Morning

Morning!
And happy corporate BS day! XD

A J
??

6:54 AM
Mailbox exploded with invites and advertisements again. It's international women's day after all, an ideal moment to advertise your company.

7:13 AM
Today's newspaper is also full of advertisements with just a small title "Happy Women's Day".

Yep. Most corporations take these initiatives to promote themselves. My company did the same for black history month, although there wasn't any history involved... it was like watching them have shark week without sharks, just so they could get some publicity XD
I should probably really find something more ethical someday...

If you have shared your birthday on a site, they will send you a list of products on offers on your birthday.

Yep. Which is why I never do that.
Or, at least with EU rules, you can mark that you don't want any e-mail advertisement/unsubscribe from all that stuff and then they're not allowed to send you any. :)

A J
Although, I have removed the birthday from most of the sites.
So, I get rare to none emails.

7:59 AM
Same here. If I do get e-mails, they are because I ordered things ;) I think the only 'newsletters' (read: advertisements) I get these days are from my 2 favorite online yarn/craft shops, 1 from a site with crochet patterns, and 1 from nintendo :D
@CoachDavidAdes And I'm looking forward to seeing more of you and your posts :) Always feel free to drop by chat again too, if you feel you could use a bit more explanation on how things go around here, or how the rules came to be the way they are :D

8:16 AM
morning :)

Afternoon! :)

8:42 AM
@AJ I get a dozen machine-generated HAPPY BIRTHDAY emails on 1 and 2 January.
Once I replied to one saying something sarcastic about how it felt extra special to be remembered by a perl script, and the site admin replied "you're welcome" -grin-

Do you have two birthdays? How nice!

A J
I can also celebrate my birthday on two separate days. One according to the Gregorian calendar and one according to the Vikrami calendar.
Although, there have been a couple of times when both dates were same.
@Criggie I get birthday messages from my Linkedin connections but not from Twitter followers. ;)
Since I don't have an account on Facebook, I don't get any message from there.

8:59 AM
@Criggie :P

9:56 AM
Today I saw a car with the same license plate number as my rep on IPS. ;)

2 hours later…
12:00 PM
@Tinkeringbell heh no - I just put 1 jan in for my birthday, cos its PPI (or is that PII?) and I don't give it out unnecessarily.

> PPI stands for Protected Personal Information. PII stands for Personally Identifiable Information.
:p

nod you get the idea.

yea

12:13 PM
@Criggie I knew that :P

5 hours later…
5:32 PM
hi

good evening

3 hours later…
8:17 PM
In the category "Stereotypes" XD

Stereotypes? What in the world are stereo types, are they like fonts that flow separately through left and right headphones?

Yeah, that's definitely it.

I bet my joke was one of the worst you have ever heard, but sorry I feel like I need more context to understand this image (more IQ points in case it is already clear).

Oh... it's a screenshot of the title of a spam e-mail I got :)
Does that help? :P

@Tinkeringbell Haha oh okay :D I was thinking it is somehow related to SE network and moderation and it made no sense :D

8:31 PM
Ah, no :) I thought it would make sense since there hadn't been any other talk than about spam mail in here since this morning :P

If there is any social expectation about what you're supposed to do differently on a woman's day, I don't get it
I imagine this stereotypical hetero couple where a women does everything but now she can relax and have it fair one day every 365

There isn't really. The day is there to "celebrate" the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women...
@ArthurHv Oooh waaay wrong :P That's what 'Mother's day' is for XD
This day is more for those women that don't want to stay home :P
So far, what I've seen from international women's day is:
a.) people patting each other's back, just because of their gender. Kinda like national compliments day, but just for women.
b.) corporations trying to advertise themselves as ethical, just, morally right, whatever you like, by writing something on an issue involving gender.
c.) corporations trying to make money off of it, without having to make a statement or do any virtue signalling... by offering discounts for example.

hmm

Yeah. Exactly :P
I'm not a fan. Because it does not seem to focus on remembering those women that actually made those achievements, like getting voting rights, abortions or birth control.

I think part of the problem reside in our own agenda and willingness to turn any meaningful event into pointless consumerism

8:42 PM
Yes, probably very much that.

I mean imagine being the son of God himself, and people celebrate your venue by offering each other some China made toys

He'd probably not mind, sharing food and giving 'gifts' was his thing too ;)

:)

But yes. If women's day wasn't profitable in some way, no one would be paying attention to it ;)
Same for Christmas, Easter, and everything else :)

It could be a good opportunity for political communication also, I imagine forgiving minor legal offenses to women, things like that
But even that I'm not sure it's done

8:45 PM
@ArthurHv That would probably count as 'gender based discrimination'.

....
but then

Yes.
You see where this is going? :P

.
Well ill just enjoy the discounts on the hoovers and dishwashers I guess

Yeah, in a sense this one is worse than Valentine's or Easter: After those latter two, the chocolate goes on discount!
Haven't seen any discounted chocolate for International Women's day.
