5:58 AM
I mean... y'all can keep talking, even if I go to bed! Morning :)

6:09 AM
Well half the people here go to sleep at roughly the same time as you, so...
I mean personally, I was awake for another couple of hours, but I was nowhere near chat... ;)

Awww...

Morning everyone

6:25 AM
morning you :)

JAD
I tend to only visit SE at work, so yeah

@JAD Now I feel bad for keeping an eye on SE pretty much anytime, except when I'm sleeping :P

6:41 AM
@Tinkeringbell I don't check SE if I'm asleep or training. Other than that, though, I've got an eye on stuff most of the time...

@Mithrandir I'm also not checking SE when getting coffee... and this office is starting to smell like grilled cheese sandwich...
Now I'm hungry (but only for tasty stuff)

I missed the fresh juices I used to buy when I was living in Budapest
It was like, going to college, then dressing up for a run, and then buy a fresh juice on my way home (well, not every time). I'm not even sure I did this very often but those are really good memories.
I miss my life abroad so much... Don't really know why tbh

I get breakfast each day when taking the train to work: A freshly baked croissant and some fresh orange juice :D I'm going to miss that if I ever get a car :)

6:58 AM
@Tinkeringbell ooh, that's nice! I used to do the same (but with granola yogurt, I hate croissants) when going to college before hopping on the subway :)
how's the driving going btw?

Slowly improving. I am getting new glasses soon, and I kinda hope that'll help me with better depth perception and make me a bit more steady.

JAD
that sounds familiar
the final trigger for me to get my eyes measured was driving into a one-way street without even seeing the sign

I can have a few lessons without any panicking at all now, but then there's the inevitable one where some !@#$ doesn't stick to the traffic rules, and I'll be spending the hour panicking at every little thing I have to do. :/
@JAD I'm failing to catch a lot of things thrown at me lately, and it seemed my eyes have gotten a little less bad. But I also had to do a bunch of other tests that made my head hurt... Eventually the optometrist said that what she measured was too little to put something special in my glasses, but that I might need it in the future, especially if my depth perception and faraway sight didn't get any sharper.

rpg.meta.stackexchange.com/a/9268/15211 Do we have a similiar policy in place here? Just so I know, if I shouldn't even make the effort and also consider possible license and copyright compliance of OP's while moderating posts.
As usually I have an eye on that.

@dhein What kind of copyright issues are you expecting on IPS? ;) Copyrighted pick up lines? :P

7:45 AM
Fun fact: IPS trusts me now ^^,

@Imus It shouldn't :p

@avazula I know right? XD

@Imus Cool. So now you're burdened with commenting on, voting on, and deleting NAA's :P

JAD
@Tinkeringbell burdened is a big word
it's not like you lose the privilege if you don't do it

@Tinkeringbell Wait a minute, I got to do more work? Time to downvote 22 times to lose this responsibility again :p

7:56 AM
@JAD maybe they should muahaha

searches for Tinks posts

@Imus or get DVed eleven times
@Imus serial downvoting ... that wouldn't work :p

@avazula As if anyone would downvote my awesome answers :p
I could write a bogus question to get some downvotes and get some badges in the proces. Isn't there one about deleting your own downvoted question or something?

JAD
@Imus answer*
I still have a bunch of answers sitting at -2, but I won't delete them, because 1) I gained net reputation from them and 2) they're not at -3 yet :P

@JAD Want me to downvote one to -3 so you can get the badge? :)
could be dangerous to post a link here, if someone else decides to troll you and upvote at the same time :p

8:06 AM
@Tinkeringbell Dont make fun of me now, I am already triggered enough :( So yeah, for example. Its not about what I expect, but about what routines I have while moderating to spot it. I do so and feel well about it. But if I have a find and no one cares I feel not valued and hence if thats the case I'd rather just stop the habit of having an eye open for it.

@dhein I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were in no mood for jokes :( I think we did have one q/a pair on IPS in all the time I was here were someone basically copied an answer from another website without proper attribution (but that's plagiarism, not the copyright stuff the rpg post was about). I would say that if you see plagiarism, certainly feel free to flag it, but I don't think we've ever had to deal with copyright issues yet ever....
Keeping an eye out for copyright violations might be nice, but mostly this means you'll be watching for plagiarism: The general guidance moderators get is that we're not there to enforce copyrights. If the copy right holder wants it enforced, they are supposed to contact SE, and they'll do it for us ;)

@Tinkeringbell I see. that makes more sense to me now, than the meta answer I got on rpg. (Despite it encapsules what you just wrote)

For what it's worth: I apreciate that you keep an eye out for it as long as you enjoy it. I personally wouldn't since it's really really unlikely that we would encounter it as a problem here. Plagiarism is a bit more likely and would be nice if you can comment on such post to also link to the original (or if you don't want to, handle it like you should with flags/comments in chat/idonno...).
If you don't mind taking that out of your routine it would be OK too.

