@SevenSidedDie you're not making much sense. Questions don't have to contain problems. Most don't in fact. So I'm really not sure what the issue is.

I'm actually assuming there's something more to the question that's not obvious, because that's better than assuming there's nothing. With nothing else to the question, it's just a discussion prompt of the type that is off topic — a “hey peeps, what are your thoughts on what I should do here?” discussion-style post, not a Stack question.

Its a rules question.
It's like I'm asking, "Who founded America?" and you're responding, "We can't answer that without knowing what problem is causing you to ask."
Essentially, I haven't switched groups yet. I don't know what problems might arise or what rules there are on the subject. That's what I'm asking.

@Ryan It's a rules question? That's really not obvious. What rule? That's the kind of thing I'm saying is missing from the question. (I'm not aware of any rule related to this.)

@SevenSidedDie just making sure you saw the last thing I said, "Essentially..." since your comment came in at same time
does that clarify it better for you?

12:43 AM
@Ryan Okay, so if you don't know what problems might arise, what's making this one specific thing come to mind to ask about? It's not obvious why this is anticipated to be a problem; why you're thinking it might be a problem is an important part of everyone else understanding the question.

"Okay, so if you don't know what problems might arise, what's making this one specific thing come to mind to ask about?" - why does this make a difference?
I mean if I say, "I was just reading over my character page and got me wondering." is that a good enough reason? What about, "I started a Cleric in another group and it got me thinking?" or maybe "The DM of the original group told me my background and roleplaying isn't making sense."
like I don't know why any of these would result in a different answer?
(the last one, about the DM, is the actual situation)

@Ryan But why this one thing, and not… equipment, or alignment, or Background? Why do you anticipate the character's god, specifically, to be a problem? It's just really not obvious what the concern is that's prompting the question.
The question is missing the “why” behind it. I'm trying to find something to plug into that hole so the question makes sense to voters, which it currently doesn't.

12:59 AM
Well I already asked the old DM about equipment. I don't have any alignment. And I'm still working on background but don't think its an issue. So that only really leaves the deity as a potential issue

@Ryan So it sounds like you're thinking about every part of the character and not sure what would be an issue, but you're asking about the god (here) just because that's the one piece of the character you haven't already confirmed is fine. That's stuff that should go in the question.

why? you still haven't said what difference it makes

1:19 AM
@Ryan The question was closed. To get it reopened means working on the issues that made people vote to close it. (I guess I'm assuming that you want to see it reopened, but maybe that's not the case?)

Based on what you and others have told me the answer is "There's no real rules on it and shouldn't be any problems. So unless the new DM would prefer you switch bringing your old deity is fine. And if you aren't playing Cleric it makes even less difference."
and based on your own answer to my meta question, an answer like the above does not warrant "Primarily Opinion Based"
so I think it should be reopened as is but if you want me to edit it just tell me what to add. If it doesn't get reopened though I certainly don't mind. I never flagged it for reopening or anything
I mean, no offense and I'm really not trying to be difficult. But you still haven't said what difference this additional information makes on any answer.
Look at it this way:

"I was just reading over my character page and got me wondering."
--vs--
"Asking about the god (here) just because that's the one piece of the character you haven't already confirmed"
Do either of those make a different answer?

@Ryan The other trouble though is that a question closed for the wrong reason generally doesn't get reopened if there are other problems. Currently I think the right reason for it to be closed is “unclear” — I actually think it was closed as POB because people have misunderstood it. So to reopen a question, it needs to not match any close reason.
@Ryan It maybe doesn't make a difference to the answers. But if it stays closed because it's unclear, we'll never know if it makes a difference to the answers.

1:37 AM
@SevenSidedDie so let me understand. You want me to edit my question to include something along the lines of:

"I already confirmed other aspects of my character are okay. The old DM instructed me with what to do about my equipment. And I don't have any alignment to worry about. So I'm just trying to figure out if keeping my current deity is normal or if its preferred to switch deities to fit the new table's roleplaying."
Would that be a correct assessment of what you'd like?

@Ryan That's closer. I'm still not sure what “to fit the new table's roleplaying” has to do with the god though, so that makes me wonder if I still don't understand something about the question. (And if I don't understand something, I'm betting that other voters might not, and might just re-close it, out of confusion, if it was reopened that way.)

@SevenSidedDie exactly my point. Extraneous information doesn't clarify anything
if there is a way to reopen; it this isn't it
but im fine accepting its just not a great question and leaving it closed

@Ryan I'm actually saying that there's not enough information there. There are tantalising hints, but they're not completely explained.
Unexplained details are worse than no details, you're right, but this question needs more details because its no-details form is confusing all by itself.
If you're content to have it stay closed though, that's okay.

im always content. im a mod afterall for a reason. if I got worked up over downvotes or closed questions I'd lose my mind lol
if you think it can become a good question im happy to help work on it and add more details. I just dont know what additional details to add
you're a roleplayer right, so if you were at a Tier 1 table playing a character with a deity and then moving on to a new table when you hit Tier 2. And wanted to know if you should keep your deity or expect to get a new one --- how would you ask? what information would you include?
roleplay me ;)

@Ryan Hmm, I think based on this conversation I can give it a shot at editing it. I'm not sure myself if it will do the trick, so I'll have to test it by seeing if others vote it back open.

2:09 AM
@SevenSidedDie okay, let me know if you need me.

@Ryan Okay! I did the edit. Can you just check that I didn't get anything wrong in the process?

@Ryan I can give you my personal view of why stating the reasons behind your question matters. As the question is, even after d7's edit, I see you worried about something that I see no reason to be worried about.
I'm used to hearing about AL-like games in different editions and it was constrained to a single setting (Forgotten Realms), so the gods in a campaign were valid in every campaign in the league. Maybe AL has it different. Maybe you just think the god you chose is a poor fit for a different group. Knowing which is true would make me clear which answers could be useful to you.
