i don't know what to make on this. either he's saying that US Businesses will still operate in Hong Kong but face less competition so they get to make more money

or

the US itself will still do business with Hong Kong but face less competition from other countries
either way the end message is that the US doesn't give 2 shits about freedom and libraries so long as they get to make more money
@TimStone if it's from a network he doesn't like, he'll just call them mean and tell them to get out
want to see if someone from Fox has the balls to do that
we know OAN, if they were to interject, it would be just to ass kiss
@TimStone she's horrible for what's she's (alleged) done, but i want her to make a deal in exchange for getting other arrested
like if she drops evidence on Prince Andrew, we know he'll hide out in the UK until the Queen disowns him and exiles him to the Colony

2:11 AM
Canada politely declines U.S. politicians’ request to kill thousands of our residents t.co/SW2fDeNOoO t.co/nXiQAdhxof
The Beaverton has improved so much in the last few years.
They're essentially the Canadian version of The Onion.
Have any states other than California announced stricter covid policies?
I think I heard something about mandatory masks in Texas.

2:47 AM
it's actually worse
> "So are White people. So are White people. What a terrible question to ask. So are White people," Mr. Trump told CBS News senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge at the White House. "More White people, by the way. More White people."

10 hours later…
12:57 PM
@Memor-X But again, he's not racist folks!

@Wipqozn you didn't miss anything

@MadScientist Sounds like I missed the last bit of your brain melting away into mush though.
It just couldn't put up with the insanity any longer.

My brain feels better today, but the speech was really, really dumb in a boring way

He was probably hoping he could talk about a reopened Canadian border, which didn't happen.

I think it was a replacement for the rally that was canceled

1 hour later…
2:19 PM
> Elon Musk, not Johnny Depp, responsible for Amber Heard's 'cuts and bruises', court hears,
lolwat
@Wipqozn It helps when your country doesn't take the Onion as domestic policy.

@Yuuki lollolol
The Onion for President

The Onion mostly doesn't seem that great these days simply because our reality is weirder than their satire.
Whereas Canada is at least marginally sane.

@BradC how shocking lol

3:26 PM
@Stormblessed He apparently lasted one full Scaramucci

1 hour later…
5:56 PM
> I can’t explain Peter Navarro. He’s in a world by himself. So I don’t even want to go there.
That quote is from Fauci

@TimStone You know, for a party that's s concerned about election fraud, the GOP sure do commit a lot of election Fraud.

6:29 PM
@Wipqozn Classic conservative behaviour: do as I say, not as I do

7:02 PM
The President and his children are posing with beans

7:16 PM
@TimStone Honestly this is just completely unbelievable at this point. Frankly if a single republican gets reelected in november, it'll be a huge embarrassment. The sheer amount of incompetence and corruption at play here is just unreal.

No way shocked_pikachu.gif
So BoJo tried to set up Chris Grayling for the easy win to maintain control over the situation, but Julian Lewis orchestrated a coup to get himself voted in instead, and now the Tories have stripped Lewis of the whip because he "worked with Labour and other opposition MPs for his own advantage"
Anyway that committee votes on releasing the UK's Russia report tomorrow
They apparently accidentally set themselves on fire too and were arrested and transported for medical care

8:02 PM
If anyone wants to see some more history in the making: theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/15/…
Essentially, someone decided to replace what was the statue of Colston with a BLM protestor
@Wipqozn It's the same story (although presumably not as bad) with the Tory cabinet in the UK

Not releasing local numbers of cases until recently, giving e.g. PPE contracts to companies they're 'on friendly terms' with, despite those companies clearly being among the worst possible options

8:38 PM
Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and the Bitcoin Twitter account have all been hijacked to promote cryptocurrency scams

Does that last one count as a hijack
That kind of sounds like business as usual

I mean technically
Also the Winklevoss crypto company, lol

Same question

Yes
Incidentally a soggy piece of bread is polling at the same level but hey, I guess we'll take it. At least as things get worse for Trump he'll definitely not get more unstable

9:03 PM
Oh my god and @Apple
Someone has one hell of a twitter vuln

Wot
How does that happen

I have no idea
One would think like, @Verified or someone else in support would be on this faster
To at least keep it from getting posted and embedded that yeah even Apple got hacked your security is awful Twitter

I'm not seeing it though?

Now deleted

lol Kanye now too

9:06 PM
That explains it

Obviously uh, don't give money to people who claim they will double your money
That's runescape scams 101

They're being deleted quickly, at least?

There's rumours an employee with access to user management was compromised but tbh all these accounts probably use some publishing service too
@Unionhawk Apparently $60k so far? lol
Ah there's Bezos

@TimStone yeah people wouldn't post Bitcoin scams in Elon's replies as fake Elon accounts if it didn't work
So actual Elon posting it?

@Unionhawk Oh hmm so not sure if they actually did have third-party access

9:19 PM
Forever branded as An Account That Has Tweeted

Ah they got Biden RIP
Didn't even customize it for a donation scam

I'm really curious about this
It's probably more of a vulnerability of Twitter itself than those accounts, if I had to guess?