8:22 AM
@Imus Right now I just feel like saying "screw it". But I know myself well enough to know I'll just act according to my new gained knowledge in the future. But still I am a bit disappointed about this treatment in regards of copyright by SE, as this means one can't really rely on expecting material found here really being under CC-BY-SA 3.0 as the use agreement would let assume. :x

@dhein You're welcome. There's also something about 'illegal' topics, e.g. movie piracy is off-topic on movies.se (from what I gather from their meta). But again, it's not really enforcing copy right laws, just saying 'this is illegal in most places, so off-topic here'. A bit like IPS said 'pick up artistry is rude at it's core, so it's off-topic here'

Well the meta on rpg also wasn't asking about enforcement. It was more about I commented on an answer that they are violating copyright and if they weren't aware they should consider changing that. Where as that comment was moved with a bulk of other comemnts to chat. After that I opened the meta asking for if it actually isn't wanted and the conclusion was, if I see such case, I am not supposed to even mention it. Its not the same as enforcement for my understanding.

@dhein You are correct that you can't be 100% sure in general. But when looking into any specific question/answer it should be clear on how it's written whether or not it's a copy of somewhere else.
Most nice posts here are written based on personal experience, so no copyright possible. If it's a quote, it's already advised to mention where the quote is from and explain how it's applicable in the situation. In those cases copyright is easily checked and quotes should be taken from the source instead.

@dhein Hmmm. Well, I think doppelgreener pointed out a good thing in the bottom line of their answer: it's okay to look for piracy sites, but apparently custom card generators are fine. I wouldn't worry too much, and just either ask the next person to attribute the images properly (like the OP in that answer edited in a link to the card generator).... or just let it be and save yourself some energy and triggers ;)

8:44 AM
@dhein meta.se has some posts on enforcing NDA's, or copyright, that might interest you: https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/94465/should-moderators-enforce-ndas-for-software-vendors/94488#94488, https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/19508/369802 and https://meta.stackexchange.com/a/195875/369802 make some interesting points.
But yeah, the outcome of all those is sort-of the same: It's quite futile to mention it. Plagiarism can be moderated (and flagged/commented), but copyright is something we don't touch :(
meta.stackexchange.com/a/305672/369802 < Last interesting link I forgot to add there.

A lot to read I have after lunch x) thanks for the links

Take it easy today :) And enjoy lunch!
Also, 9 people upvoted your meta question and your answer... Don't feel too unvalued ;) At least the meta question that resulted from your action is apparently a good one! I bet RPG rather has an user that might make a mistake then ask on meta and correct their course, than someone that never learns ;) (At least, that should be true for every site on SE!)

@Tinkeringbell Thanks for boosting xP

Q: How to ask my office to remove the pride decorations without appearing anti-LGBTQ?

johstoneFirst, for clarification, I am not anti-LGBTQ. My office has taken part in the Pride Month, which is celebrated throughout the UK in June every year. The month celebrations end in a large Pride march in London (this year, it was on the 6th of July). In the office there were usual talks and gath...

@Tinkeringbell I don't understand that tweet.

@AJ Just look at the image, what's wrong with that ;)
(The Tweet is Dutch yeah, and it already says what's wrong but that won't be funny ;) )

@Tinkeringbell au revoir?
That's goodbye in French.
Ohh, it is welcoming everyone, but saying goodbye to French?

@AJ Exactly :D
Pretty 'big' mistake :P FUnny :)

That sounds nearly unbearable.

@avazula Close to 30 percent here: Too many chats today (with coworkers) and I just wrote an answer :P

I left my laptop at home. That was a mistake.

Oof, yeah, that sounds like a pretty big mistake too!

Regardless of which strategy you choose you should probably not lead with "for clarification, I am not anti-LGBTQ.". I can't think of a situation where that reads as intended. — monocell 56 secs ago

got to love getting your answer downvoted without knowing why :)

You wrote it, that's enough reason, right? :P

Dang, gonna need some burn heal for that one XD

I don't see any flaw with it either... instead, there's another answer that has no back up :P

someone must have downvoted the wrong answer in a hurry

12:12 PM
That's probably it ;)

Coming from a workplace perspective, this will only make you look bad. If a couple decorations prevent you from getting work done, then I would take that to mean you are easily distractable and not putting in much effort at work. I understand the argument to make the decorations a business (and therefore money) problem, but I think this will backfire. — David K 58 secs ago

huh, a reason, guess I was too quick to judge

Hahaha Comments often do take longer to write than a downvote :P

I fully disagree with the comment, but that's another thing :p
on the plus side, only 2 more downvotes to go and I can get "Peer pressure" badge :)

