@Wipqozn i'm not sure how big casses are in the US but 17 is a good average per class for Australia. just that were are 48 classes in my high school so the average would be 816 students and then you have 1 teacher per class and specialized job for adults (like guidance councilors, principles). unless they plan on doubling the size of the school or rebuilding it so every classroom is a shelter then it's just a bunch of craop
but something will need to be said about the fact that these saferoom being needed is an admission that there is an expectation of a school shooting

@Memor-X I'm pretty sure US class sizes are around 30 students per class

~low budgets~

@Wipqozn even worse then
@Unionhawk oh no, this could very easily be used by politicians, especially those in the pocket of the NRA, as a election promise "My government will ensure that school safe rooms are built and it will be funded by the government". the normal pork barreling

All while cutting teacher positions and increasing class sizes

Yeah Canada is bad for class sizes too
They don't seem to cut teacher jobs from what I've seen, but they cut a lot of non teacher positions

12:10 AM
idk if class sizes increasing is cuts or just nonincreases tbh
it probably Depends On The State(tm)

@Memor-X that's not even news at this point though.
@Unionhawk probably a combination
Class sizes grow due to not building enough schools to keep up with growth, but cuts can play a large role too

the tying of property values to school funding probably doesn't help these things

Yeah that's just putting kids from low income families at even more of a disadvantage

Trump Interior Secretary arranged special tours to restricted sites for friends: report http://hill.cm/wd5YkGl
Sure, why not

@TimStone lol, and it's a wonder why so many have been refused security clearance

Santa Fe shooter had a peturbator album cover as his cover image on facebook and now various media outlets are trying to associate peturbator with domestic terrorism
Syntax posts

9:54 AM
@Wipqozn memor's right though. 17 is a good average number for a class =p

@GnomeSlice wait I thought he was a hillary voter member of ANTIFA, are you telling me that was a fake profile set up by /pol/?

1:39 PM
@Unionhawk what?
Also I cropped the name cause I have syntax's personal account as a friend on Facebook. He's another synthwave artist

2:37 PM
@KevinvanderVelden Oh it's a good number, but it doesn't reflect what class sizes in the USA actually are
So schools investing in this shelter are going to need to invest in some straws too
(because the kids will need to draw straws to see who lives. Get it?)

Have we done the Ritalin take yet?
NRA blames Sante Fe shooting on Ritalin https://goo.gl/YrqvH4
i mean this isn't exactly new, they did this after columbine. but nice to see all the things except guns being blamed

including doors

I think that one was the best tbh
we're just going to ignore the part where more exits means more ways for students to escape
It stems from a focus of only catching the shooter after the fact

Gotta love that Onion headline that gets kicked around every time this happens

5:55 PM
Ah, let's see what the President is up to to...god damnit

@TimStone I was about to post that. It's of course completely unhinged, but I suspect it might simply backfire
I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes - and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!

It undermines any investigation but any investigation wouldn't have found anything substantial enough so perhaps that's the point
Now we get to talk about it without having to actually consider it rationally, hooray!

Usually Trump only complains, but doesn't follow up.
Following up with this threat is dangerous, because there is a good chance the investigators are independent enough to validate the FBI actions

I mean the whole thing is predicated on the idea that the Obama Administration went to such lengths to do this without cause and then literally didn't do anything with the results before the election
So I guess if you can get people to buy into that, 🤷
Like even if you really hated Obama you'd think that you'd believe he'd Do Evil instead of, you know, nothing
I mean to be honest he could literally pretend to have officially ordered the investigation at this point and just continue to pretend it's ongoing and there is a non-zero number of people who would believe him
And I don't know what to do with that reality
Roger Stone: Mueller could “conjure up” a crime related to my business interests http://hill.cm/PRrR9Ve
Narrator: It's because there were in fact crimes

6:18 PM
@TimStone nice preempt

@Unionhawk ?

@quartata The annoying thing is if it's stuff "other people don't get arrested for" even though they absolutely should get arrested. Love too be weak on white collar crimes

I normally ignore presidential tweets. This one requires attention, because it could genuinely produce a crisis with the Justice Department and the FBI. Here’s an explanatory thread that may (or may not) be useful. /1/ https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/998256454590193665
Hmm, Benjamin Wittes thinks that if Trump actually demands this investigation, Rostenstein and/or Wray will resign

7:23 PM
@MadScientist Which may be the point. It's no secret Trump is looking for a way to ax the investigation.

this is utter stupidity. it's one thing to be accepting of gender fluid people, but it's another to censor stuff because the author wants a certain character to be a certain gender
> Girls who played with 'feminised characters', such as Barbie dolls, had fewer career options

ffs really
I don't doubt that the science is correct, but that is not the correct response to it

@ArtOfCode i find it odd that they think that playing with Barbie, the gil who's been done everything from being a veterinarian to an astronaut, makes young girls get fewer career options in the future

I mean
Assuming they conducted the study reasonably well, then that much is relatively indisputable. They've drawn a correlation between A and B - that's not to say A is necessarily the cause of B or to prescribe any specific response to it.
So... yeah, I have no problem with taking "Girls who played with 'feminised characters', such as Barbie dolls, had fewer career options" as fact (might go read the study to check it's not terrible). The problem with it is the response.

@ArtOfCode the downside is that the page i linked too doesn't show link to the study, all it says it was done by the Australian National University

Bah
May require some effort to find, in that case

11:21 PM
in other news i heard this morning. apparently one of the victims of the recent Texas School Shooting and reportedly the first one was reportedly being aggressively pursued romantically by the shooter and a week ago (i think that's what SkyNews said) she rejected him in front of a the classroom

lmao of course Mooch is campaigning for Grimm
Scaramucci campaigns for convicted ex-GOP lawmaker: "I’m a big believer in redemption" http://hill.cm/lY0ATAV
You may remember Grimm from "The FBI is so corrupt that's why I was found guilty of tax fraud"
Also this is kind of a niche item but uhh there's now a documentary about Arthur Chu, apparently?
