not sure where I'd be without the New York Post to read everyday https://nypost.com/2018/12/12/donald-trump-jr-my-dad-once-regifted-me-something-i-gave-him/
It's literally the year after and Trump tries to challenge Jr until he's like "I was the one who got it for you" and the President is definitely Old

@TimStone apparently the item in question was a monogrammed shirt
Which, I mean

@TimStone this is literally whom among us tho
@Unionhawk ok that is weird

@GodEmperorDune same initials though so it works
Extremely cool guy move imo

12:17 AM
@Unionhawk lol, there's no way they're the same size

@TimStone no

.@FLOTUS Melania will be interviewed by @SeanHannity tonight on @FoxNews at 9:00pmE!
sets TV on fire

12:50 AM
@Unionhawk sure, except who sees a shirt with a monogram on it and goes "yes i must've bought this for someone else"

Whew dat thread

lol that sociopath

1:34 AM
I like that he linked daily caller to support his claim that propublica is a bunch of commies

@Unionhawk who runs daily caller again?

@GodEmperorDune caller is Tucker, wire is shapiro

@Unionhawk thanks

I got mail confused with mirror and it reminded me of Piers Morgan saying he should be Chief of Staff

@Unionhawk where is the lie tho

That's why I determined it ok to post
because it has a correct analysis

@TimStone veinssssssssssssssss

4:11 AM
Speaking of
I’ve now heard from two different sources that @newtgingrich (who was at the White House today) is currently topping the list for the next @realDonaldTrump administration White House Chief of Staff.

@GodEmperorDune oh please that's scapegoating the fact that their employees could inject code into production without approval

@Memor-X separation of duties and automated systems block that kind of stuff

if an employee can't say why they made a certain change then it would rejected, the employee complied with the law anyway even though the back door isn't committed to release

@Memor-X i imagine they would hide it in a real change

@GodEmperorDune well i'm just going by my own work and that doesn't work
we have it that all check ins must have a TFS task or provide an override reason. if it's not approved we are told to roll it back
every month there is a meeting to review what's been checked in to be promoted to pre-prod environments and another every quarter for production release
sure, we're not working on encrypted messaging but it's a system with lots of eyes and little way for people to sneak stuff in

4:22 AM
i think that depends on the size of the codebase, a monthly meeting to review commits where i work would take longer than a month to go through
there is a LOT of code

@GodEmperorDune well commits are reviewed by the testers, the monthly/quarterly meets are more just "what tasks are with these change-sets and were they approved"

@Memor-X yeah we have mandatory peer reviews and automated code scanning and whatnot

A planned stretch of new wall in South Texas may be the first to be built under the Trump administration. It’s likely to be opposed by landowners, a wildlife refuge — and SpaceX. https://nyti.ms/2RUnzKh

Sure, why not, drag Elon into this it definitely needed to be more dumb
A champion finch with a good pedigree and a strong chirping record can sell for as much as $10,000. And that has made finch smuggling a big business. https://nyti.ms/2RTEhJV
I understand that sentence uses words that make sense but I'm not sold 🤔

5:03 AM
@TimStone how about a finch for $9,999.99?

5:24 AM
Sean Hannity deleting hundreds of tweets. I’m starting to get that old rats/sinking ship feeling again.
He’s running and/or going to be chief of staff

@GodEmperorDune and yet i bet you someone, somewhere, has an archive of everything. that or Wayback Machine
it's just suppressing these people think that deleting tweets/facebook posts/etc means that no one will see them when generally it's the opposite. by deleting it someone is going to get the archive of it and even more people are going to see it

Yeah, someone's going to run something that will pick out of the archive all the deleted tweets and publish them

@Memor-X yepppppp

direct action works, yall

@GodEmperorDune yeh but would it have been the same outcome if it was a black person playing that song? would it have even been a ticket or "that song is a threat to my life, lethal action authorized"

@Memor-X of course it would've been a worse outcome for the black person
this was a white ally using their privilege

I often stated, “One way or the other, Mexico is going to pay for the Wall.” This has never changed. Our new deal with Mexico (and Canada), the USMCA, is so much better than the old, very costly & anti-USA NAFTA deal, that just by the money we save, MEXICO IS PAYING FOR THE WALL!
Just incredible how brokenly his brain works

3:44 PM
@Memor-X I would still have something auto-delete everything I post on the internet after month if I could. At least make researchers do the work.
@GodEmperorDune Direct action does work but I wouldn't call zero consequences for the officer working.