Because if someone sent me that email, that's what I would think. Unless they move, light up, or make noise, no decorations should be enough to prevent you from doing your work. Yes, they might be annoying and an eyesore, but saying they are preventing you from getting work done is a clear exaggeration just so you can get your way. Just because the decorations got taken down doesn't mean that it didn't reflect badly on the person who requested it. — David K 49 secs ago

Imus : agree with @david-k as "decorations are distracting me from getting my work done" will not only make you look bad but may also backfire. Why? nobody will tell you directly, but badmouthing will spread all around fast. I've seen that happen before too... — OldPadawan 1 min ago

Q: Which date to engrave on a doljanchi birthday party favor

MonkeyBonkeyI'm getting some engraved party favors to give out to guests for my son's first birthday (Doljanchi) party. @ExtrovertedMainMan off topic

@Tinkeringbell your answer is the only one without a downvote now. Does that mean it's a good one? :p

@Imus Mine has a downvote too, but an up as well ;)

Hmmm. I can crochet those, perhaps :P

@Mithrandir here's one now upvote my answer please! :p
I asked for an UPvote, not a second downvote -.- urgh, the nerve of some people not accepting my fake payments!
Just need 1 more to get my badge :)
curious if there's a correlation between this being an LGBTQ post and the voting behaviour ....
how long till it hits HNQ?

@Imus I mean, I probably should upvote more... I've only cast 80 upvotes in the history of the site...
@Imus With the current score of the answers? Unlikely.

how's it decided which posts reach HNQ?

Number of answers and their scores, largely.

1:17 PM
@Mithrandir I have given 755 upvotes and 6 downvotes
Curious meta question: If someone (not me ofcourse) were to make a new account. Give me a 3d downvote on my answer. Then I delete my answer to earn the badge. After that the someone deletes their account invalidating the downvote. Do I get to keep my badge?

I think so yes. I don't think there are any badges that are 'retracted'.

Interesting ...

A: Is it possible to lose badges?

AarobotNo, badges are never taken away. That's part of the site's design. However, if you no longer meet the criteria for a badge (say your "great question" got busted back down to 99 votes), then you won't earn another one of those badges until you "catch up."

@Tomalak: That's an interesting question and I believe you technically can. If you get upvoted 100 times on a question, then slip back to 99, then get 100 upvotes on a different question, you won't get the badge for the second question. But if you then get back to 100 votes on the first question, I think that the second badge is awarded then. I'm not sure how it works internally; now that the system tells you which question a badge was awarded for (if applicable), it would be interesting to test this out and see if the second badge is linked to the second question or first. — Aarobot Jul 22 '10 at 16:38

Good to know :) and sounds fair

A: "Nice Answer" badge roulette

Nick CraverThe "make up badge" is no longer the case - we will appropriately award badges now for things that qualify as they qualify completely independently of past badges. The old code literally counted badges, did a diff and assigned new ones...all badge queries now get and compare each individual caus...

I think that summarizes it :)

I learned today that our workplace is way laxer than most others :o

haha that's a good thing to be I guess
when it comes to such things

they did get a comment that they're no longer allowed to do that throughout the hospital though, only on our own floor :(

@Tinkeringbell Monsters, Inc.?

Since certain people might take those as a statement against religious headware ...

@Imus I'd totally do that

@Mithrandir Yep! Bought at Disneyland :)

@Tinkeringbell (I haven't actually watched the movie yet I just know stuff about it)
Nice, though!

@Mithrandir you totaly should :)
although I might be biased into liking disney movies a lot XD

hmm, too much effort getting the links in

wont work, links are shortened

Pffft... I'll ask a mod :P

quick test:
too long by 81 characters
well, that sucks
@Tinkeringbell like this?
(see question)
Had to split it in 2 cause it was too long though

@Imus That's strange... I can edit it and make it fit in one :/
Secret moderator power! :P

might be with how the links work maybe? In 1 post mine said 81 chars too long
the 2 comments are fitting I think. They're each telling something different yet important

7:03 PM
Yeah but it's easier to put one in the 'pinned' list by voting on it, than two
What links did you use? The one you get by using 'share' underneath each post are somewhat shorter than the ones you get using the url from your browswer ;)

7:17 PM
@Tinkeringbell they are cute

@ankiiiiiii Thank you :)

@Tinkeringbell that might explain some things. Used from browser :)

@Imus you should complain about that issue by starting discussion on the meta not here in the comments. — Džuris 13 secs ago

@IPSCommentBot Yeah @Imus stop complaining :P

XD
awesome

7:30 PM
@Džuris Just to let you know too ;) Imus isn't 'complaining', it's a generic comment we leave on HNQ questions with a goal of informing new users (network visitors) that IPS may be a bit/lot different than what they're used to :) If you have any thoughts on rephrasing it, so it sounds less complain-y, feel free to drop them here, in chat, or on our meta :)

as a complaint about those rules. As it should be.
Btw is that toxicity score mine? I could get it a lot higher if you stopped deleting comments :(
