Brexit suddenly gets real as emergency Cobra committee takes charge of No Deal preparations cbc.ca/news/thenational/…
> And Theresa May's government fears that the situation could get much grimmer, with cross-Channel trade delays leading to food shortages, rationing, and a drop in livestock production as feed crops get diverted to hungry Britons

12:36 AM
@Wipqozn there was footage of a florist in an tinterview explaining that on Last Week Tonight a few weeks ago saying how the delays could cause his fresh flower to die off......he voted for Brexit too and didn't think how it would affect him

@stevek8n9 Hi Steve, like previously stated, Dunkin Donuts is responsible for opening the doors in the morning at Hamilton station. NJT has spoken to the vendor multiple times. If you would like to file a formal complaint, use the link below. -TB https://njtransit.secure.force.com/customerservice/ContactUs
lol what excuse me?
An indirect bit of news that this public transit train station is in fact open entirely contingent on the whims of an actual Dunkin Donuts

1:44 AM
@TimStone I can understand merchants having a key, but don't these stations have staff at them?

Apparently not really, it has a janitor and ticket office staff but the ticket office opens sometime after the Dunkin Donuts opens

@NJTRANSIT @stevek8n9 Someone please help me budget, my trains are dying $15 station staff $0 swively bridge choke point with a 30mph effective speed limit $3500000 make-work for political appointees $10000 switches $10000 engineers Thank you

Hi guys,
I'm looking for any AM4 motherboard that would have x16 ports running at x8 (> 32 lanes and four x16 physical ports to assign).
pcie
are there any options.?

2:47 AM
@GreenTree I would suggest first and foremost that you head to Gaming's main room which will be more equipped to help you
There aren't a whole lot of people online, but at least this query is kind of within the wheelhouse there

@Unionhawk ok, thanks.!

Meet the Canadian who took on rental giant Airbnb — and won
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/airbnb-last-minute-cancellations-marketplace-1.5065309
> Jackel's credit was $92 — 10 per cent of his original deposit of $920.
> Feeling stressed and in need of a place to stay, Jackel booked what he said was the only suitable alternative on such short notice: Another Airbnb unit at nearly six times his original budget — about $7,400.
> Then just a few hours after Marketplace reached out to Airbnb to inquire about Jackel's experience, he received a message from a 10th Airbnb representative, who agreed to refund the full difference between what Jackel had already paid for original listing and the cost of the new listing — about $6,400.
> But a last-minute cancellation left Jackel scrambling during the busy winter holiday season, and the Alberta man said he had no choice but to book much more expensive accommodations — at more than $6,000 over his original budget.

The below excerpt from Wikipedia, if true, is another indication that the Steele Dossier about Russia is a phony work of political opposition research. Comey never bothered to check when Steele was last in Russia. So where was it written and who wrote it? We demand answers!

4:03 PM
@TimStone Ah $55,000 in penalties, very stiff, I'm sure that will deter future offenses.
I'm paywall blocked but how many thousands in back pay did they attempt to steal?

@TimStone rubs head Seriously?

@puzzlepiece87 It's not immediately clear to me. The program received $267,000 in taxpayer money over two years
When they did pay people they 1099'ed them, and many were not familiar with the implications of that

> their health and safety was jeopardized as they were assigned to handle asbestos without proper protective equipment or training.
Ah great
> During weeks three to six, we were paid for only two days each week. During weeks seven to 10, we were paid for three days of project work, and then afterwards for five days per week. But this whole time we were working nearly every day.
> Interfaith guaranteed the participants a year of work after the program but I don’t think that anyone received that.

@TimStone Hey, at least I can point to... Rudy Giuliani? when my teachers dock points for citing Wikipedia.
Well, if I was back in school.

@TimStone Just found $305,000 more
> New Castle County Council approved $305,000 in grants for Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware despite a Department of Labor investigation into the nonprofit.
So yes, I'm sure this $55,000 penalty will really deter people from this kind of ex-convict exploitation in the future
Haven't found the extent of the backpay yet.
But that wasn't even the full extent of the damage to the people in the program due to the lies.
Ugh, it gets worse and worse.
They were ignoring court orders and arguing they weren't even liable under fraud acts.
Penalty too small!
Put them out of business.