@Unionhawk on Biden’s too

I'd still bet on a marketing tool vulnerability and not a core Twitter one, but both are possible

@MadScientist What do you mean?

9:27 PM
@Wrigglenite My understanding is that everyone doing social media in a professional capacity uses various tools to schedule and manage tweets, or analyze metrics and all that stuff. Those tools have write access to a lot of Twitter accounts

I see, that'd make sense

That would make sense, though does Elon do promoted tweets?
Some of these accounts make sense for that some don't

Elon is one case that doesn't fit the theory entirely
A core Twitter exploit would also be a more interesting story

I'm seeing claims that an administration panel was accessed via a compromised remote employee
I don't uh, understand how that could possibly cause this because well you know

One interesting part is certainly that Twitter can't seem to shut this down quickly

9:38 PM
Why would the admin panel have either "post as someone else" or "login as this person"
Or any variant of "reset password"
Other than one that strictly goes to the original registered email

A lot of admin tools can indirectly give you access to everything else

Supposedly it's that last one and you know damn well they didn't do it correctly lol
This is Twitter

So possibly a set of "change this user's email address" plus "reset password"
Equals "access this user's account"

That seems like a plausible tool that would be needed in some cases

Yeah, like "my email address was changed by someone who hijacked my account"
That's not a joke that is an actual use case
Though it is funny that "literally this happening" is a use case for this tool

9:44 PM
It's a shame they didn't hack Trump's account

It's true, really confused why you wouldn't turn around and try to do GoyaCoin

Though it's a bit scary what you could do with Trump's account if you didn't try to scam some bitcoins

@MadScientist Get people to inject bleach?

@Wrigglenite Declare War

If this is an admin panel breach then uh
Why haven't they like, checked the audit log on "people who have changed Elon Musk's email address", found an anomaly from today, and shut down that person's access

I'd disable the tool entirely for an hour, if that was the case

inb4 the support account tweets the scam

Surely they have an audit log on that tool right
At minimum
Right

Look they're just gonna tweet through it
It's fine
Anyway I regret to inform the President that for national security reasons we must ban his Twitter account

The hack still seems active

10:01 PM
@Unionhawk The one thing that makes this somewhat unlikely is if you have access to an account you can revoke existing sessions and they…didn't do that. But they're also running a bitcoin scam so maybe they're just dumb

@TimStone I figured this would be the same here, but turns out 35 hours at minimum wage in NS would bring in 1700 per month. 1 bedroom would run you 1k or less (but could also go a lot higher). That said finding apartments right now is difficult, and a lot of minimum wage workers only do part time hours.
The fact minimum wage workers in the US would need to work upwards of 70 hours (according to that twitter thread) is absolutely absurd.
> In fact, the average minimum wage worker in the U.S. would need to work almost 97 hours per week to afford a fair market rate two-bedroom and 79 hours per week to afford a one-bedroom, NLIHC calculates. That's well over two full-time jobs just to be able to afford a two-bedroom rental.
> The report, released Tuesday, defines "affordable" as spending no more than 30% of monthly income on rent, in line with what most budgeting experts recommend.
Oh, that makes more sense
Which would then be the same in NS
Okay, that's terrible, but not as terrible as I thought.

@Wipqozn The 30% rule isn't really achievable in bigger cities in quite a few countries

@MadScientist Yeah, it's not. I make good money and I'm just at 25%.
I thought the article meant you needed to work 80 hours at minimum wage in the US to have enough money for rent
And then have no money left over

Yes, it's glorious

ok nvm at least now -- many in English twitter.com/…
including Scott Adams ugh

@MadScientist Exactly what I was thinking. It would be easy enough to make people think it's him and he's serious.
@MadScientist Yeah, that's really common in my experience.

@TimStone That's...gotta be criminal.

11:03 PM
It definitely seems not good!

again verified accounts can't tweet
hmm actually no

Big if True (that they intercepted SMS reset codes but also that it was the Quebecois)
I mean sure it could have been someone using 7 proxies terminating in Quebec but we all know better

11:20 PM
Nearly 5,000 U.S. citizens tried to enter Canada for shopping, recreation amid pandemic: CBSA ctvnews.ca/canada/…
> According to new data from the Canada Border Services Agency, more than 10,000 U.S. citizens have been turned away at the Canadian border during the pandemic — and almost half of them were hoping to enter Canada to shop, go sightseeing or simply for recreation.
:/
I honestly don't understand
like I get people don't give a fuck and want to travel, aka plenty of Americans have lied to get in
but surely they realize they'll be turned away at the border if they just want to shop, right...?

We're willing to accept that children should die going back to school for the sake of stonks

11:41 PM

> You may be unable to Tweet or reset your password while we review and address this incident.
There you go finally lol
lmfao @TemporaryNBCNews:
> It appears Twitter has halted tweeting from verified accounts as they deal with the July 15th verified account compromise event.

We will temporarily tweet significant updates here, and retweet them to our verified accounts, as a service.
I did check that account is real
Or at least, it is being retweeted by @NBCNews
