@TimStone how much of it is earmarked for the puerto rico grift companies?

@TimStone yes and we should ignore war crimes because everyone was doing them

3:36 AM
> YouTube, to its credit, said it has been working nonstop on this issue since a similar issue was first reported in February.
I knew that story looked familiar
In my opinion what makes this case tricky is that the videos themselves are not the problem. What's problematic is the thoughts of the majority of the people watching the videos, and how the view count and recommendation list reveal those thoughts to other people
There's also this trend where people look at a situation like this and say "This is bad, and in [however much time] this hasn't been solved to my satisfaction, and the people who work on it are smart, so clearly they're doing it on purpose or don't care", and this always comes from people who don't really understand the system they're commenting on.
You don't know how this stuff works, or what they've tried to do to fix it, or anything, and it's incredibly insulting to immediately jump to "Therefore they support pedophiles"

@GodEmperorDune Honestly, my big shock from this story is that Youtube has softcore porn to begin with. Or are they talking about stuff like instructionals for pubic shaving?

@murgatroid99 There is some issue with the fact YouTube just isn't interested in not recommending the videos though, because it thinks that is somehow harmful? There seems to be an implicit belief all users are "creators" and therefore want the exposure but I'm not sure that's always in everyone's best interests, or even true
YouTube of course has tools to that end but they require action by the user and users are bad at doing things

11:31 AM
don't they literally employ tools to disable comments here?
how much more would "don't use this in an up next autoplay deal" be

@Unionhawk are you calling murgatroid a tool?

No I'm calling "we are disabling comments on these sorts of videos" what
That's a thing YouTube did right I'm not making that up?

I don't know

Iirc videos featuring children have comments turned off as of a couple months ago for this reason
And by "this reason" I mean "motherboard or someone ran a story about it" obv
:)

Obviously
Because companies being pro-active to protect vulnerable groups is a rarity

11:47 AM
@Unionhawk Yeah, that's what I was saying, they were going to do it but then decided not to because what if your video of children didn't get exposure?
(per the thread)
And like, what if indeed?

@murgatroid99 Yeah, plenty of people who don't understand that Youtube simply CANNOT hire enough people to manually verify each video. Youtube gets something like 6 hours of video every second. If you want that verified by human moderators doing an 8 hour work day 5/7 days per week, that's over 90,000 people. The entire Alphabet group currently employs around 72,000 people

Police don't have any indication currently it was related to his vocal pro-refugee rights stance, but he was shot in the head at close range, which looks assassination-y

12:10 PM
@TimStone Keep Trump away or he might grab him

12:28 PM
@MadScientist Looks like it might not be OLED? But otherwise still very impressive, looking now at the details, so the price point is definitely reasonable for the target market. The price for the stand though is offensive, I don't even know why they made it, heh
I'm not sure why anyone would pick it over any other mounting option

1 hour later…
1:39 PM
@TimStone the police have release very few details so far, there's really not much known right now

1:58 PM
Jesus H Christ how do you make Twitter onebox?

you can't
because it is broken

twi pls

@fredley ummmm, does this translate to queeny treating Trump like a commoner because of how he acted last time they met?

@Memor-X It's all nonsense, but that's the joke yes

2:03 PM
See also Ivanka and Bolton getting booed, and Kilmeade going to bat for Ivanka for no particular reason because that's Definitely Not Creepy

@Memor-X No, it's to do with the shade being thrown on Trump

yas queen xd

It's a full state visit, with some rather pointed subtleties:
* Trump only writes in sharpie, Queen gave him a pen as a present
* She also gave him a book on the history of WWII written by Churchill
* She served him possibly some of the best wine in the World (he's teetotal)
* She's been wearing brooches given to her by the Obamas, etc. (see article)
* No red carpet welcome
* No stay in Buckingham Palace
* No carriage ride down the Mall
* She wore gloves to shake his hand
etc. etc.
Little things he won't notice at all

Oh wow bare-shoulders priest is really going all in on what I'm now coining Jackass June

Everybody knows that meltdown may lasts 6 months

2:13 PM
@TimStone to be fair, all the creeps come out for Ivanka. remember Rudy Giuliani

> What’s the difference between the FBI’s surveillance of Carter Page and Martin Luther King? asks @wjmcgurn
Almost choked on my damn coffee
Absolutely not WSJ

2:28 PM
@TimStone Besides the racism?