@Kevin Heh, that's been going on pretty much since the beginning

@Yuuki ^ our series on personal inadequacy continues

@puzzlepiece87 I suppose in the context of history, that makes a lot of sense. If pregnancy made women completely helpless, we never would've made it out of the Pleistocene.

@Yuuki Agreed

> The Atlantic: America Needs to Restore Dignity of Work by Marco Rubio

This comment puts it best, I think:
> I call it perseverance porn. Isn't it really great when people have to go to great lengths and sacrifice a lot to overcome a single obstacle in life that shouldn't even still be an obstacle?
>
> "Man with no legs scrapes 50 miles a day back and forth to a pond to gather clean pondwater for his sick immobile wife after manufacturing compaies poisoned all groundwater in his town and then left, leaving them unemployed and without healthcare."

I don't want The Atlantic to become Jacobin or anything but how about you just not invite Marco Rubio to write about something he doesn't care or know anything about?
Can't we get more Benjamin Wittes? He writes well.

maybe The Atlantic will instead become The Weekly Standard

> America Marco Rubio Needs To Restore Dignity of Work
FTFY

@Yuuki Commit merged to master

4:11 PM
Really, it's probably just a couple hundred words too many about how the common laborer needs to be thankful for their existence at the behest of the Great And Glorious Job Creator and heed their every word.

I also don't want the atlantic to become jacobin but that's because I can only handle a certain quantity of Dumb Ostensibly Left Takes
at least "by Marco Rubio" can just be dismissed on its face
my man lost a primary to donald trump lol

@Unionhawk He also lost a primary to Ted Cruz Totally Human President For Humans.

> The house was gone, consumed by the November 2018 Woolsey Fire. I met Charlie Santore, a licensed safecracker, flanked by two Ventura County sheriff’s deputies. They had been patrolling the neighborhood in the wake of the still-active wildfire, and Santore’s car, so overloaded with safecracking equipment that its trunk nearly scrapes the ground, was, from a law-enforcement point of view, not reassuring.

While the deputies confirmed his technician’s license, Santore asked one of them to act like he was under arrest. “Fight the power!” Santore joked. As he laughed, I took a picture. Even t
> In 2017, Santore was called to a house near the 405 freeway that was being renovated by a married couple. The safe had been abandoned by its previous owner, and the couple had been living with it for several years until they finally hired someone to crack it open. Why not? According to Santore, it was the craziest thing he’d ever seen, filled with Bulgari necklaces and Cartier jewels, easily six figures’ worth.
> Santore was called out to the house of a client suffering from dementia. At one point, the son stepped outside to take a phone call. The owner, having forgotten that he hired a safecracker, stepped around the corner to see us squatting next to each other in the closet, fiddling with his safe. Startled, the man said an awkward hello; after we reminded him who we were, he reintroduced himself. In another scenario, I realized, that moment could have gone very badly.
> The 34-year-old Wayne Winton from Tri-County Locksmith once saw an old safe being used as a side table at a Colorado newspaper office. Nobody knew what was inside. Winton offered to crack it—and when the door swung open, they found unpublished photos of the serial killer Ted Bundy.

@puzzlepiece87 Well, that's gotta suck for next year's taxes.

@Yuuki Too bad a story like that probably goes in some generic category like Income - Other
Bring back Income - Treasure Chests imo

But have you not technically owned it for many years and so don't have to declare it until you sell it?

I could see it being considered as part of the purchase of the house.

@Ronan Probably! In the US, do you have to pay taxes if your house appreciates and you sell it and move somewhere else? And they probably have different taxes for primary residence vs house flipping.
Like, I assume you already paid taxes when you bought it or something.

4:48 PM
I don't remember the tax obligations very well, but the big issue with being gifted expensive items is that if you're over the gift tax threshold, you have to pay taxes on the value of the item.
And for expensive items, you'd probably have to sell the item to be able to pay the taxes, depending on your income.
Which is why if you really want to super-generous to your friends, you just gift them money rather than a really nice car. Because they can just take a portion of the money to pay for taxes whereas they'd probably have to sell the car at a loss since vehicles depreciate as soon as they're off the lot.
Or at least I think that's how it works.

