Mostly agreed, though you may want to make sure the couple is still together if you haven't spoken to the friend in a bit. A relative of mine sent a Christmas card addressed to me and my recently-ex-husband, which kinda sucked. — Kat 2 mins ago

@Kat: yes, that is one way to mess this task up. Sorry to hear that! I'd "boo" that, but I wouldn't want to have that be misinterpreted as downvoting the information provided. I agree it's important to make sure you're not opening wounds when sending holiday greetings! — baldPrussian 1 min ago

Do you have any (even vague) idea of what they would need your help with, and what you'd like them to help with? Can you be a bit more specific on what kind of help you would offer, what would 'helping them out' look like for you? — Tinkeringbell ♦ 11 secs ago

I'm not sure there are any sites that'd take it. ELL specifically states that it doesn't take "Questions that can be answered by a quick dictionary lookup", in your case, a quick Google search gives "It may refer to anyone who is non-heterosexual or non-cisgender" from the wikipedia on lgbt. — Tinkeringbell ♦ 20 secs ago

Good edit, thank you! :) One more thing: Are there any things answers should keep in mind, things that you've already tried and didn't work, or things that you thought of trying but think won't work for some reason? — Tinkeringbell ♦ 2 mins ago

@Tinkeringbell I would like to help them keep up with their studies. this is a person with a very good chance of getting into a prestigious institution, and they have worked hard for it. I'm worried that they might get too sad to study. — Micelle 2 mins ago

I don't understand why you need an acronym for "everyone" - perhaps that's the part that makes this an interpersonal skill? Are you concerned that heterosexual people are left out of LGBT+ and similar acronyms? Can you provide a reason for needing an acronym that doesn't actually convey any information? — Kate Gregory 24 secs ago

@Tinkeringbell Would our genders be relevant to the discussion? I tried to keep it general so as to help others too, but it's part of the reason why calling them up would be inappropriate. Also considering the cultures of the places we live in. In their region in wouldn't be so much of a problem to call up someone you do not know very well, but in mine, I cant really do that without offending some elders — Micelle 53 secs ago

I haven't really talked to them that much after the incident, it took place this morning only a few hours ago, they texted me and let me know just afterward. I've only told them to hang in place and if they feel like venting to call me up. they seem grateful but its hard to say over text . — Micelle 3 mins ago

The part about cultural norms is probably more important than knowing the gender of each of you, so if you want to keep it general you could just say you both have the same gender or opposite genders. If you can give a region/specific culture that might help get answers that take specific cultural norms into account, otherwise just the 'rule' that you can't just call them might do. I'll leave it up to you how much of that you want to edit into your post. Including the second comment as well would be helpful too! :) — Tinkeringbell ♦ 1 min ago
