@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ This was one ofmy favorite book when I was yonger. But I read it 10 years ago, so I don't remember much about it anymore (except for the fact that I loved Bartimeus and I would definitively called my robot like that ^^)
@Tinkeringbell A mod should definitively go and reasure this user that we don't ban users for one bad question!

7:47 AM
@Ælis I'm not the parrot, but I left a comment. (Since it's only a side point, not an answer, and it's meta where comments work differently, I don't think it's an issue.)
On an unrelated note, why is interpersonal.stackexchange.com/review/low-quality-posts/17131 in the LQP queue? It seems to directly answer the question and contains relevant personal experience as backup.

8:12 AM
@Mithrandir personal exp was not included when i reviewed it yesterday

1 hour later…
9:25 AM
@Mithrandir Looks good ;) Thank you!

1 hour later…
10:35 AM
"suspended for a year for asking phrasing requests" Holy crap. I knew @Tink is brutal but I didn't know she was that brutal

One does not mess with the parrot
also one dosen't typically morris dance into mordor immediately get a suspension
There may have been one or more warnings, gradual ramping of suspensions....

Oh Em Gee fourth candidate!
I saw it first.
IN UR FACE
Or rather, second, the nominee themselves saw it first.
@JourneymanGeek When you aim the gun at a zombie, aim for the head first.
That's an interesting outlook on moderation.
Oh, and NVZ has the most candidate score since Trump. This just got interesting

10:59 AM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ actually not really
headshots are hard
since zombies don't duck what you really want is cover fire
then pick off the ones that survive
headshots are intensely hard
center of mass should slow them up enough to make em easy pickins.
PERSONALLY what I'd want in a zombie apocalypse? Mine flail

@JourneymanGeek Have the subject sit still and use a tripod. Also, make sure that you remember to focus when you zoom.

@Mithrandir actually...
even when you shoot staticish targets at known positions, its hard
a tripod might help
well a bipod anyway

Don't use a wide lens.

11:23 AM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Urf. I guess that means I get to write my first critical mod candidate comment.

11:43 AM
@Tinkeringbell Oooh, this just got REALLY interesting

Yeah, I'm kinda breaking my own 'there's no drama if you don't start one' rule, but to me this feels important enough :/

eh
there's a long history of folks gently saying someone might not be the best candidate
and contrarivise

@Tinkeringbell Eh, I'm just messing around. It's vital to be critical of candidates, especially as a mod.
@JourneymanGeek don't you steal my eh
You're gonna end up working with them after all.
In light of low activity
@orthocresol I wouldn't mind having something to keep me more regularly drawn into the community -- but I've spent so little time around lately, the last thing I would want to do is get myself elected, and then not be fully invested in staying engaged. Have been too drawn to Python stuff and IRL music lately. — hBy2Py Mar 14 at 13:38
Chemists are cool like that.
Comments aren't kept around because they're not heavily regulated, analogous to elections IRL, and they could skew the results. But I sometimes wish at least some were kept around.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ try and stop me. ;p

This is not going to end well, methinks. :/

11:55 AM
Eh, everyone knows Singaporian eh is never as cool as Iranian eh.
@Tinkeringbell methinks youoverthinks
Has he answered the questionnaire thing?

@Tinkeringbell Well, no one said it would be easy

Either way, it's pretty natural to criticize a candidate in SE elections and also natural for them to respond to the critique.
In fact, his response will shed some light on what kind of mod he would be.

Sometimes people even critisize you after you become a mod ;p

Frankly, and I can tell this to his face, despite my last interactions with him going long back (on ELL and ELU), I don't think he's up for the job.
Rather, the type of mod I'm looking up to.
IME, someone like him, if elected, would enthusiastically devote their whole time to the site for few months, then burn out and disappear.
@JourneymanGeek No way, that only happens in movies

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ ... wait what?
They make movies about moderation?
Its kinda the most boring thing on the internet

12:00 PM
What, you're living under a rock or something

Some of the time

@JourneymanGeek You're too used to it, Clint Eastwood

the moon is a rock

Oh, you're gonna play that game. Define "under", then.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Well, sometimes the moon is under me

12:02 PM
Hey hey, we all know about your relationship, but you don't need to be so outspoken about it. Haha
Bah dum tiss

IPS - Inter Planetary Skills.

Wait. So is moon feminine, or masculine?
It could be neuter if you're German.

Oooh, depends

Or Dutch maybe. AFAIK Dutch is a weird German accent.

In most western ones, female, india male, china... its a rabbit?

Lies. Its made of cheese

Not a very feminine look. Not too Bugs Bunny either. It could be Elmer Fudd.

