@TimStone and how much did they collect? because i get the feeling they can pay off that fine with the money

@Memor-X I think they're probably right that it qualifies as compelled speech, though I'm not sure if there's a carve-out for this sort of thing
In general, in my opinion, if someone commits a crime, including a sex crime, and gets convicted and serves out their sentence, they shouldn't have the additional punishment of being made a social pariah forever.

12:48 AM
@TimStone I don't know

@Memor-X Pretty sure it's illegal to use the sex offender registry to do this.

4 hours later…

7 hours later…
@GnomeSlice @justsaysinmice

11:38 AM
Yeah I read it

12:26 PM
lol the hill
headline: "NEW POLL: Nearly half of Americans think Democrats have moved too far to the left"

@Unionhawk so just the republicans

text: "...survey from Quinnipiac...found that 47 percent of registered voters [have said the thing in the headline] however, most of those voters identified as Republicans"

12:48 PM
Noted extreme leftists [the entire list of Democratic Senators]

American's entire left wing is too far right for me

1:54 PM
Ah, I see The Federalist is out with the checks notes "If the Democrats win in 2020 we won't have a democracy anymore" take
Very sane and not at all concerning

what

I heard Unionhawk had a phrase for that

god, the "from spain" is what really amplifies this
holy shit

(I don't quite agree with the phrase but... mostly a "Sure, all american cops are guilty by association and not putting a stop to the abuses of their co-workers... but that's not all cops, america isn't the world" thing, so it's 11312)

like if Portland Police Bureau did this it'd be dumb because they also engage in attacking protesters
but this has additional context beyond that

2:05 PM
@Yuuki jfc

I actually just realized that said "the police" not "the people"
so nevermind this checks out

tilts head in confused non-americannes

we got him
can you imagine though
how awesome that pitch would be

They should have him run the bases
From the folks who brought you "Yeah we operate a massive disinformation machine", it's Facebook News

2:27 PM
@Elva IIRC, the president throws the first pitch for at least one game of the World Series.

Aah
Is the world series just american teams? :p

> Perhaps the unflattering pictures are why Trump didn't jump at the opportunity to throw a first pitch.
yeah perhaps
@Yuuki looks like it's just every president has thrown at least a first pitch since Taft. A lot of them are Opening Day or the All Star game

at least 2 of them are false anyway

2:43 PM
It's my understanding that Hillary Clinton is Saying Things now at Elijah Cummings' service and could we, I cannot stress this enough, have not?

excues me what the fuck

This is an appropriate response

So... is this it? It is over? Are we a banana republic now? Trump's DOJ targets his enemies with criminal investigation of its own Russia probe

Nah, you don't grow enough bananas for that... that's how that works right?

3:17 PM
@TimStone lol including Breitbart

Harvey Weinstein Turned Up At An Event For Young Actors. A Woman Confronted Him And Was Thrown Out. buzzfeednews.com/article/amberjamieson/…

You were even here when I posted that last night smh :P

@TimStone yeah but I don't pay attention to what you say

3:49 PM
@TimStone that's unfortunately all the detail we get about the safe.
> It's not clear why prosecutors are interested in Steven Fruman, or what specifically agents sought from the safe.

Good article, not sure if it was posted here yet: Trump’s Allies Growing Desperate for Defenses of Ukraine Scandal
Nice overview of the random, scattered nature of attempted excuses/defenses of Trump by various groups including GOP congressmen and Trump-friendly media, and their (lack of) effectiveness as more damning information continues to come out
(that's not the article headline, that's my summary)

4:18 PM
> Trump famously declared he wouldn’t lose any support if he shot somebody on Fifth Avenue. The crucial dynamic here is that if he did try this, while conservatives might initially experience some dismay, they would quickly recover and produce the same counterarguments. The Journal would be pointing out that the person he shot is in critical but stable condition and might well survive, thereby clearing Trump of murder.
> Hewitt would be noting that Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812, U.S. Grant in the Civil War, and Teddy Roosevelt at San Juan Hill are all examples of other presidents who have shot people. Shapiro would suggest Trump was perhaps just pursuing his long-standing interest in fighting urban crime.
(that's from my earlier link)

lol we have officially confirmed that facebook will approve ads with straight up lies like "Lindsay Graham supports the green new deal"
will, and now has

> Broke: bees are dying en masse because pesticides
> Woke: bees are saving the earth by committing mass suicide to take the humans out with them
> Bee-spoke: "bee smelling you later, fools!"

