morning

mornin

how's life?

Meh
Yours?

Also meh, but it's almost weekend ;)

8:21 AM
meta.stackexchange.com/a/367972/369802 I went full-steam ahead and posted a random shower thought on a question that asks 'what does your community need'. Apparently people are now 'poking around' to see if it can get done... So I guess if someone really doesn't want it, speak up now in the comments there?

@Tinkeringbell Personally, for writing style, I would describe what's wrong or what needs to be paid attention to besides the this's, not in the next paragraphs
It's a bumpy start for the reader

Heh. Well I'll leave the writing style as is :P I was more asking for feedback on the general idea ;)

Okay, the mod thing really really stands out
Reminds me of that writing advice that says not to use any other colors much.
On a text-y site like SE, the mod and staff badges look . . . abnormal
Job done too well?

Yeah, I must admit I'm not too fond of my new mod badge on MSE, and I've upvoted a few answers suggesting alternatives :)

@JourneymanGeek Wow that was a fast comment to my post.
> Or should we get rid of niche sites, in favour of bigger sites all together?
Oh no what have I done.

But yeah, there are a bunch of times I've come across a question on SE or SO and went "Wait... why isn't this on pmse?" And the answer is almost certainly "The OP didn't know pmse existed".

ah
finding the right site is one problem
consolidation is controversial cause folks were convinced at one point that TPTB were going to basically kill off smaller sites

TPTB?

the powers that be :D

1:55 PM
Aah.

aka the folks who run SE
Generally used in reference to folks who arn't working directly with the community
Its something we used to use in an old battletech forum in reference to various FASA successors who kept the franchise going :D
I do think a generalised cryptocurrency site, and not starting more is a good idea tho
Buuuut
I think a better model of new community building isn't in scope for the time being

Fair. But that basically comes down to consolidating. If a site shouldn't exist, consolidate it. If it should, things can only benefit from stronger separation of concerns.
Having pm questions split between pmse, se, and SO is just as bad as having bitcoin questions spread out among multiple sites, imo.
Hell, even software engineering could benefit from questions being nudged to it from SO.

hm
they're related/seperate disciplines tho?
Project Management is high level, and Software engineering is kinda mid level and SO is... code?
and in some respects with the sheer size of SO, the seperate sites could have advantages if people knew about em

I mean... kinda? In theory pmse doesn't have to have anything to do with software at all. It just often does.
But when I come across a question on Software Engineering asking something, like, "We keep having Stories left over at the end of our Sprint, what do?", it just makes me sad.

3:10 PM
lol yup
so the solution is better awareness of sites
than Grand Unified Sites of Everything

3:23 PM
I believe so, yes.

Q: How do we kindly return a money gift from estranged family member?

Lee GTrying to be brief, but it's not, so bear with me. We live in another state from my family. We sent graduation announcements for our daughter with the sentiment to "asking for loving thoughts and prayers as she continues in her future..." This was a genuine attempt to communicate gifts are not ne...

4:50 PM
@ExtrovertedMainMan Oof, that one broke my brains.

5:04 PM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah reading it was kinda rough.

I think numbering the family members... but I didn't want to suggest that :P

I was linking of editing in Alice, Bob, Charlie, Dave...

Yeah. Well that can be attempted after clarifications ;)

5:26 PM
Don't think! dangerous business :P

I'm a GM. I can't not think.
Also it's kind of important to be a developer... sometimes.

True..
