It will be interesting to see what 'shows of respect' are seen.
The death of a former Secretary of State might normally see flags lowered to half-mast. It's weird not to do it, but in this case, I think it would be weirder to do it. That's one of the rare things that's entirely up to Biden.
They'll do it
I mean ultimately he died a 100 year old man who accomplished all his goals and died with the respect of the American political establishment rather than in a prison cell in The Hague but
y'know I'll take it
I do appreciate Rolling Stone for the headline that allows me to inject my opinion on the man in the star list
I immediately looked at the source to see if that was actually the headline as written :)
This famous Anthony Bourdain quote is also circulating:
> Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking.
3:01 AM
The half-mast order for Rosalynn Carter ended a few hours ago. I get email alerts for half-mast orders for some strange reason, so I'll see the order as soon as it comes down.
Yeah we have "why are flags at half mast" on our intranet
Probably so people don't email, I don't even know who you would email about this, about this
Security I guess?
Not that I care I'm full remote
And you're right. Flags went to half-mast for Madeline Albright, and Biden just isn't the type to show disrespect if he doesn't have to, so the flags will go down.
4:11 AM
yknow could be worse, he could have actually been an immortal vampire or something
But at least we can rule that out probably
4:47 AM
> new public restroom unlocked
The day will come when the question will be about lowering the flag for a whole month (as is SOP for former presidents) for Trump.
Note: As a moderator, I feel compelled to point out that although we all probably had the same thought upon reading that line, that thought is best kept to ourselves.
I will say that I hope he's in prison when the president at the time makes the call.

Henry Kissinger: A Legacy of Diplomacy and Deception

Henry Kissinger, the Nobel Laureate who never let ethics stand in the way of realpolitik, passed away yesterday, leaving behind a world stage profoundly shaped by his unique brand of diplomacy.

Kissinger, often hailed as a master strategist, was as adept at navigating the corridors of power as he was at circumventing the corridors of accountability. His career was a testament to the belief that in the great chess game of international politics, pawns – be they small countries or human rights principles – are there to be sacrificed.
ChatGPT's attempt at an Onion-esque obituary
@Wipqozn that will make the rest of his gang of thugs very proud indeed.
Sorry @Jolenealaska TL;DR :-D
Totally understandable. :)
Him making it through coV at that age is impressive.

> Now, upon reading and filing the papers with respect to the motion, and due deliberation having been had thereon, It is ordered that the motion is denied; the interim relief granted by order of a Justice of this Court, dated November 16, 2023, is hereby vacated.
8:39 PM
@BradC To be clear: the Trump Legal team got a gag order, they appealed the gag order and got a motion to stay it pending the appeal, and now that motion is denied, but the gag order appeal can still theoretically work
@BradC The only sane decision
@Wipqozn Also, there's a good chance the gag order appeal will not be finished before the end of the court case
