Very confused why people think this shitty DoorDash arrangement is fraud as opposed to behavior we explicitly allow by way of the tipped wage system and letting companies to treat employees like contractors
Anyway always pay tips in cash
Also abolish tipped wages in favour of paying people fairly

@TimStone actually with the way things are going both of those are going to be happening, but for a good thing
consider now how we've been getting to making it easier to pay with credit cards and now paying with just our phones. when you "tip" with a credit card or your card stored on your phone, your not sipping the server any more, you're tipping the establishment which means that tip goes into the day's normal takings
not unless places fix up a proper tipping system for tap and go or cardless transactions which can you really see higher ups wanting to do then when they could take all the tips for their own?

So something I didn't know: apparently Seven of Nine (or rather, her actress) was directly responsible for Obama's election as Illinois state senator, and thus his rise to popularity and his presidency. Apparently she had a nasty divorce related to sexual deviancy requests from her Republican husband, and the record related to that divorce were unsealed right during the latter's campaign against Obama in 2004.

@Nzall i take it her husband at the time was Obama's opponent? or was it just that her husband was a Republican that soured the Republican vote in Illinois?

@Memor-X The husband was the opponent
Jack Ryan
And he had to drop out of the race under great Republican pressure, and they couldn't get a new candidate quickly enough

@TimStone ah yes the elusive 6th stage of grief, racism

3:38 PM
> Denial - "I'm not racist, you are."
> Anger - "I wouldn't be racist if brown people didn't <racist things>."
> Bargaining - "If we make America great again, I'll stop being racist."
> Depression - "My friends all left me because I'm an angry racist."
> Acceptance - "I can just find new friends on Reddit."

3:48 PM
@Yuuki I laughed and then cried at that last one

4:23 PM
that reminded me of this thing I saw couple days ago

Iran captures 'CIA operatives'
not sure which is worse: catching real spies or innocent people

Great idea actually
Everyone who sees this message, send a message to your city council, mayor, whoever. Try to convince them to declare a climate emergency, because this is literally an existential threat.

@Nik3141 Given that petrochemicals are also carbon storage and we release CO2 as part of the plastic production process, how would this be any different?

looks at Twitter I see the President is wading his way into the middle of checks notes The Indian-Pakistan dispute over Kashmir, my god

Oh boy

6:37 PM
@TimStone So we're going from a potential two-sided nuclear war to a potential three-sided nuclear war?

@Yuuki I don't know, but I trust Bloomberg's reporting enough to trust their diagram showing the sawdust releasing less (not zero) CO2

@Nik3141 "I trust Bloomberg's reporting" - a rather bold take these days to be honest

It's right in the sense that drilling requires power which generally means burning fuel and thus releasing carbon dioxide. And they're also right in that planting trees sequesters carbon dioxide. But it's a bit disingenuous to say that the two processes are equivalent.

@Yuuki 4 sided?

Planting trees is not the same as drilling for petrochemicals. Cutting trees is similar to drilling for petrochemicals.

6:42 PM
@MBraedley A natural 20.

And cutting trees, especially on a large enough scale to provide materials for plastics production, would require mechanization which will in turn consume power and thus fuel.
It could be argued that large-scale deforestation for plastics materials might produce less carbon dioxide waste than drilling but I'm not sure we need more deforestation than we already have.

The idea (from the article) is that the company is using waste sawdust, which doesn't require any other extra energy expenditure to generate.
So instead of spending energy on drilling, which makes petroleum which is pretty bad for the environment, it uses a material which is technically already there
I agree that transitioning to cutting down trees just for sawdust for plastic is a bad idea
I'm Indian and the stupidest thing ever is the India-Pakistan thing, and the worst possible idea is for the US to get involved in any way other than funding the UN, which has a delegation for trying to get things to cool down at the border

lmao
It checks out because it's the dumbest reason
Imagine being Pence and thinking that you have a shot at the White House after this and thus need to cover your political bases
But also imagine not realising any of this ahead of time and only figuring it out last minute and instead of brushing it off since who the hell cares you're like "Woah there better cancel the whole trip"

8:34 PM
Imagine being the person that potentially compromises an ongoing investigation so that pence can avoid a bad photo op

@TimStone imagine not knowing about any professional runners
is this the best fox could find when searching for the white men that assumed that they could get a point on serena williams?

@GodEmperorDune Imagine not knowing high schools still have track & field programs, even
But very confused why they booked him when they could have also just not done that
It's not even like he's a Diamond & Silk, I just don't understand
Come for the "the 5Geeeee", stay for the "Silicone Silicon Valley"

8:53 PM
@TimStone this is the age of computer

9:16 PM
> “We’re like policemen. We’re not fighting a war. If we wanted to fight a war in Afghanistan and win it, I could win that war in a week,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office during a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. “I just don’t want to kill 10 million people.”
> “I have plans on Afghanistan that if I wanted to win that war, Afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth. It would be gone, it would be over literally in 10 days.”
Are you scared yet?

It's totally fine, he says he doesn't want to do it! nervous laughter
But also extremely on brand that he's saying this next to the Pakistani PM, while the Taliban have survived in no small part by just going to Pakistan for a bit
Someone on Twitter asked if he knew we weren't fighting the Afghan government and 🤷‍♂️

2 hours later…
11:10 PM
Apparently it's expected Boris Johnson will be named the next prime minister. What even the fuck is this timeline.
It's like the British and US governments are competing in a "World's Dumbest Government" contest.

11:43 PM
@Wipqozn at we get some good news, Mike the Cameraman got a vote by one of the Tories who showed his voting paper and how he wrote Mike the Cameraman at the bottom with a box and crossed that
sure Mike's not going to get chosen but it's one vote that wasn't for the lesser of 2 evils
(tldr; on The Last Leg Adam had people try to recognize who was running for the leadership position and threw in some fakes including his cameraman. it's been a running gag that Mike is a contender)
@TimStone he probably wants who ever wins to build a hotel in his name with the words "THANK YOU DONALD TRUMP" in giant letters on the front
@TimStone "Loagn Paul addresses outage of "Suicide Forest" Video" wait, this is recent is it? he already addressed it didn't he with that oh i feel bad for people seeing me being my normal obnoxious dick self in japan suicide awareness tour
