@Jolenealaska there has to be a catch to this? like how much would he have been earning?
@Wipqozn self-centered asswipe. and the fact people still think he's in it for them is utterly baffling
@Memor-X I don't think there's a catch. If Justice Thomas were to resign within 30 days, John Oliver would pay him a million dollars a year for the rest of Thomas's life. For what it's worth, associate justices of the Supreme Court are paid $298,500 per year as of January 2024.
John can afford it.
Crazier things have happened.
Like Trump getting elected.

@Memor-X In that episode, John Oliver essentially claimed that the luxury vacations and other things he gets from his billionaire "friends" are de facto compensation for Thomas staying on the court. So this offer would counterbalance that by compensating him for not staying on the court.
should have made it clear, when i said "how much would he have been earning" i mean John Oliver, like does being a comedian really earn him that much to effectively give someone a yearly allowance of 1 million?
because from my understanding his stunts have been with HBO Money, but he said this time it's his own money
I think he's one of the main draws to HBO subscriptions, and I bet that lets him demand a lot

Hang on, a new episode of LWT? Weird, it didn't release on YouTube yet in EU
05:53
oh
Apparently HBO no longer releases episodes concurrently on YouTube, they first release them on HBO Max and then on Thursday on YouTube

@Memor-X He could afford to make the same offer to all five conservative Justices!

@Jolenealaska as funny as that sounds, it's also very worrying that it's legal