Pfft. I'm going back to crochet.

Being crochety are you?

12:20 PM
@Tinkeringbell As I said,
23 mins ago, by M.A.R. ಠ_ಠ
In fact, his response will shed some light on what kind of mod he would be.
Usually higher rep is a big boost to votes. Another important factor is recent activity, really, if people remember you. Then it's candidate score, but I figure it's usually not as important as it seems. In case of this Eeps election, most factors are close enough for all candidates so it becomes really hard to predict anything.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Dropped one last comment there, I'm done. They're almost making me take a break from IPS again.
I guess if they end up elected, the CM's get to call up the runner up as well.

Objectively educated votes are unfortunately relatively uncommon, because how many people are avid reviewers, editors etc.?
@Tinkeringbell Oof, keep calm and crochet! Sounds like he left a bad taste from earlier interactions with you, but then I'd just ignore this certain part of the election and move on if I were you.
He's less than 25 % of this election, remember. It's been fun till now, you can wait till nominations are over and so are the talks.
Then vote in the real election, and be done with it. Go have fun. Make another one of those enviable penguins.
@Tink Actually I think you also made a parrot but I never got to see it

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ 9 parrots, actually. Lemme grab that image board link.

Q: How to not manipulate the ones close to me

AerehWI'm a bit unsure, on how to actually describe and ask this, so I might edit the question a few times. So lets try. For my background, I'm rather happy with what I do and who I am. I've got a good relationship to my family and my closer friends and am respected and (at least I feel and hope so) w...

Nine
Wow. Reminds me of that Tim Burton movie
It was dark, I liked it.

12:31 PM
Hey, why is it giving image not found errors?

It wants to be uploaded to pasteco?
Oh, it is pasteco
Sometimes they say "image not found" but when you click on it it works

Okay, one last time then.
Yeah, you'll have to click

Yeah it works when I click on it

Those are the 8 I made for my coworkers, with their evil penguin overlord.

Ooof yeah, first thing came to mind is Sauron and his nine servants.

12:33 PM
pasteboard.co/IjG7YsV.jpg < That one is mine

They're here to take over. Resistance is futile

It's not in the group pictures because I only finished it yesterday...

@Tinkeringbell King of Angmar

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ King of Vodka ;)

From the land of pink wolves, I wonder where that is
Or is that purple? Or Magenta
Or light violet. Why do we need so many words for colors again

12:35 PM
Looks brownish to me
It might also be reflecting some reddish glow from the parrot wing?

Either way, I found a beautiful wallpaper!
Not the vodka thing. What would my parents think of me.

@Tinkeringbell ... its a blue parrot

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I gave away the red one :/
I am thinking of some day making one that's entirely red ;)

@JourneymanGeek The red is the blood of her enemies

BTW, it's mostly yellow

12:39 PM
Gushing, dripping as everyone trembles in fear
Apr 6 '18 at 20:33, by NVZ
@Tinkeringbell Quite the opposite. I'm finally at the dream job. Soon going to meet the girl in person that I'm some day going to marry.. :D

I thought we were calming down and talking about crochet.

Nah just some context

Not sure that's context ._.

Context for . . . his comments?
Whoa wait, does this thing work? context.reverso.net/translation
@Ava can you confirm if that works correctly ^ in English to French, or is it as dumb as Google translate?
(I'm assuming it's got to be the most accurate since it's the default option)

A: How to Address My Weight in Conversations With Friends

Jess K.Background: I have a friend who is fat but confident and happy with her body, and below are what I have found helped myself and others understand that she is happy and has no desire to change. Overall, the best way for you to convey your comfort with your body image is by your tone and the langu...

Interestingly, IIRC snailboat mentioned that there is actually ongoing research about the fact that longer words tend to be more polite
Think I've mentioned that before here. Anyway, "fat" has some nice potential to be rude

12:57 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I'm a bit skeptical

@avazula The Arabic I know is a bit literal so I couldn't come up with complicated usage examples but I think it just mashes words together.
Now I want mashed potato.

@Sid Shucks, can't see the image. I'm assuming you're being sarcastic though.
Because if it's not dumb, it's stupid. And if it's not stupid, it's incompetent.

Sid

Still can't. I.stack.imgur is blocked here

Policy question: Would a comment that's asking for clarification (but has received none) for a VERY long time, like more than 10 months, be considered obsolete?
Same goes for mod announcements (usually "don't chat in comments or I'll smite you with Mjolnir"). Say, HDE had to make such a comment because the question was in HNQ and everyone felt their social or political opinion is important. But it's been a few months since and the whole thread is stale

I would say leave both. The first one is a good pointer as to why something maybe should not be upvoted, the second one can't do much harm.

