh idk it's not important enough to get in trouble over
I'm interested in what happens legally speaking though. Those people aren't even trained to perform that treatment

Yelling about "biological males" and about how trans rights are a slippery slope to the complete exlusion of women from sports

user15026
If you're going to discuss it, leave people some sort of info about what you mean

Repeatedly cites the same site from earlier

user15026
Otherwise there's no point as people can't follow along.

Complaints about "virtue signaling"
Yeah, I don't think that's any more reputable than the first site you linked, really obviously so if you had read the article.

10:51 PM
I just don't think those women should be forced to touch a penis they don't want to
@ToxicFrog wow you read really fast

I do, but I also didn't read the entire article.

I did
It's a legal issue I dont recall having heard about before

As it happens, I agree, and I think "our procedures aren't designed for, nor are any of us trained for, that anatomy" should be a valid defence in this case.

I was wondering what you guys thought about it but I really don't want to offend anybody or get in shit or have everyone think I'm a phobe so just forget about it

I just also think that sites that put their transphobia front and centre are not reliable sources of information about ongoing legal cases around trans rights or criminal allegations around public transfolk.

user15026
10:56 PM
Can we maybe find another link that does elucidate the issue without the bad content, or otherwise explain the issue for those who are not clicking said links because they don't have access to them?

> "In an era where voters are willingly trading their political freedoms in exchange for promises of strong economic performance to strongman figures like Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin or Recep Tayyip Erdogan, it's important to understand whether autocratic leaders do deliver economic growth," Skali said.

> "Our empirical results show no evidence that autocratic leaders are successful at delivering economic growth in any systematic way."

> Autocrats whose countries experienced larger than average economic growth were found only as frequently as you would predict based on chance alone.

@Ash I tried to find one and couldn't, which deepens my suspicion

Maybe those sites just don't want to report on it
Idk anyway

@Yuuki i think you're thinking about what he said about defeating ISIS
22 hours ago, by Memor-X
@MadScientist he said this about ISIS. ISIS hasn't been defeated, only there caliphate
@BradC worst case scenario the order would reach a solider who's fully supportive of Trump (one of his core base who would still believe in Trump even if saw him giving a Boris Johnson to Putin or Kim Jong Un) does it without a second thought
yesterday, by Memor-X
consider now how we've been getting to making it easier to pay with credit cards and now paying with just our phones. when you "tip" with a credit card or your card stored on your phone, your not sipping the server any more, you're tipping the establishment which means that tip goes into the day's normal takings
made even worse by dining apps which you tip through them
will get to a point where apps like DoorDash, UberEats and ManuLog will set the norm for tipping via App and eating establishments will get all their customers who order their meals via a phone while at the table and tip though it giving you no option to give the person your tipping in hand cash
ofcause this all stems from the whole tipping thing. Australia generally doesn't do it because our minimum wage is much higher if i recall
@Stormblessed "self-help author" - i think this explains it

user15026
11:15 PM
@Memor-X I believe in general most Australia wages are higher

user15026
(Just from talking to a handful of friends etc that live there)

@Wipqozn i suppose Venezuela is out modern day current example
@Ash i think so too however i have been of the belief that it's because of the minimum wage and that when it rises, up to a certain level employees average wage increase as well
so if the US's minimum wage was to rise there's be alot of jobs getting wage rises and not just those on the line

user15026
Theoretically, yes

@Unionhawk me?
Oh the transcript didn’t show there are deleted messages between what you said and what I said
What was the site?

> George Calombaris, Matt Preston, and Gary Mehigan are all departing the show after 11 years, with the network saying it was unable to reach a commercial agreement with the trio ‘despite months of negotiation’.

It follows Ten coming under pressure to sack Calombaris after he was was fined for underpaying staff at his Melbourne restaurants.
always thought that the constants who didn't win were being used as un-piad labor anyway when they work in George's restaurants
@Stormblessed no @GnomeSlice
one sec

11:26 PM
Oh was it Lifehacker? (guessing from “not to be confused lifehacks”)

user15026
@Stormblessed No.

Yeah that’d be weird

@Stormblessed ^

@Memor-X yeah the transcript didn’t show that, which is how I saw that (I clicked on a reply to one of my messages
Your reply

user15026
@Stormblessed It was a play on "pro tips" being mixed up with the idea of lifehacks I guess

11:29 PM
Well good day, gonna continue The Last of Us, which I’ve started

it was something like actualhumanfemale dot website or something who cares

Vancouver Public Library told it can’t participate in next month’s Pride Parade citynews1130.com/2019/07/23/…
> The Pride Society says the Vancouver Public Library is no longer permitted to take part because it allowed transphobic and anti-sex worker speaker book a space in January.
I GIVE UP
Tldr library has done some good stuff but also makes trans folks feel unsafe so they're out this year, but pride organizers hope they do a better job by next year

user15026
I hope they learn from this.

@Ash According to the article, the pride organizers have said the library "has engaged in creating a trans-inclusion strategy and made a lot of strides in changes to how they do things, policies and procedures". So the desire to be good is there. Hopefully they stop giving bigotry a space.

user15026
Yeah, I saw that bit, so I am just hoping that they keep that momentum and yeah, stop giving bigotry room to speak.

Yup. Deplatforming bigotry is the most effective tool against it.
I mean look at milo whatever his last name was. You barely hear anything about him anymore, ever since he got kicked off Twitter and Breitbart. Deplatforming works.
I mean heck, not giving people a platform is one of the ways minorities were oppressed for ages now. So obviously it works.