@TimStone This is so fucked up

user15026
@TimStone Damn :(

8 years seems appropriate, given Canadian sentencing rules (namely serving concurrent sentences instead of consecutive sentences).

user15026
"At the time of the crash, training for Canada's 300,000 semi truck drivers had been optional everywhere except Ontario.

Broncos parents, families of other victims, academics, and drivers themselves petitioned and pushed for change. Training became mandatory in Saskatchewan last week, and will become mandatory across Canada in 2020."

user15026
I didn't realize it wasn't mandatory everywhere, I am so used to it here

@Ash It just makes me so unbelievably angry. I know that wishing horrible things on people is not great but I honestly do not feel like there is any fate so terrible that Tucker doesn't deserve it. He is just a disgusting human being :/

5:18 PM
@Ash Yeah that's messed up

user15026
@TimStone His ability to just spout terrible monstrous things out of his face hole is just...no thank you

user15026
@Wipqozn Agreed.

@Ash That's weird... there are some pretty stringent requirements in the united states
trucks over a certain weight or passenger count need a special license, and you need special add-ons for certain types

user15026
Licencing requirements are not the same as training requirements though

user15026
Like Canada has various licencsing levels for various truck types

user15026
5:21 PM
but that doesn't (apparently) mean that that licensing has any expected training component

this is true, there are some testing requirements for add ons but I can't tell what the base testing is

user15026
A lot of the time it's like getting your graduated car licence in terms of testing except bigger trucks - I mean here there's no expectation of trainign for the graduated licensing, you jsut gotta be abel to pass the test

user15026
so if you can manage well enough to pass the testing, boom, there you go.

user15026
(Except in Ontario, we have specific training for truck drivers)

(in Ohio, the typical process for a class D Operator's license is a temporary permit, 24 hours of classroom, a certain number of hours driving training, and testing, so I had assumed it was the same except you have to do it in a truck but idk)
(there may be a different process for people who are already 18 idk)

It was announced today by the U.S. Treasury that additional large scale Sanctions would be added to those already existing Sanctions on North Korea. I have today ordered the withdrawal of those additional Sanctions!

…k

yeah it looks like a CDL doesn't have any "you have to do Truck School" requirement?
that's
hm
but I mean it's not like you could just roll up and get a commercial learner's permit and then pass the test immediately without doing some road time on the learner's permit
like, physically speaking
hopefully
I'm rationalizing this because my brain requires it

user15026
Okay, I was just about to ask if that was a "I know you can't just show up and do the test and go have a big truck" or a "I hope you can't because that's horrifying"

I mean, you've got to learn somehow

Shaq is joining Papa John's board of directors https://cnn.it/2FuLWuy

:ok:

🤷‍♂️
Shaq now owns: - 9 Papa Johns restaurants - A Krispy Kreme franchise - 27 Five Guys franchises - Big Chicken fried chicken restaurant
Huh, I did not know this about Shaq

user15026
5:36 PM
@TimStone Huh, wow, that's....not what I expected

@Ash So you don't actually need a Class 1 license (in Nova Scotia) to drive an 18-wheeler without a trailer (as long as the truck is less than 14 tonnes), AFAIK. The Class 5 (general purpose) license is sufficiently vague as to what it allows, other than weight and number of passengers.

what is the weight limit?
10,000 kg?

14,000 kg
a.k.a. 14 tonnes

that's, pretty heavy, certain heavy trucks would qualify as under that yeah
in the united states, class B is 26,000 lbs towing no more than 10,000 lbs (class A covers higher than that)

6:32 PM
@TimStone Honestly, this is exactly what I would expect out of Shaq.

@Yuuki Likewise.

