This doesn't seem more "opinion based" than a lot of other interpersonal questions. Or to put it another way, I think it's possible to articulate a logical position that makes sense based on personal experience, which is pretty much what all the answers on IPS end up being. — DaveG 8 secs ago

@refbobby - If you're in the US, your apparent beliefs about how rentals work are very different from how every rental I've ever been involved in worked. In rentals, if you don't explicitly have some facility in an agreement or a codified law (FHA, etc), you should assume you cannot do it. — Fake Name 1 min ago

-1 for feeding into @refbobby's entirely unjustified persecution complex. The shared areas are for shared living, not expanded hoarding rights. If there's no room in his room, he should be clearing out space as a personal choice, not bemoaning that he's enduring an "unpleasant situation" or whinging that his lease is "extremely wrong". You're just going to help get him evicted, at which point he'll presumably start fighting the police because "there are no signs" that say he can't store things in the park and the middle of the street. — lly 1 min ago

You can't lie in this kind of counterfactual. It's impossible. It's like if someone asks "Would you still love me if two plus two was five". The person asking you knows there's no way you could possibly know the true answer since there is no way you can figure out what that would actually change, and given no expectation of a truthful answer, a lie is impossible. — David Schwartz 1 min ago

As it is not IPS, I will leave the comment here. Your baker still does not get the ropes. Hardened people in the industry either trows it away, or recycles a part of the older bread for at least 4 kind of cakes I know of, and grinds it to sell to people bread "flour" for meat/rissoles dishes. However, I am not impressed I knowing that and not being in the industry, and they dont. They are not being professional. — Rui F Ribeiro 40 secs ago

All due respect if you're going to write answers about housemate shares, you should have experience with housemate shares. Shared bathrooms are extremely common, I cannot recall ever having a dedicated bathroom except one case where I rented the whole wing of the house. I think there is a reasonably right answer, to wit: If you dated them, or really like them, tell them as a courtesy. Other than that, you owe no one anything at all. Given the replies in this question, I asked if I could actually use the closet. He said yes, and asked why I even bothered asking such a silly question? @FakeName I mean in the sense I've never seen a lease that goes into such detail like "there is a bathroom on the top floor, the tenant can use it. I did housemate shares for almost 20 years, totaling over a dozen places. You're right, I wasn't clear enough: Storing anything in commons space can always be negotiated, but you cannot expect a whole lot of that. What's definitely wrong, in my experience, is your notion of "If I see space, just do it" -- particularly when "if I try asking if it's to put there she just says "no"." If that is the answer you expect, then I really don't see how acting without asking will have a more favorable outcome. — Harper 42 secs ago

I've rented rooms for upwards of 8 years, and am currently in a live-in manager position with renters. If a renter wanted to store large non-furniture items in the common-area, I'd expect them to at least discuss this with me before just dumping them in the common area. Realistically, I'd probably be OK with it, but if I came home and just found things dumped in the common-spaces, I'd probably be at least a little irritated. Tangential to your answer. A linguist here. white house/Whitehouse are distinguished in their prosodic stress. white house is always emphasized on house, like whIte hOUse or white hOUse, but the Whitehouse is not, and has the prosodic stress (sometimes, not entirely correctly, referred to as ictus) on one syllable only, whItehouse. While this isn't a proper answer (this would have better suited for the comments in either my question or the other user's answer), I have to agree. In fact, a few other of my friends, some of whom are also artists, tend to have this mindset; generally, if you're posting your artwork on sites for people to see, you're generally either seeking validation from others or are looking for criticism to improve (I personally fall into both of these catagories) — anony 15 secs ago
