plus i feel that giving specific examples of "he did this and she did this in response" not only provides context for why this was messed up even though probably not criminal

and it did spark the "men need to understand consent better" arguments in some circles but like with everything else, hindsight always makes it better

anyway, rich dude on the right tried to do this thing where he carved california into 6 smaller states and it went nowhere

(fun fact, the proposal would've created both the richest and poorest US states, per capita)

anyway, the fact that rural communities are not seeing their local needs addressed because state govt is catering to bay area or los angeles area interests is definitely a thing

some of that is that these are very wealthy areas, so politicians and potential politicians like to cozy up to them for campaign donations

part of it is also that we did term limits and it backfired tremendously

because no one can stay in an elected office for very long, so they are always trying to jump to a new position instead of doing good work in their current position

we fixed some of that and said "10 overall years in office" instead of x terms as a state senator, y terms as a state rep

also our budget has been a mess for decades, getting better but still not great

we prevented ourselves from raising property taxes since the 1970s, so that made most revenue come from income taxes, which swing wildly depending on the economy

but the weather is nice :D

oh except for the droughts and water rights which are yet another mess

There are a number of different left schools of thought under the umbrella because fucking of course there are, and I tend to agree that obtaining revolutionary social democratic reforms is way more likely than abolishing the state and forming an anarcho-syndicalist collective, but, there are definitely things under the umbrella of "the State" that can not continue to exist in their current form, prisons most obviously to me

It is important to consider though that in a democratic society, the State is exactly the same as the People

IMHO, one of the roles of government (but not the only role) is to provide the goods and services that private business is not only incapable of providing, but also unwilling, which I see as being at odds with reducing and especially eliminating bureaucracy.