Like, if you told me that Shaq owned a number of franchise restaurants, I would guess Five Guys over, say, Edible Arrangements.

user15026
@Yuuki This is true, I just more didn't expect any restaurants at all

@Ash I think franchise restaurants are a popular investment choice among athletes.
Particularly in basketball, IIRC.

user15026
I guess I just never thought about who was doing the behind the scenes money for these things :)

6:44 PM
@Yuuki @Ash Yes this, franchise restaurants are very popular among athletes.
Also, their payback periods are impressive, usually only 5 years.
Especially if you work them yourself instead of paying a management company.

user15026
I know nothing about investing in things, honestly

Most of what I've heard about investing is index funds, index funds, and index funds.

@Ash Emergency fund > credit card debt > employer matching retirement funds > low interest debt > mutual funds
@Yuuki Exactly right.
Follow the above from left to right and you're doing it at least 90% right.
(Mutual funds are the same as index funds)

user15026
7:00 PM
@puzzlepiece87 This is how I do, minus the third one which isn't an option

user15026
(I have retirement stuff, but it's not employer matched, it's mutual fund type stuff)

@puzzlepiece87 So what you're saying is that I shouldn't pay off my credit card bill until it turns into debt?
:P

@Yuuki Consider it debt as soon as it's posted
Doesn't need to be accruing interest to be debt.

BREAKING: The House Judiciary Committee is told to expect notification by 5pm that the Mueller report has been delivered to Barr
Ten minutes for the thing to happen seems like instead of saying it would happen it should have just happened

@TimStone there's been so much wrong speculation about the Mueller report that I'll wait until there is something official

Right?
lmao
House Judiciary source tells me they’ve been told to expect something from DOJ at 5 pm but didn’t know if it’s notice of Mueller being finished.
Special counsel Robert Mueller has finished his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Mueller’s confidential report has been delivered to Attorney General William Barr, the Justice Department announced Friday.

I still expect this to turn out to be nothing again
my favorite theory is that there will be a report in the reasonably near future, but not necessarily the report and Mueller continues afterwards
hmm, looks like the report is real this time, NY Times is reporting it as well

9:14 PM
@Yuuki Hole found in theory :P
@Ash Sounds like you're in smart shape. Employer-matched retirement funds are in the middle there because it's not often a person can get that much free money. Unless a person has a retirement funding option that exceeds 5% annual returns, I'd probably put retirement funding behind low interest debt unless that person is worried about contribution limits in the future. The reason why is that (in the US) we are all prone to having potential money emergencies for ...
... reasons outside of our control and the penalties for dipping into retirement accounts mean it could have been smarter to keep that money on hand by focusing on being debt-free first.

NOW: Here is the letter that AG Barr submitted to Congress today about the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller's report https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetillman/robert-mueller-report-trump-campaign-russia
Anyway this will likely not move the needle in any fashion but I'm sure Trump will have a fun tweetstorm this weekend so there's that

user15026
9:39 PM
@puzzlepiece87 nods I mean I still have a reasonable pile of debt I am working on, but I tried to kinda set myself up as good as possible. Mind you this will be easier when World and I aren't paying for two separate households. (impatient bouncing)

Well, that’s bad. @METROHouston
Breaking: Mueller is not recommending any further indictments, says a Sr. Justice Department official.
Booooooooo

@TimStone We could only hope he'd nail Trump.

I mean I didn't expect that but there's plenty of people left who could go to jail!
Guess they'll just have to be indicted for all the other crimes, alas
Can't wait for the link to Mueller's SoundCloud tho

@TimStone Hah, like that's the worst Metro accident this year.
Or this month.
Or perhaps even this week.

oh wait f--k, the TSA program

10:25 PM
@Frank I am still hoping that we'll get something with Trump Jr. reporting to Dad about the Russia Trump Tower meeting out of this, but only from a personal enjoyment standpoint, not in a makes any difference way.

Sources say Trump did not withdraw the North Korea sanctions from Thursday, instead he’s canceling a future round of unannounced large scale sanctions expected for next week. It was a major communications failure as a result of his ambiguous tweet
Yeah there's literally no chance of me believing that, lol