@Tinkeringbell ✔
It's amazing how many different questions end with "should I tell him/her?" and answered with "waiting helps no one, definitely talk"
interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/22065/… — This question should probably have [internet-etiquette] or somesuch
The answer might vary for online and real-life experiences
What with the increased anonymity online

1:47 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ We have a :P

@Tinkeringbell I see the culprit in the first question with the tag
LOL, that title
It's definitely against etiquette not to be a jerk on FB
Oh, different question. Still

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ don't worry, I found a better group :P

Sooo, @Tink, would this comment be obsolete? interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/6817/…

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ nope, because I haven't answered it :P

@Tinkeringbell Also I think I saw a comment like that under a question from a now-deleted user

1:52 PM
Ehmm. Edge case :P

I have successfully suggested 2.0000000 edits by going through 20 posts. At this rate, I'll be able to vote by the end of next next next next election.
Actually first edit is really trivial, it could be rejected

Just write an answer!

Well, my personal experiences deviate quite a bit from other people. Unless someone asks about hostility of their fellow kindergartener
Wait. I was the hostile one in kindergarten
I have an uncle who was really interested in boxing and martial arts then. I remember I headbutted the kindergarten teacher when she tried to take away my toys and share it with others.

In other news... I ordered new headphones yesterday and forgot to check delivery times, so they're now being delivered on Sunday, which makes my very religious parents mad :/ I have to get away from the PC for now, they'll arrive within the next two hours and if they have to be delivered to the neighbours because I miss the bell when sitting upstairs, I'm grounded :/
See ya (hopefully soon)

Also headbutted a guy that worked in our pharmacy back then. The guy's nose bled
@Tinkeringbell tot ziens
Oh my God that sounds so fancy.

Q: Should one acknowledge a silent fart in a one-on-one scenario (with a dog present)?

Slow lorisIn general, when a silent fart occurs in a group, I believe it is up to the farter to decide whether they will claim the fart. If they do not, then the polite thing for others to do is to allow the fart to remain unclaimed. It gets more painful when there are only two people. The silent fart no...

@Ava you here?

What's the policy on editing out "edit:"? They're noise in my homeland, but I need to check. Obviously I'm not talking about the edit people make to their posts, but the notices, like "update:", "edit:"
They're useful to signify the chain of events, basically, the chronology: I posted, they commented, I edited.
But would they make much sense if the comments are incorporated into the questions, themselves being rendered obsolete?

4:42 PM
Edit 'em out. Incorporate the edit into the main body, and flag the comments as obsolete.

Wow, I noticed this OP inserts double spaces after each period. interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/21681/…
Do people still do that

5:20 PM
@Tinkeringbell your parents still ground you?
Ooh, I missed all the election drama while moving

@Rainbacon I didn't want to say they'd kill me ;)
@Rainbacon "I have more time now, so I'll nominate" + "I don't know if I have the time to write mod questionnaire answers in time" :/ Basically it.
But the headphones arrived in good order and they have good sound/fit.
So I'll have some coffee with my grandparents and hope they go home soon, and I can enjoy them a bit later tonight.

5:36 PM
That's exciting! We just brought the cat to the new place. She is not happy about it

@ExtrovertedMainMan Is this sufficiently on-topic now? I am not familiar enough with the nuances of the site to be certain.

6:31 PM
@Rainbacon it'll take some time for her to adjust but she'll soon love it I'm sure :)

@bruglesco The title is still definitively off topic (didn't read the question yet, not sure I will have time for that tonight)

Fedora was confused for a couple of days and then she was so happy with the new home

@avazula Except she still doesn't walk in the grass because she is afraid of it XD

@Ælis I forgot the title. I suggested an edit to fix it.

@bruglesco People always forget title (and tagging too, but that might be because they don't know how to tag ^^)

6:51 PM
@avazula yeah, she's currently hiding under the bed, but she stopped crying, so things are improving

@Ælis tagging is a little harder. But yes I tend to forget both of those things.

7:13 PM
@Rainbacon aaaw...that poor sweetie...
I wish she gets better very soon :)
@Ælis my cat may not be the bravest but she's perfect okay? XD

8:11 PM
@Tinkeringbell I'm jealous. I got a pair most recently and they sucked. Earphones though, I usually consider headphones to be an overkill

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I have two pairs of headphones, one headset that's wired on my PC and a Bluetooth pair for travelling.
Much, much better than earphones!
Keeps your ears warm when it gets cold too

@Tinkeringbell Can you go jogging with headphones tho

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I don't move.

