U.S. agency tells Biden he can formally begin transition reut.rs/2UW84F2

12:20 AM
@Unionhawk Still just amazing that it's literally the Pinkertons

12:50 AM
@Wipqozn Trump even tweeted saying it could begin. Never would have thought it would happen

@Sterno I'm also surprised, although he said cases are still on going.

1:06 AM
could be just for the cameras while behind the scenes he's screaming "FUCKEN RINO TRAITORS!"

He never cared for pretending to be reasonable just for the cameras.
If anything, he'd learned to be even more of an insane caricature for the cameras.

1 hour later…
2:21 AM
CRA warns 213,000 Canadians that they might have to pay back CERB overpayments cbc.ca/news/politics/…
The rich make billions during a pandemic, and the government does nothing. Hard working Canadians lose their jobs, and the government goes after them. Great stuff.

2:38 AM
@Wipqozn just remind the government NOT to use the tax departments numbers to automate collection notices

> "Any Republican who allows this to happen is complicit, and we will finish you," the protester, donning a camo sweatshirt with an elephant on it, shouts into the microphone. "For any Republicans not explicitly helping Trump to 'stop the steal,' we will make sure you are never elected ever again."
So what now? They gonna vote Democrat?

I fully support Republicans in their boycott of the Georgia runoffs.

> In a wide-ranging new book, the pontiff calls the predominantly Muslim minority group a "persecuted" people, something human rights activists have been urging him to do for years.

11:28 AM
I love how I first heard the name of Biden's Secretary of State. This clip is cued up to it:

@Jolenealaska This is incredible

It makes me smile :)
Time is flying. We're down to 57 days left of President Drumpf.

> Brits refuse to get over-excited about new UK coronavirus vaccine, as it’s not the first time they've pinned their hopes on a bunch of pricks from Oxford.

👀
Also PA has certified its election results

lmfao
It's a common dumb small business thing to accidentally include the quotation marks in your tagline for some reason but it just seems a little on the nose here

6:11 PM
> There is something deeply politically poetic about The USS McCain telling Russia we will stand our ground on the same day we tell Putin's puppet in the Whitehouse it is over.

6:26 PM
37 new cases in NS today. FUN TIMES.
cc @MBraedley
Maybe we should have some sane restrictions in again
We've been doing a shit job with this socond wave

I'm being asked if I want to get on a plane again...

@MBraedley Will it take you to PEI or NL?

St. John's

If so, might be a good idea lol
OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma pleads guilty to criminal charges reut.rs/3m20bd9

One of the guys is "Nope, I'll help from here", another is maybe, and the third is all for it. Mind you, his parents are in Nfld already, so he can get his personal travel isolation done and over with.
@Wipqozn When does that go live? 3PM?

6:49 PM
@MBraedley While I generally would try to avoid that, it seems that this might not be as dangerous as other kinds of meetings, mostly because there is reasonable ventilation there and people wear masks. I'd organize a good FFP2 mask though if I had to fly

7:30 PM
Yep, @Wipqozn and I are basically in lockdown now.
or, effective Thursday.

@MBraedley Masks are even required in common areas of buildings now. Didn't expect that, but it makes sense, and I'm glad for it.

I'm about 8 minutes behind on the live stream

I'm during an interview haha
so I haven't watched
just checked the update
as in, I'm interviewing someone, not being interviewed myself
@MBraedley I'm really surprised they didn't close schools.

@MadScientist you're not allowed to use an FFP2 mask on airplanes, because they only protect yourself and not those around you

@Nzall I mean one without a breathing vent

8:16 PM
Sounds like they'll now be handing out $1000 fines for everyone attendinga party. Thankf cuk.
Because supposedly, those kids tossing the 60 person party don't give a fuck. SURPRISE!
> Peggy Walt lives in the residential neighbourhood where the party took place. "I spoke to two of these students the next day. They were completely, 100 per cent unapologetic about their behaviour," she told NEWS 95.7's The Rick Howe Show. "They told me it's not my problem, it's none of my business."
Maybe it's time to retroactively hand out those fines per person, and triple the fines of the hosters.

@Wipqozn while I agree with the sentiment, it's a real legal controversy if you're going to make something retroactively illegal

Maybe
Frankly if they use contract tracing to trace back a death to someone at that party, they should charge everyone who attended with murder. It's just so fucking selfish and reckless. complete disregard for human life.
"I want to get drunk, so sorry grandma, but you're gonna need to just deal with it."

8:38 PM
@Wipqozn murder requires intent. This would be negligent homicide

@Nzall I mean whatever
Point is, fuck these people.

it makes a difference for whether you want them in jail for life or just for 10 years

like this isn't "Well I knew I had to self isolate, but I need to work to feed my kids!" it's just "Fuck you I want to paaaarrrtaaaaayyy".
@Nzall I mean it's not like it'll actually happen. I'm just venting.

@Nzall Yeah, that would clearly be unconstitutional. But since the fines existed prior to the party, the hosts still could be slapped.
So at this point, I don't even know if I'm going to make it home at all for Christmas. We'll see what things are like in 2 weeks.

8:54 PM
@MBraedley Yeah I'm worried they're going to go into full blown lockdown by Christmas

2 hours later…

Homes near Honda dealership can't be turned into parking lot, councillor says cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/…
But they can still be demolished and replaced with another commercial space, sadly
> In 2016, the Steele Auto Group tore down 17 properties to expand the Colonial Honda car dealership along Robie Street. The move sparked a protest called Homes not Hondas
New rules are in place now supposedly
It's so fucked
Near zero percent vacancy, and we're going to let businesses tear down homes
Like there's no where for these people to go

11:58 PM
> The Scottish Parliament voted unanimously to pass a measure that requires local authorities to ensure free period products are available to anyone who needs them. Scottish Labour MSP Monica Lennon, who spearheaded the campaign, says the vote marks "a proud day for Scotland and a signal to the world that free universal access to period products can be achieved."
