Morning people. Today at 8 pm, we will learn if we go into full lockdown or not. Also, earlier this weekend my father asked me to come back home in case of a new lockdown and I think I will do that. I prefere to be alone at my place but I don't trust me enough to take care of myself should I become unwell.

Also, announcing a lockdown when people are in the middle of holidays sounds like a messy idea, but...

From our perspective it seem lockdown announcement is very likely.

Over here, they're hoping to see a decrease/flattening of numbers before the weekend. Only if they keep increasing rapidly they might add measures before the weekend, otherwise the next press conference is next week on Tuesday.

+3299 new cases yesterday with 28 deaths, no lockdown planned yet, we will see

@ArthurHv If there is a lockdown, my money is on Monday. People are on holliday and they do have to come back home before the lockdown start. But they might announce a "softer" lockdown immediately and the "true" strict one for Monday

@CaldeiraG Honestly, here the issue isn't so much about the new cases but about the fact that we don't have enough hospital beds anymore

Like, half our beds are for covid, other are for "other kind of emergency" but soon they will have to choose between "saving this covid person or this car accident one"

Same here basically... we're paying a lot of attention to the increased numbers, but what those numbers really mean is that a few days later, there's an increase in people that are in hospital. And they're trying to keep 'regular care' like hip replacements and stuff going too, meaning they're basically becoming flooded rapidly.

Even though there aren't as many people with COVID on the ICU as in spring, the number of occupied ICU beds is rapidly changing and we're airlifting people to Germany again.

Yeah, but still. It means that Germany is doing "well" and you aren't (but France is doing worse so...)

It amazes me how we got there when you consider after first lockdown there was like 10 new cases a week

the virus is exceptionally fast

and ignores our safety measures quite well

@Ael Germany has a totally different system for healthcare, and much more trained ICU personnel and beds. They're not really doing all that well themselves I believe their numbers are quickly rising as well

well, as long as it can run on the background, totally fine with it

it will run on the background. The issue with cron is recovering crashes. Cron default behavior iirc is to send a mail to root

these will be local mails. You check them with some obscure command. Which is why recovering crashes with cron is difficult :D

there are ways to send them to your real mail but thats more advanced

either way if you are unaware of it, very easy to miss that your program is actually never launched properly

@CaldeiraG No, it will launch the provided command at given time regardless, so your script should be either shutting down and starting again, or just start if it is down but then have some way to know if it's already up and running

We have today 18280 new cases of the bug, I have the impression that it's maybe not a sudden spike since a month or so, but they are just doing more tests? Because much more people go to the doctor with normal cold and flu symptoms, as always in autumn?

So, my aunt called me. Long story short: I have finished stress-packing and will be kind of disappointed if a full lockdown is not announced x) (I am greatful that my aunt called by I wish she would have called later today because now I am full of stress and can't really focus on my work)

I mean, yes. But what is bothering me most is the question "will there be a lockdown" and "when" and if the lockdown isn't announced tonight then the question would still be there. But if the lockdown is announced then I will finally have an answer and it would definitively be a relief

Also, if there is no lockdown but I still go to my parents' I won't be able to use my big sister room because my big sister will visit. But if there is a lockdown, my big sister won't be there so I will be able to use her room

Yeah. That's definitely a good thing to do. I wonder what the numbers will be like here today, we have to wait a few more hours for them to come in. Part of me hopes they'll be down, part of me hopes they're up as well so we can just have the full lockdown already and I don't have to worry about my brother going out and partying with everything that has two legs.

Honestly, if there is going to be a lockdown anyway, I really hope it will be put in place before people go back to work/school after their holidays. IMO, not implementing the work from home after these holidays would be a disaster.

IMO, holidays are just big covid party followed by another covid party when everyone mix together again in school/at work

We have 4 days remote a week in our office currently. There was discussions right this morning to allow people to full remote. That doesn't seem popular with management. We don't know how we will react if we are in lockdown but expected to come a day a week for work.

Some want to disobey, some will take their office day off...

Yep! I'm planning on taking it on a first longer drive this weekend, fingers crossed. But so far... It has adaptive cruise control so highways (which used to stress me out a lot) are a breeze now because all I have to do is steer and watch out :)

Ours doesn't introduce any real lockdown measures, just closing gyms and the like, and just broadcasting Covid numbers non-stop in hopes that it will scare the idiot part of the population into not infecting everyone else.