I think you are right but am no expert

5:03 PM
Just wanted to casually let you all know that right now a movement in France is being appropriated to advance a pro-oil, anti-climate change, anti-immigration, Nationalist movement - en masse - across Canada. And they are set to demonstrate across the country on Saturday.

@Unionhawk Bingo!

@Unionhawk With any luck this will be one of those "a dozen people showed up" affairs.

@puzzlepiece87 interesting piece

5:40 PM
@Unionhawk holy snap that excerpt
35k members, gross uuggggh

preempting pedantry on "anti-climate change" btw

@Unionhawk Honestly "anti-" looks really weird on two word phrases
Like it sounds good, but in text it looks kind of weird
like anti-bear unions looks like a union for people against bears, instead of a group opposed to bears forming unions (which they have every right to do, gosh darn it)

anti-climate change is ambiguous, obviously here meaning "against the concept as a thing that is happening", but could also mean "wants to continue to survive on this planet"

lol, shade

@TimStone That's ironic

xd

Doesn't apply to him though so he'll probably be fine with it, at least
I mean there's little to say he's not making it up for the sake of the act despite claiming otherwise, but uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Love for my president to crush up adderall and snort it and then invite teenage pageant contestants to his suite, apparently
Well alright then

Oh, no, it's there.

I really can't imagine anyone cares about this besides Trump himself so this is written solely for him except he also doesn't read

What the fuck
That "article" is pure propaganda

violent mob of 1k, heh, you mean the united states army

With regard to the Butina plea it looks like Erickson is preeeetty screwed. Paul though, not Erick, although also Erick on account of being Erick son of Erick
Trump's also out here trying to say he didn't pay AMI despite Cohen having it on tape, admitting to it, and AMI reaching an agreement on the issue with prosecutors

@SaintWacko how was babby formed

@Yuuki How build wall

@TimStone uhhh pretty sure his mother and/or his stepfather killed his dad

Or it was the house, which is haunted. But no they definitely did it

Probably "and".
Or at least the mother was involved.
I mean, dude was buried in his own house.

Narrator: It would turn out he also had investments in the card stock company

In defiance of @POTUS, the @GOP-controlled Senate approves a resolution calling for an end to US military involvement in the Saudi-led response to the war in #Yemen.
While it seems unlikely the House will change course, it could come up again next session. Not looking great for MBS to just shrug his way through things, at any rate

this is bc they remembered in november

I didn't realise that part of it, lol, wtf

Yeah, it was a whole thing
I didn't realize it was they decided an amended version counted as previously read (which is obviously false)
but there were "this is a shitty bill lol" jokes going around the ky120 group

It's really depressing all these evil plans are also so incredibly dumb, like just half-assing your screwing over of people seems likely enough to work you don't have to put real effort into it

8:50 PM
@TimStone Agreed, that has been one of the most depressing points of eternal 2016 for me

It's hard to keep up with matt bevin's shit
the medicaid work requirement stuff was just awful
And I think is on hold?
who fucking knows
the commonwealth sure as shit doesn't
I believe that's held in court at the moment
hopefully it holds long enough for DSA Cincy to run a candidate for governor in 2019 (yes I think that's a stupid idea too)

9:16 PM
@Unionhawk Is DSA Cincy involved in Kentucky because KY doesn't have any cities big enough to form a chapter?

We are involved in KY because Newport and Covington exist
Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green have chapters or organizing committees

Ah got it, Cincinnati is right on the border

Yep

Searching "newport kentucky" showed me the right map snippet to understand the situation instantly

newport is an interesting town
it's an interesting town to canvass in because you can literally answer "how would we pay for it" by pointing across the river at the Great American Tower
meanwhile, S.J.Res.54 has passed in the senate
#BREAKING: The Senate passed a bipartisan resolution directing the President to end U.S. military support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen – a strong rebuke to Saudi Arabia and the Trump administration.
I don't have a total or a list of notables, the last meaningful total was the motion to proceed to consideration of the measure in the senate passed 60-39
which is not to be confused with cloture from what I'm reading, it looked like that one just required a simple majority
lol:
> S.Amdt.4080 Amendment SA 4080 proposed by Senator Young. (consideration: CR S7488-7503; text: CR S7488) To clarify that this resolution prohibits United States Armed Forces from refueling non-United States aircraft conducting missions as part of the ongoing civil war in Yemen.
