Knowing where this is would be very helpful. The reaction of a German vs an American vs a Venezuelan would be very different. — baldPrussian 1 min ago

Be careful with the "what should we do?" part, as it's off-topic, do it'll attract DV and VTC. It would be better to first decide what to do and then a way to achieve this goal... — OldPadawan 48 secs ago

Can you provide any more information about the drunken person? Is it one of your neighbors or someone who you need to keep in good graces? Is he a transient? Is he older/younger than you? — John Wu 1 min ago

"While I get what they mean" - then you know more than we do :-) "I don't understand what they think the solution would be" - well you surely don't expect people who don't know you and don't know your friends would know what your friends think, do you? Did you already do the most obvious, that is ask those who talk to you what they mean? — puck 2 mins ago

Imo you're asking the wrong question. It seems your issue is that you cannot interact with women who show interest. Until you overcome that, nothing else will matter. — Kat 34 secs ago

@baldPrussian I think it's safe to assume USA based on the content of the rantings and OP's username. — Kat 1 min ago

It sounds like the person is mentally ill. It's doubtful any interpersonal skill will help. Police won't help either, sorry. Maybe turn on some sprinklers or something when he comes around. — Kat 2 mins ago

What your friends mean when they say 'lower your standards' is really up to your friends to clarify, not us. We're not mind-readers and we can't tell you what they mean. Asking us what we would mean when we say such a thing isn't a good question either: Good questions have answers, not items, ideas or opinions. "What would you mean when you say X" definitely falls under the kind of question where every 'answer' would be equally valid, which is discouraged in our help center. — Tinkeringbell ♦ 1 min ago

Hey John! Have you done anything yet to let this friend know what she's doing is bothering you, even if it's just as much as a grimace, eye-roll or off-hand remark about how off-key she's singing (does your friend know your opinion on her 'talent')? Or have you been lying about enjoying it and encouraging her? You say you don't want to tell her to 'shut up', do you mean you don't want to say the words 'shut up' or are you opposed to telling her/asking her to stop/don't start singing at all? — Tinkeringbell ♦ 1 min ago

I’m also going to vote to close this question because our help center says that questions shouldn't ask us for what to say, but focus on how to convey the message in general. What would your message to her be? Would you ask her not to sing along with movies, or not to sing when she's around you, or something else entirely? Do you want her to know she's singing off-tune, or would you rather try to avoid mentioning any reasons for why you want her to do this, or something else? — Tinkeringbell ♦ 1 min ago