Telekinetic?

Okay, I move very occasionally :P
But not fast.

8:18 PM
Headphones kill my head if I have them on for too long... they squeeze your head.
I use them for recording, that's it.

Oof, I posted an answer I'm kinda proud of. Not here though
The Eeps ice hasn't broken for me yet
It's weird that I feel competent enough to give medical advice, but not enough to give Eeps advice

Not surprising, IPS has very strict standards :P

M&TV does seem pretty lax, compared to other places. Or maybe I just don't think high enough of Ankit, heh

Q: Does animal tranquilizer really work as fast as we see on Dexter?

sanpacoIn the television show Dexter (2006-2013) whenever Dexter captures one of his victims, he does so by injecting them with a syringe of animal tranquilizer. Usually we see him inject them in the neck but there have been several times where the potential victim notices him first and he injects them ...

"realism" is probably going to be my favorite tag
@Mithrandir Are you implying something. Squints
Yep, you're implying something.
Gotta eat something before I can decide what it is though
BBL

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ What I'm going to say is, I think, important beyond any single candidate, but yeah, burnout is definitely something whoever gets elected is going to have to watch out for. I think Shog once said that that certainly happened on The Workplace, and I think it happened a little for me, too. This is a, uh, challenging site to moderate; I'm glad we've got such a cohesive team keeping it clean (and that it's about to get bigger). The more mods, the less work per mod, and less exhaustion.

8:36 PM
@HDE226868 I'm trying to find something to disagree with and argue about but I can't. You're no fun

@HDE226868 Is the "official mod" workload really different (and bigger) than the community mod workload?

@Ælis It's different, not necessarily bigger. It's gotta be significantly bigger in this case though since it's Eeps and its comments
There's also the fact that an official status like that is that like awarding you a badge of emotional attachment. A regular can go offline as soon as they want, but a mod is, by definition, more invested

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ People say that about me a lot. ;-)

That sounded intimidating. What I mean is, it's not like you'd have to sacrifice any part of real life, but at least invest like 15 minutes everyday to handle flags and stuff

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Yeah, I believe I will be affected by this emotional attachment too

8:42 PM
And the stuff part can get you. Like a meta crowd that are being idiots about something.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I'm already doing more than 15 minutes every day to handle flags and community mod stuff ^^

Or the batman out there trying to prove you're an evil overlord whose world conquering plan starts with moderating a site on the internet.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I have already been accused of that x)

@Ælis That's kinda hard to quantify, as @M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ said, but it's certainly significant, especially with only a few people to do it. It was never overwhelming, I found - maybe in the first few months of the site, I guess - especially now that the community is growing larger and there are more people reviewing, flagging, etc.

@Ælis evil overlord? Hides a laser gun behind his back

8:45 PM
There was a sharp decrease in work after we left the HNQ, and I'd imagine it's increased again a bit now that we're back on it (I assume Tink or one of the other mods can confirm/deny that), so it does depend.

@HDE226868 Well, I can confirm that from my community mod point of view (but, so far, it's really manageable)

@Ælis I'm glad to hear it's been easier on everyone.

Also, thanks for sharing your experience with me/us :)

Thanks for moderating and running! I like how the election's been going so far - it's much less dramatic than I thought it might be.

Still waiting for something disagreeable
Aha! I don't like how the election's been going so far.

8:49 PM
@HDE226868 Well, this last nomination was kind of a major plot twist, though ^^ But yeah, I was also worried that people would use the election to complain about our back up policy

Dangit, that's subjective. Can you deny climate change or something.

@HDE226868 Yep, there's been more flags and commenting to delete since HNQ return, but so far we've managed fine because the community is doing most of the commenting/flagging/deleting it seems. It's not the chaos of having 5 bad questions and answers in HNQ simultaneously that you were used to ;) citation guidelines, the 1 question limit and the 8 hour delay all seem to help a lot too

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Uhhhh . . . the entire mod team should be replaced by the next thing Tinkeringbell crochets.

@HDE226868 as in finish the one I'm working on now, or the one after that?

@Tinkeringbell Your pick.

8:51 PM
Oh, Tink's next project is an SE mod.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I'm denying your very existence right now and telling everyone that you are just a product of our collective imagination :p (so, how are you gonna prove me wrong??? :p )

Well, can your imagination do THIS
does THIS

:p

@HDE226868 The current one is an oversized dragon bookmark. I think I can do better :P

Case closed. Sips coffee

8:54 PM
@Tinkeringbell Oooooh. That sounds amazing.

9:14 PM
entire mod team is now crocheted parrots
