Lara Trump says she thinks GOP voters would like to see RNC pay Donald Trump’s legal fees apnews.com/article/…

@Wipqozn Well, if he can bankrupt the fuck out of the GOP i guess it would be the cherry on top

He starts by listing some of the important cases that are coming up, including mifepristone, Trump immunity, and Chevron Deference, which was pretty much the center of my administrative law class just over a year ago. When there is ambiguity in the law set by Congress, courts defer to agency expertise. It's critical. Without it the FDA and the Environmental Protection Agency are truly screwed.
Of course, this court will likely gut it, which is really frightening.
He goes on a bit about how incredibly unpopular and untrusted the court is as a whole.
Alito's Alaska trip, Gorsuch's real estate deal with a law firm that argues cases in front of the Court, $1000 wine, private planes, etc
Then he tells the story of Abe Fortas, who wrote my favorite Landmark Supreme Court opinion. (Tinker v. Des Moines which happened in my high school, but that's beside the point) he resigned during the whole Watergate thing because of the barest sniff of scandal concerning conflict of interest and financial gain. Oliver refers to him later as rolling over in his grave concerning the Supreme Court today. "Are you kidding me?"
After Fortus's resignation, the US Judicial Conference issued a code of ethics for all federal judges except the Supreme Court judges, which is a bizarre exception to make, considering that it was a Supreme Court scandal that caused them to issue the code of ethics.
Then he starts on Clarence Thomas.
Oh! Here's the transcript which I copied into Google Docs: docs.google.com/document/d/…

skip ~2 minutes for the Eurovision winners lol

@Wipqozn And it's blatantly unconstitutional (Tinker V Des Moines, which I mentioned in my above long post). That's another one I wouldn't be surprised to see this Supreme Court overturn. That would break my heart. That's the one where kids wore black armbands during the Vietnam war. "Students don’t shed their First Amendment rights at the schoolhouse gates" or something like that.
@Wipqozn it's really absurd when you see it!