I've never butt-dialed anyone.
I don't even understand.

I've pocket SIRI way too often in meetings at work - something about where the chair arm hits the phone in my pocket
Once it even dialed 911
But I've never butt-dialed a person, that I can recall

@BradC Incredible

user15026
@BradC how does that even what

@TimStone That's big news!!

user15026
I think the worst I've done is confused Google Assistant because they interpreted something I said to a customer as "hey google" so they tried to search to help about random words I said

alternate pun via @AsteadWesley: booty guiliani
Via @HeerJeet: I spent three months investigating this and he just butt dialed it out.

I'm not sure if that would be better or worse than the original.

7:42 PM
now we just need the cia chiming in to help giuliani crimes
Gabbard has dropped her House reelection bid.

And nothing of value was lost.

So Harvey Weinstein was confronted in an NYC bar and oh god, the tone of this article.
> "Harvey Weinstein was out with friends enjoying the music and trying to find some solace in his life that has been turned upside down,"
hrrrk

7:58 PM
@BradC I have Siri voice on. In the middle of a meeting this morning it asked me what I wanted to calculate because it heard "what is".

@Yuuki why isn't he in jail at the moment? Isn't he being charged? Or is it still in the preliminary investigation phase? Or is he just being civilly sued?

@BradC He's rich so he's out on bail.
Trial's in January of next year, IIRC.

@Nzall Yep. Or "I didn't understand your question"

Possible to hold socially conservative views and be prime minister: Scheer cbc.ca/news/politics/scheer-socially-conservative-1.5334891
> "I believe you can have both of those positions: you can have a personal view and you can acknowledge that in Canada, the prime minister does not impose a particular viewpoint on Canadians," he said of his opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage.
Oh look, he finally sort of gave a straight answer to that question
(Trigger warning) More than 1 in 7 girls say they were sexually assaulted by another student — but schools lack policies to help cbc.ca/news/canada/…
> 9% of boys reported sexual assault by peers
> "What concerns me is that people [will] dismiss this number … because they think it's too high and that can't be possible. And yet it is possible."
> Although she didn't know it at the time, Brooke was one of three girls at the school to come forward with allegations against the same student
> The school contacted the RCMP, and the male student, who cannot be named because of a publication ban, was arrested and charged with six counts of sexual assault, among other offences.
> Three separate trials took place in the following months. The student was eventually acquitted of four counts of sexual assault, including those related to Brooke. The two other charges were dropped by the Crown, and he pleaded guilty to sexual interference in one case.
Names have been changed for the girls to protect their privacy

@Wipqozn jesus, acquitted on four of six counts?
and the other two were dropped?
1) who bungled the hell out of this prosecution? 2) just what the hell

This ruling is important not just for the content that will get turned over to the House, but for the validation of the House's impeachment inquiry as legitimate
> “Congress’s need to access grand jury material relevant to potential impeachable conduct by a President is heightened when the Executive Branch willfully obstructs channels for accessing other relevant evidence,” Howell said.

> Marketplace reviewed violence prevention policies in various provinces and found that many school boards lump sexual violence with other forms of bullying. Sexual assault is often listed alongside offences such as physical violence and vandalism.
@Yuuki BOYS WILL BE BOYS
> When good policies are matched with staff who are trained and students who are properly educated, experts say children are less likely to be exposed to sexual violence.

@Wipqozn noooooooo
no way
i never would've thought that would be the case

@Wipqozn It's honestly scary the numbers are that high.
I'd be burning the school down if I learned that was happening to my kids and they were trying to sweep it under the rug.

8:30 PM
@BradC Due by the 30th but presumably they attempt a quick appeal

@Frank Yeah, it's horrifying
@Yuuki Radical ideas, I know

@TimStone "I'm stressing the hell out of this country, so you gotta let them do something to relax."

8:46 PM
Lol Rudy

@Wipqozn @Yuuki School administrators have their head buried so far in the sand it sticks out the other side of the Earth. What a bad global society we have.

jfc :/
(it's my understanding that neither child was the intended target here, but yeah)

9:03 PM
inb4 someone says "AK47s are really old guns, anyone who actually wants to kill someone would at least use an AK74!".
