Hi there, welcome to IPS. "Is this sexist?" is completely opinion-based, and therefore, off-topic for this stack. Please take our tour and read How to Ask to help you understand what can be asked here, and how (so that we can answer precisely). Interpersonal skills are behaviours we use to interact well with others, so, in order to help, we need a clear goal (that you define) and can then set a way to communicate. — OldPadawan 2 mins ago

This isn't a good fit for IPS as it's about intrapersonal issues — OldPadawan 1 min ago

So basically, dissociate whenever they're talking at you? Lol... I may sound flippant but have recently had experiences which confirm that any verbal response tends to exacerbate the situation. — DJG 2 mins ago

I’m voting to close this question because like our help center states, questions asking whether something is rude or not are off-topic. Instead of asking whether there is a problem, try to focus your questions on the interpersonal skills needed to solve a problem. — Tinkeringbell ♦ 2 mins ago

Thanks for updating your question! I just want to remind you that you're supposed to edit your posts and not make a new one each time, especially when a post is closed: deleting and reposting instead of editing is seen as circumventing system restrictions. One more thing: could you edit your post to include how the gift would be given? Would you be giving money or limiting them with e.g. gift cards? Would they be free to buy something that's not a new phone? — Tinkeringbell ♦ 2 mins ago

guessing implies a lack of knowledge... Does this imply that those who know the answer to said questions are automatically askers? — tuskiomi 1 min ago

Further, is this on a per-subject basis? I imagine that the interrogative behavior of people depends highly on the subject at-hand. — tuskiomi 48 secs ago

I'm not going to make a full answer, as I do think that this question should be moved to psychology, but the answer lies in that for the majority of humans, as much as the individual can deny it, what others think of them is more important than what the individual thinks of itself. — tuskiomi 2 mins ago