Also like, the entirety of the FISA process
Which was created specifically because Nixon was using the DoJ against activists
Minor details

fucked up that the FBI told Carter Page to kill himself

I just can't believe how many people are willing to go to bat for Carter Page considering he's checks notes Carter Page, ffs
He might as well have been walking around with a sandwich board that said "Will do crimes, for free"

didn't The Government respond to an amicus he filed like "yeah, we don't normally do this because we think that everyone should have some say, but we don't think he has anything valuable to say here."

I forget

2:35 PM
it was either The Government or a judge

> Other Luke is, according to The Bachelorette, a political consultant, which made me wonder: What political party is he a consultant for? After tonight’s episode, I think I have a good guess.

Other Luke’s opponent is Luke—a huge, self-important stupid jerk with dumb hair who seems to have terrible policies on basically everything. Other Luke’s job should be pretty easy: convince Hannah of what everybody else can see so obviously, which is that Luke is a big dumb idiot who sucks in every way.
Lol, love that implication

2:56 PM
> Other Luke’s opponent is Luke—a huge, self-important stupid jerk with dumb hair who seems to have terrible policies on basically everything and has really small hands.
FTFY

2 hours later…
4:47 PM
So naturally he just met with Trump

5:46 PM
Biden has told reporters if the administration continues to stonewall “I think they have no alternative but to move to an impeachment proceeding”
Which, lol, buddy

1 hour later…
I had, incidentally, but I am curious if anyone will ever solve the banking issue that prevents it from being practical now
A 20% fuel savings is nothing to scoff at
> Trump considering declaring second national emergency to impose Mexico tariffs
The border, now…emergencier?

7:44 PM
The SRO who was criticized for a failure to act in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting has been arrested on charges of child neglect and perjury
While I do think he didn't do what he should have done I'm not sure this is an effective remedy especially in light of the state just…not doing anything to prevent these situations

What's the perjury charge for?
Also, isn't it settled law that police officers do not have a duty of care?

8:11 PM
yes

8:27 PM
@Yuuki I'm not sure, I do think he lied about some of his actions? But generally not sure about how legally sound this case is

Well, given case law, I'm thinking the neglect charge isn't going to fly but there might be something to the perjury charge.

It's possible that they're hinging the neglect charge on his instructions to the responding officers to stay away from the building
Given that it's the only felony charge (the perjury is a misdemeanour, as are the negligence charges), I guess they feel they can make it work?
Also…apparently we've halted cruises to Cuba?
lmfao, call him and tell him no Ted jfc

9:57 PM
The "autistic man" in this story used to work here with me. I never asked him for a lot of details about what had happened to him but this is beyond disgusting
I hope she gets "dangerous offender"
She's sorry she got caught

Q: How Can I Beat Up a Bicycle With My Bare Hands?

GnomeSliceA friend of mine recently told me about a place he went for an interview where they apparently make a sport out of trashing locked up bicycles in the area. How the hell is this even possible? Do you just pull on it until it breaks? Do you need tools? And perhaps most importantly - should I ...

@Unionhawk this is funny, but also wtf is this article/website

user15026
@GnomeSlice This is terrible.

This was written by a very very angry person
@Ash abhorrent. He's lucky he survived. And he seemed like a pretty well spirited person when I knew him, which was after all this. I feel horrible for his journey through the courts

user15026
Agreed.

She's just sorry she got caught
Probably a psychopath

@MadScientist Apparently, no

10:16 PM
Which is sad but imo not an excuse to escape justice

10:27 PM
@GnomeSlice lol ok dude
and the website is splinter, a member of the gizmodo media group

That explains it
@Unionhawk do you disagree lol

yes
I literally have no idea what, ok you know what

Funny shit though
I particularly like the bit at the bottom
> maybe tried to have a motorbike arrested
@Unionhawk maybe it's just not obvious to you because you are also an angry person

user15026
Can we....not get into personal judgements here

what is that supposed to mean

10:34 PM
I literally thought it was satire the first time I read it
I'm sure it's true but what kind of reporting is that
Disclaimer, I have no idea who anybody in that story is
That seems like an outlet that should be banned for being terrible

user15026
It's....not great.

Unless you also think Ryan Grim is a very angry person that should be banned idk
I'm sorry, I shouldn't let myself get baited like that. I'm just frustrated.

user15026
In general, try for news sources that aren't obviously biased, same as we expect of others.

@puzzlepiece87 but then again, is it really Other Luke's fault that Hannah is falling for a huge, self-important stupid jerk with dumb hair who seems to have terrible policies on basically everything and sucks in every way when Hannah actually wants the stupid jerk?

@Unionhawk This is much more respectable reporting imo
And it doesn't say "Men are too emotional and can’t be trusted with political office." so that's also good.
Anyone who writes that in an informative article has an agenda, regardless of whether you think it's a joke or not
