@Fredy31 what did Kevin give the Nutjobs? he stopped the government from shutting down

Last time he basically needed to sell his soul to the Gatez wing of the party to even be voted in. Remember when it took days for that vote that should be a formality?
At the opening of the 118th Congress, the members-elect of the U.S. House elected in the 2022 midterms held an election for speaker of the House, marking the 128th U.S. speaker election since the office was created in 1789. It began on January 3, 2023, and concluded in the early morning hours of January 7 when Kevin McCarthy of California, leader of the House Republican Conference, won a majority of votes cast on the fifteenth ballot. After the longest speaker election since the December 1859 – February 1860 U.S. speaker election, McCarthy won the speakership by making concessions to Republican...

yeh and this is the result. because he dared worked with the Democrats to avoid a governments shut down, the Gatez wing as you call them now think he isn't working with "Republican" interest in mind

Oh I misread it, sorry
tought he got his hardcore branch to vote yea to not have a shutdown
but no he went across the aisle and now Gaetz and his witches are doing a witch hunt
The US politics are sof
so fucking stupid

or at least what it has become today

like wasn't gaetz caught with the receipts early 2020 that he bought underage girls for sex? ooo the party of 'the other party is pedos' didn't even react to that one

1:15 AM
@Fredy31 yep but that investigation ended with no charges

In July 2023 it was reported that the House Ethics Committee had re-opened the investigation into allegations about Gaetz's sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, and other misconduct they had initially started in 2021. The probe by the committee had been paused while DOJ were carrying out investigations over allegations that he had sex with a minor.

Trump ramps up violent rhetoric nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/…
> In the past week, Trump suggested in an online post that Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, deserved to face the death penalty. In California, he called for shoplifters to be shot on sight. Criticizing former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., during the same speech, he mockingly asked how Pelosi’s husband was doing, referring to the violent attack on Paul Pelosi
The majority of his supporters agree with him of course

Speaker McCarthy has been removed, the shortest serving speaker of the house since Michael C. Kerr (December 1875-August 1876). Kerr died of tuberculosis.

10:09 PM
lol

10:20 PM
> "If you throw a speaker out that has 99 percent of their conference, that kept government open and paid the troops, I think we're in a really bad place," McCarthy told reporters in the Capitol Tuesday morning.
and who's put them in that bad place? only have you and your party to blame McCarthy
> Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., said McCarthy's decision to change the rules on who can propose a resolution to remove the speaker, allowing just one member to do it — a concession made for McCarthy to get the speakership in the first place — "essentially puts the fringe in charge of the House of Representatives in terms of rulemaking."

Neal said he had a "Machiavellian position" about that decision in January: "Once you seal the deal, you have to take the consequences."
and given the nutjobs involved i would not be surprised if McCarthy announcing the impeachment inquiry against Biden (from my understanding) with zero evidence would have been a trigger for all of this earlier had he not capitulated to them
