@ElizB I think clearing out brush and dried leaves and such does help prevent fire from spreading in general, but yeah... not really practical. this post on outdoors se has a lot of good references on the subject :)
I was going to the list of tags in the main site when I notice the "approach" one. Here is its description:
For questions where the author is looking for a way achieve their goal. Such as to properly convey certain feelings or to inform someone about a problem.
This tag is used on 55 questi...
Nope. So hard to write. I have to explain why I wanna change names but it's very personal and I'm not comfortable explaining strangers from the Ministry that my father never took care of me. So I'm back to work and I'll deal with it bit by bit throughout the week :p
@avazula I'm a bit stress, I have to phone the agency of my apartment because of several problems with my flat but they aren't answering and I also have to write them a mail and I don't like the fact that I have so many problems with my new flat ><
When was the state of play done? In case you don't know, you have 2 weeks to ask for its edition should it not correspond to the actual situation of your flat
@Noon I may recall it wrong? It's worth checking again. Anyway, I hope it'll get better and that it doesn't use most of your energy for the day. These situations are so exhausting :(
@avazula I haven't plan anything else important today so it will (probably) be fine. But yeah, I'm happy I didn't start work already (I'm starting next week)
@avazula Yeap, I'm mostly worthless in the afternoon. I even have a rule for myself who say: "don't code in your last hour of work, you are only going to break things/make it worse"
@avazula I find that it's really a shame that people can't decide to work half-days for half the salary. I would say yes to that without thinking twice (granted that I would still work as an computer scientist, that is)
@PeterCordes : I think the idea behind that is more like "you did something I don't like, so I'll do this (that you don't like) to you". ie. you unplugged my monitor? I switch yours on! — OldPadawan18 secs ago
@JAD @Noon On the other side, it seems that here in some companies, people expect women past a certain age (let's say 30) to work 80% max. I don't have a single female colleague older than 25 working full time.
And the person who accidently killed her had a panic attack because she had to take her daughter to the physician and people were blocking her and hitting her car
@JAD I may sound very keen to conspiracy stories here but I don't trust the news. I listened to one of the news channel owned by the State the whole morning. The death happened around 10:30AM. At that time the news claimed the "killer" panicked and that it was an accident. 30 minutes later, the same news was saying that this woman got killed because of the violence of the protestation. The whole story completely changed in only half an hour...
And today, I read this very interesting story. Scientists trying to figure out why the wombat's faeces is cube-shaped. The answer might have to do with fluid dynamics. It's the way their intestines are shaped.
@avazula Well, you have to agree to it, but yes :D Also, we need at least 6 other co-presidents so that we can work no more than 4 hours a day, 5 days a week!
@WillHunting Haven't you ever saw tags on high bridges, that make you wonder how did anyone got there?
@Noon Yeah, maybe it'll work better. I realized that when people ask me how did I find out that I'm an aspie and what's different for me in the everyday life, they think that I have the same issues as anyone and that I'm just too sensitive.
@avazula You can always try to edit in order to "fix it". Like "How can I talk to my SO about this double standard?" or "How can I ask my OS to stop this double standard?"
@JourneymanGeek Yup. Which is why I think that editing + comment notifying is the best approach here, yes.
@Noon Please do then :) I'm of little shape these days, I skipped quite a bunch of answers in the VLQ review queue this morning. I'd not want to make mistakes here.
@Noon Thanks dear :) Oh, don't worry about me, it's just like Kiki in Kiki's Delivery service, sometimes you have struggle practicing your skills. But it gets better eventually :)
Let's burninate!
I went through the first page of results for questions tagged with "approach", and it seems that there are two main patterns of usage of this tag:
questions on how to approach someone about something,
questions that use the tag because they're asking for advice on how to appro...
@Noon Huh, so you already know a bit what it's like :) and IIRC, you have some family nearby Paris too, so you still have someone you could turn to in case of bad days :)
The more I think about it, the more I think we should start a company that'd be some kind of paradise for people who don't want to do 9 to 5 / who don't want to socialize on lunch breaks / who could have some not-work-related breaks without having to justify themselves / ... . Hahaha
@avazula more like code, read docs, search SO, code, code, refactor, read docs, compile, debug, test, code, code, read docs, search SO -> interspersed with random social activity on SO
depends on the setting you make, if you say when you close the lid it shuts down, then it will stop, but if you set it to sleep or not do anything the music will keep playing
@WillHunting No, this has not been a problem before. I've got a couple ideas supplemented by a bit of research and I'll look into them when I get home.
Context: I'm bad at math. My dad makes me do extra math practice every day to catch up (he says that I'm "so far behind").
Problem: I'm honestly putting in my best effort. However, my dad doesn't believe that my poor academic performance (especially math) can be due to genuine stupidity and is p...
@scohe001 I'm pretty sure that OP already tried to say "I'm doing my best!" but the father didn't believe them. But yeah, maybe it's still lacking details
For the people who were "there" Sunday, you know that drawing I was talking about? Well, I'm about to post it! :D
@El'endiaStarman The impossible triangle was not that hard (but I didn't manage to make it impossible so..) but the little "sonic" next to it was definitively more difficult (and don't look much like the original XD )
A master of ceremonies, abbreviated MC or emcee, also called compère and announcer, is the official host of a ceremony, staged event or similar performance.
The term is earliest documented in the Catholic Church since the 5th century, where the Master of Ceremonies was and still is an official of the Papal Court responsible for the proper and smooth conduct of the elegant and elaborate rituals involving the Pope and the sacred liturgy.
The master of ceremonies sometimes also refers to the protocol officer during an official state function, especially in monarchies.
Today, the term (for a male or...
