@RedRiderX i don't mean to fault the kid at all, it's not the kid's fault that the parents are exploiting him
but eventually the kid ages out of being cute or doesn't feel like performing (aka wants to be a kid) but the parents got bills to pay and it becomes a mess

@GodEmperorDune Right that could definitely still happen.
I was only thinking of the fame aspect and how a kid playing with toys on youtube probably won't have to worry about that.

@RedRiderX if his peers are the ones watching those videos, the fame will probably follow him

@TimStone Once again proving to be the most popular just means you gotta get the young audience
aka quality means nothing. NOTHING.

unrelated
Rudy didn’t separate g-20 from .in so ya boy bought the domain. 😎 https://twitter.com/rudygiuliani/status/1068570837459050496

@Wipqozn Not necessarily the most popular but the most profitable.

12:04 AM
@Wipqozn Yeah, though the article about him does mention the fact that his viewers are so young his views are worth less because they themselves have less money to spend apparently

Which are related but not 100% so

@TimStone they can nag parents though

although Markiplier is actually pretty solid, and seems to be a pretty good guy? He plays everything up for his videos, but he often makes more serious videos where he tries to SCIENCE! some stuff.

I think an India music label is still the most popular thing on youtube

Yeah it's just not as directly effective so I guess the monetization is different

12:05 AM
@GodEmperorDune That's literally the entire premise of toys commercials after all

When I see Ryan Toys Review I just immediately think of the SEO potential.

I forgot Logan Paul existed until that article
I blame @TimStone
At least paul and pew are at the bottom of the list..of the top 10...
> Despite a backlash last year after he included racist imagery in his videos, advertisers have returned, shelling out up to $450,000 for a sponsored video.

Part of me wonders if youtube developed related product ads just for channels like these

Just man, fuck advertisers

That and makeup vloggers

12:06 AM
also capitalism (cc @Unionhawk)

@Wipqozn lol they are responsible for the site we're on
@Wipqozn hell yeah

There's another video of riot police removing their helmets and refusing to fight

Actually that reminds me of a funny story from yeeeeaaaaarrrrrsss ago, at the newspaper I used to work with. A food critic did a piece reviewing donairs in the city, and made a special point of pointing out just how terrible a specific places donairs were. That company did a lot of advertising with the paper I guess, so they complained. I guess the food critics response was "If they're not happy with my review, then they shouldn't serve me sewer garbage and call it a donair"
Or something to that effect
and I guess for the next few days there were full page ads for them in the paper. GOOD TIMES.

Here thread:
An organic, leaderless protest movement with no clear ideology has emerged in France. I've been waiting for this since 2011. Let me explain the French Spring to you.

Also a really good example of how the sales and news teams never even talk to each other.

I haven't had time to read it but 3 people on discord said it's good so

@Unionhawk I really liked the part where he said flipping over cars represents anger

@Wipqozn Yeah apparently it took their best scientists to reason that one out.
Interesting thread but still not sure what the "Cartesian premise of France" is.

I'm glad I didn't say "good analysis" now

@Unionhawk This...is certainly some words.

Straight up wrong - Medicare for All costs $32T over TEN years. Most budget + policy proposals are quoted for their ONE year cost. We almost ONLY discuss healthcare & education in 10-year numbers, to make it seem more expensive. HW Bush, meh! Picking a fight with the service dog though, ????

2:06 AM

Right? lol

He's going to be at Walter Reed now

2:29 AM
@TimStone i mean he lived to be 90 something, no dog lives that long

Ah, yes, but
> Does the photo say anything special about this dog’s particular loyalty or judgment, or is he just … there? Also, if dogs are subject to praise for obeying their masters, what do we do about the pets who eat their owners’ dead (or even just passed-out) bodies?
It's just...it's just bad
As @Unionhawk memed it's true but they shouldn't have said it!

@TimStone this is extremely weird as far as "GW bush is dead" takes go
@TimStone yeah, this

It's so weird!
Of all the things to write about

5:00 AM
Murkowski and Sullivan (Alaskan Senators) just got 10 full minutes on the local news on the earthquake, FEMA, and Trump's promises. Between the lines, the message was clear. "Yeah, we'll take the money. Alaska's economy can use the boost, but stay out of our way. The last few days have demonstrated clearly that Alaska ROCKS at emergency response."

@Unionhawk I feel like it's possible to read too much into things
Cars have also been upturned in riots originating from football games. Nobody is going to say those riots represent "upturning the cartesian premise" of football

11:10 AM
@Unionhawk Excellent. $5 million seems like a whole lot to spend on a dumpster

@Unionhawk I like her. I'll tell you what, let's make a trade. You give us her, and we'll give you, oh I don't know, some politician from Ontario
I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it:

11:51 AM
@Wipqozn I hope these protests don't escalate over the next 2 weeks. I'm going on a road trip holiday from Belgium to Spain in 2 weeks and my uncle who already went there had major delays from the various road blocks

12:11 PM
@Nzall The protests will probably start to die down now that the tax rise has stopped

2 hours later…
1:53 PM
@Wipqozn I'm not sure about that, actually. The petrol tax might have been the spark that lit the powder trail, but there have been a number of other causes that have made use of the protests to add their own fuel to the fire
Like, the students that joined the protests are upset about the budget cuts to education, the ambulance drivers are upset about the new rules for ambulance drivers that could cause 80% of them to go bankrupt, and a lot of people are not just upset about the petrol tax, but also about their low salaries compared to the cost of living
And Macron does not believe in dialogue apparently, and he really wants to push on hard with his rules.

