Q: How to tell a doctor or nurse to speak to me in technical details without being rude

KarlI have regular appointments with nurses and doctors due to a long term but not serious health condition. It's often a new doctor or nurse I see each time so I have to try to judge how best to communicate with each new person. I'm not a doctor myself, but a data analyst and I've been involved in s...

@lila I always have a bit of a problem with the term 'volunteer job' and usually reserve it to those types of volunteering that would, over here, give you a monetary 'volunteering dispensation' (and those also usually come with the requirement of turning up at certain times, instead of being able to totally make your own schedule).
So I'd say moderating on SE is just volunteering, not a volunteer job ;)

@Criggie ugh. I know the feeling
I have a bunch of things coming in from a few places - I ordered a new keyboard that's been in transit a week (and reached singapore yesterday and... crickets), a keypad (new keyboard is tenkeyless, and I figure it would be training wheels), and a impulse purchase of a knockoff surface dial....
I got the dial first, keypad's probably going to be in my mailbox in a day or two and... the keyboard, which is what I really want.... still in transit

7:15 AM
@Criggie those little screws for MTB cleats? hardware store had none

7:35 AM
@lila Well- I consider moderation a hobby of sorts. In a volunteer job, you still have some higher organisation telling you what to do.
If I work for anyone, its my communities, even if its at odds with what the company wants

T1 for "students" starting from €315k
is this a joke
it's lisbon but still

@CaldeiraG uhhhhh
I think its for people to rent out to students
> There will be a rooftop pool, 148 parking spaces and 40 bicycle storage points
....

@JourneymanGeek Well with this price you'd not be able to rent below ~800/1k euro a month

i bet it ain't having any great prices

Also...
> Round Hill Capital and the Americans from TPG Real Estate
REITS ruin everything

@JourneymanGeek That's way too little bicycle storage points.

9:23 AM
Considering its 2022 yea

@Tinkeringbell but. but. the pool
XD

Rooftop pool parties seem like a bad idea which will claim many casualties.

yep lol

Solution. Store the bikes in the pool

For that good old 'Amsterdamse grachten' vibe :D

It looks nice, but it's certainly very fancy housing.
Unless those are 'apartments' that you share with several roommates, they're indeed quite overpriced.

It says 380 beds for 300 apartments. But the average square meters for apartments look really high, they said its 27000 so that's 90 per appartment, I don't know if they count the "shopping area" and other commons, but it still leaves a lot of room and I'm really puzzled about the project official intended target

Rich students?
Maybe those kinds of students that are also already working... still, very expensive then.

yep
i could try and find listings

In France at least, but I infer it's the same in Lisbon, we typically refer "student appartments" as being 30 square meter or below
Otherwise its conventional housing
I don't know if you can find this many rich studend that want to live in that area
Which make me think they are more or less intending to sell a portion to people working, families and all

10:19 AM
this does not look like student housing
a T1 has 53-67 square meter
>
T1 Apartment
53 — 67 m2
• One ensuite bedroom
• Balcony with relaxing garden view
• Open plan living space and kitchen
• Contemporary interior design

@JourneymanGeek Needs more bike parks :)

Classy, might buy one if the price plummet from disappointing sales :D

Its a pretty crappy hardware store that doesn't have m5 bolts. I find the weird ovalised washers are hard to find, so when I swap out cleats I save the old ones.
Coincidentally - cleat bolts are the same thread as bottle cage bolts, so in a pinch they can be redeployed. I now carry a spare bolt and washer in my on-bike toolkit, if that one has cleated pedals.
....and I've just realised this is a different chat room..... sorry

lol
DIY or bicycles? :D

10:35 AM
@Criggie Have you seen the talk here? :P No need to be sorry.
Somehow this room went from 'third place' where people would post questions for close-voting, answers for deleting, meta discussions to be had and comments for flagging to just chatting about everything but those four things.
(and everyone seems okay with that so no worries)

@Tinkeringbell I mean... site activity also plummeted so it's not like it's as necessary as it was in the height of the HNQ days

@Mithical It may be even a bit more necessary nowadays, as there don't seem to be as many reviewers ;) But yeah, there's a lot less to talk about too, that's fair.

@Mithical well there's also that almost everywhere has an alternate space
same as SU
And there's no fresh blood cause chat is really hard to find

:D

10:50 AM
true that - chat seems to be the new blog.... deprecated.
and midnight comes stealthy creeping - good ngiht all!

\o

sleep well!

night :)

I've never gotten a 'no' as an answer and I don't think I would because it's not against any rules to tell me the numbers. The problem is more that they try to sidestep the question or "dumb down" the answer, which is perfectly understandable because most people wouldn't understand the detail I'm asking for, but I struggle with how to tell them that I will understand the technical detail because of xyz experience without coming across like I think I'm "a know it all". — Karl 18 secs ago

Pfew. Just ran into the downside of that answer I wrote this morning: People may think you understand too much XD
"Oh, I thought I was talking to someone from X department (a department full of professional AutoCAD users to help contractors fix their drawings), not a random programmer".
Oh no, sorry @Jeroen I forgot to comment on your Sandbox post!
It looks great to me :)

My git flow when I must publish a new version of a branch that has been reverted:
Base myself on outdated branch prior to revert, branch, commit the changes, realize that won't merge properly, so reset on dev, cherry-pick the commit prior to revert, realise I just lost my changes commit, panic, checkout a different branch in the reflog to cherrypick the commit I erased, then push the branch and make the MR.
I hate that tricky part that's not assisted by tools in our flow I always mess it up so bad before getting it right

What's 'a branch that has been reverted', is that merging branch A into branch B, but then reverting that?
Or is it committing a few commits to A, then reverting those commits?

The first one. It causes problems because if you want to merge A again, with some commits on top of it, since commits on A exist on B already, they won't be picked on the merge and you find yourself either in conflict or with just a part of the changes planned.
So you have to do clever tricks like cherrypicking or squashing so you get new commits id and tell git hey look this branch C that's has not been previously merged at all

Or undo the revert :P
Then merge the rest ;)

In our dev process there are two accepted ways to commit on dev, a MR, a revert of a MR, that's it. That's because we don't merge on the release branch, we cherry pick, so we must keep a clean record of what to pick.
So although there were much simpler solutions than mine (:D) I also think we have a bit of user friendliness issue between our requirements and this situation.

3:07 PM
Ahh that sucks! When we revert, there's a MR with the changes to revert... we can revert that as much as we like, it's just another 'revert of the previous MR'
@ArthurHv Definitely :)

@Tinkeringbell Oh no! How could you
Kidding! Thanks for your feedback, I'll post it :)

@Jeroen I only have one excuse... work XD

Hahaha fair enough

hi

Young people are invincible - its a trait of the young

Quotes from those covidiots include "as long as you keep a little bit of distance yourself", "There are rules and everyone shits on those", "I think we deserve this. It's not allowed but we're doing it anyways", "We're so depressed"
@Criggie I could understand that if we were talking 6 year olds. These people are supposed to know how to read and write and have had a LOT more education than that.
@Criggie I love your country, and if I wasn't a severe safety risk to it now, I would come over in an instant.
But no, over here we have to agree on everything first before we can even do simple things like curfew, then there's people screaming left and right that the rules are unfair because why can't all shops and restaurants reopen if the schools reopen? (Never mind that it's A LOT harder to track your infection down if you got it in a busy shopping street vs. in a school class)
People here are just BS dumb.
@lila Hi, btw :) How are you?

Yeah it sucks. I can sympathise with people who want to go bush and stay there for a year or two.
TBH that would be awesome with a decent internet connection.
