apartment building partially collapsed near Miami abcnews.go.com/US/building-partially-collapses-miami-beach/…

there's just no way this isn't going to end up being dozens and dozens of casualties, if not hundreds

@BradC I don't think there are hundreds living there, but it will certainly be in the high double digits. It seems a bit like the news are underestimating this one so far because there is no real casualty number

unless it was mostly empty, the collapsed section could easily have housed hundreds
But yeah, I understand they don't report "deaths" until they have confirmed bodies, but sometimes that leads to underplaying what will be the (to me) obvious final toll
The ABC News article linked above mine has some details and updates: 12 story building, 136 units, 55 of which were in the portion that collapsed

@BradC 55 units pretty much puts a cap of around 200 people occupying those units.

So far 35 people were rescued, but it sounds to me like most of those were from the uncollapsed portion?
> So far, rescuers have pulled 35 occupants who were trapped inside the building, two of whom were beneath rubble

this is a better pic of the size of the section that collapsed, courtesy of Ken on Twitter

Sask. First Nation announces discovery of 751 unmarked graves near former residential school cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/…
@TimStone Perfect
Can we actually punish Trump now though? THanks.
but this 751 is from a whole other school than the one a few weeks ago
It's fucked
It was always pretty clear what happened to all these kids that just vanished... but I think finding the graves will make this more real for, well, the rest of Canada.
> Delorme said there may have at one point been markers for the grave sites. He said the Roman Catholic church, who oversaw the cemetery, removed the graves at some point in the 1960s.
Has the Roman Catholic church ever apologized for their part in this?
Doesn't look like it... although members of the church are calling on the pope to do so.
oh the pope straight up refused to do
man the catholic church is such hot fucking garbage

@Wipqozn did you see the news about the catholic pastor who recently said that canadians should be thanking the church for running residential schools?

@Yuuki Holy sweet hell
> Keenan also said in his sermon that while the church should apologize for its participation in the "ill-devised government project," it should also wait to find out who was buried at the Kamloops site and why before "rendering ultimate judgment."
"ill-devised government project"... holy hell
and wait find out who was buried....who else do you think is buried their?

what the hell does "who" matter?

I wonder if he thinks the holocaust is real
@Yuuki gotta ensure they're catholic before we mourn them
> In the same sermon, Keenan criticized Catholic schools for flying Pride flags this month, saying the church had hoped they'd show "courage" by displaying a cross or sacred heart instead. He described the Pride flag as "the standard of contemporary sexual licence" that's replacing Catholic symbols.
oh fuck this guy all around
He's just a bigot
Those kids weren't nice, devote white catholics, so who cares what happened to them, amirite guys? Clearly when Jesus said love thy neighbor, he only meant the white ones.

4:20 PM
@Wipqozn catholic schools typically display crosses etc literally constantly so idk why that'd be courageous
also I'm not quite sure how this guy tied it in to the reading of the day, protestant sermons can be about whatever but catholic homilies have to be related to the gospel of the day

@Wipqozn AFAIK, not officially

5:15 PM
@Wipqozn the Archbishop of Ottowa did apparently but not the Pope
so like, yes and no

@Unionhawk That's something, at least.
@Unionhawk Because catholics are the most oppressed group of all. Except Capital-G Gamers.