2:26 PM
@Nzall Oh in that case I wish them the best of luck

2:40 PM
Cartoon for @chronicleherald #trade #USMCA #tariffs #Trump

Oh, did you see the bit where Trump signed the wrong part of the agreement?
And then asked where he should sign?
Also, he insisted on bringing his own sharpie instead of using a pen like the others.

3:12 PM
@Yuuki He cannot stand the attention not being on him

@SaintWacko It seems he signs everything with a sharpie.

@Yuuki Yep, he wants to make sure that his signature is the most visible part of it

Which incidentally, would've magnified the mistake he made when the leaders presented the signed agreements if it weren't for Trudeau keeping his version (the one where Trump made the mistake) closed.
Oh, he didn't ask where he should sign, he asked which one was the one that "matters" since there were three copies.
Of course, they're all the one that matters since each leader is supposed to retain a copy to take back home.

@TimStone @GodEmperorDune We even talked about this just a few months ago:

Like from Wikipedia it sounds like it was in charge of providing certain services and stuff, so I suspect a lot of it is "hey do we still want to give money to this stuff"

WE ARE ON STRIKE! After many months and hours at the bargaining table, Acero has refused to move on many key issues. Teachers will be on the picket line at 6:30 tomorrow morning. #FAIRCONTRACTNOW #UEJ @CTULocal1

> I remember waking up the first day of the strike and thinking what was all the deafening noise? It was incredible, and it was the sound of cars three blocks away honking and beeping in support of the teachers' picket line at my neighborhood school. MPs have voted to find Government ministers in contempt of Parliament for their failure to publish full legal advice over the EU Withdrawal Agreement backing an Opposition motion
lol

@Unionhawk So what does this mean?

the government has to publish the entire legal advise on the EU withdrawal agreement

I see. But it doesn't mean they need to disband or something like that, right?

No, just that they defied parliament by not doing this before
Please see my statement below regarding 2020.
folk's,,, hes running

> MPs accused of Contempt of Parliament may be suspended or expelled.[18] They may also be committed to the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster,[18] although this practice has not been used since Charles Bradlaugh was detained in 1880.

BREAKING: @LindseyGrahamSC says he went into briefing with CIA Director Gina Haspel believing #MBS was responsible for Khashoggi's death, "I left the briefing with high confidence that my initial confidence is correct."
He went further (per the thread) to say he can't support arms sales while MBS is in charge, basically
Which is arguably a dumb distinction but I guess whatever works
"I'd prefer someone who is less bad at assassinating dissidents to sell bus-targeting bombs to"

yea I don't know that you're going to get that
it's like 50 saudi jareds running the show/next to run the show

“You have to be willfully blind” to believe MBS didn’t orchestrate Khashoggi killing, @LindseyGrahamSC says. He says Pompeo being a “good soldier” last week when he said there was no direct evidence
lol, amazing
I appreciate Graham's commitment to taking absolutely no consistent position on how he deals with Trump's administration

@TimStone Look, I will only deal with competent dictators.

Also Trump retweeted Charlie Kirk saying the riots in France are due to leftist fuel taxes or something
@Birdyword @WSJ Mike how does the WSJ work on stuff like this? Do you just send out a vox pop reporter until you find a potential reader who will say that tuna smells of fish?
lol
The article is about how millennials are killed canned tuna because they don't own a can opener which is both absurd and also StarKist sells pop-top canned products so that's kind of an own-goal then if you don't want to make that universal if that's the supposed problem
@TimStone lol Jared's so bone(sawe)d
Corker is also out saying if this were a trial MBS would be found guilty of orchestrating Khashoggi's murder

Secret business dealings with the Russians. Boasts of millions from the Saudis. Americans deserve to know our President is acting in our interest, not his own financial self-interest, or because he has been compromised. Now, with a new majority in the House, we can find out. https://twitter.com/usatodayopinion/status/1069970833454567424

Oh wait @Unionhawk posted that already

> The president’s deception about his pursuit of a Trump Tower in Moscow, his refusal to disclose his tax returns and his opaque finances present deeply concerning questions: What else does he have to hide and, more urgently, who else knows about it? Was the effort to consummate a deal in Moscow the only financial leverage the Russians had over the president, or is there more?
Strong editorial
> The American people deserve to know that our president is acting in their interest and not his own financial self interest, or because he has been compromised by a foreign power. Now, with a new Democratic majority in the House, we should be able to find out.

@Unionhawk are these recorded phone calls and texts Alex Jones rants?

@Memor-X pretty much yeah
I am not a lawyer, but I would say that they're devastating to the defense's case
the commonwealth rested today, the defense will call 8-9 witnesses tomorrow, then one more thursday. closing arguments will likely take place thursday, and the case will be turned over the jury to decide guilt, hear victim impact statements, and then decide sentencing recommendations if he is found guilty

@Unionhawk Nice reference
