Q: How to self-realize that I’m annoying and stop being annoying in general?

David YangI am an Asian female. Sometimes, my friends told me that I’m being annoying without me realizing that, and after they told me, I didn’t know what to do to make them feel less annoyed. I would keep apologizing sincerely, but I think it doesn’t help much — when I’m annoyed by someone, I would only ...

Q: How do you explain, to your partner, that Stack Exchange is important to you?

apaulI doubt I'm alone in this, so I figured it would make a worthwhile interpersonal skills question... How do you explain, to your partner, that Stack Exchange is important to you? My partner occasionally gets really frustrated hearing me talk about, seeing me on, or any real mention of Stack Exch...

Hmm...

@apaul - tough question of yours to answer, in my opinion...

@D.Hutchinson Yup, that's why I asked it.

in the sense that I don't see a way where you could convince your partner to feel that way, if they didn't see SE in the way that you do - an altruistic way to spend time and belonging to a community that you can grow with. for instance, spending a lot of time at the bars in my neighborhood with my friends to watch
NFL football every week is not something I could ever do happily, and I would think that doing so is an utter waste of time every week, and nothing could ever change my mind about it
SE usage is personal to you, and personal matters never lead to effective negotiations, right?
they're not going to see the value in SE, if they choose not to do so ...
anyway, that's how I feel ... I don't think the question can be answered ...

5:48 AM
Oddly I suspect that if I were hanging out with people at a bar, they would see it as me "spending time with friends" and probably wouldn't object.

They wouldn't object? Sure. But, what about you? @apaul
Would it upset you, because you feel they are wasting time standing around at a bar watching football?

@D.Hutchinson Not particularly. It's healthy for people in relationships to have their own interests.

6:07 AM
true @apaul
now I understand better why you asked your question @apaul
regarding your last message, that's probably your answer, too -- explaining to your partner how it's healthy for people in relationships to have their own interests, and SE happens to be one of yours.

@Tinkeringbell, time really flies when one is on Stack Exchange :(

While I don't have a problem with questions involving sex, I get the impression that there currently much more of them. Am I wrong?
We had oral sex 2 times (even 3 times if you count the same question being posted twice), the porn actress future wife, now someone's sexually attracted to his step-mother...

yeah idk

Q: How do I tell my step-mother that I am sexually attracted to her?

JasonI've been living with my dad and step-mother and lately I realize that I am sexually attracted to my step-mom. My dad's in his 40s and she is in her late-20s, which means she's just a few years older than myself. When my dad is traveling for work and it's just me and my step-mom living together...

Q: How could I determine if one simply could not or also would not like to go on a date?

user10649I am not particularly good at picking up on social cues, and, regardless, a question of what cues might indicate the answer to my question would be more opinion-based. For context, I am an 18-year-old male college student in the United States. She is also 18. We met a little less than half a y...

@JarkoDubbeldam That's cool :D
Might be the fact that you're suggesting experimenting to someone that hates oral sex? Playing dumb: experimenting sounds like you're suggesting her to go even further, but she already stated she feels oral sex is somehow wrong... which to me sounds like anything other than 'regular' might feel very wrong to her and so the experimenting is a bad idea?

Or Tim lost his keys, that's also a possibility ;)

He mentioned that he was drowsy, so it's possible :D

@AnneDaunted No, you're not. If I can find the will and time, I think it's time to rummage through the meta's of health and parenting to see what they do with such topics
I get the impression that we're currently about the only SE that allows sex questions?

@Tinkeringbell unless you count Health.SE

@Mithrandir So they do huh? That's why I said I wanted to rummage through their meta's as well ;)
But maybe this is a bit like the ID questions over on Movies.... they're now talking to get rid of them entirely because they only cause problems...
So, we just need to build up a track record of more bad sex questions than good ones, and we can have a meta discussing the banishment of these types of questions?

11:21 AM
@Mithrandir Later maybe, I wasn't planning on hanging around here for hours today ;)

@Tinkeringbell Yep. I'm still astonished at how low quality they are on Movies.SE, whereas on Scifi.SE they're generally high quality.

@Mithrandir Oh well, we need more than just these few questions to determine whether we want them around or not, and until then it's just a lot of work moderating them

Oh sure, yeah.

Q: I saw what gift I am getting by accident. What should I do?

keontI saw what my gf intends on giving me, it's such an awesome gift that I feel very guilty of knowing what it is before she gives it to me, because for us a big part of the gift is enjoying the reaction of the other person. I do not think telling the truth will help, but if the day comes and my re...

Voted to close as primarily opinion-based.

@Tinkeringbell I don't think that we should banish questions about sex in principle. I was just wondering, because to me it seems that there are quite a lot of them in a short span of time. They are almost all of rather low quality, too. I got the impression that they were rare before (but perhaps they were DVed into oblivion before I could see them back then).

Q: When would it be "asking too often"?

HugoBDesignerI've been lurking around IPS and some other Stack Exchange domains for several months now, only recently having created an account and asking my first question. @IamSoNotListening Nope. The only one I'm stalking is Riker. I just like to keep an eye on things.
And yes, I'm annoying and have impossible standards for answers on this site.

Q: How do I get my doctor to give me the operation I need?

Jennifer 442I am posting this question in SE:IPS because I'm not asking about what treatment do I need -- my question is how do I get my doctor to agree to the operation I already know is necessary? I have a herniated abdominal wall (muscle tissue) and every now and then, something (perhaps a loop of small ...

Q: How to defend yourself from a story being told for a hundredth of time?

AmraI once had a neighbour, a lovely elderly lady who was very communicative. The first time we talked she told me a story about her life as a young girl and how she met her husband. It was a wartime story, very interesting, and I listened with undivided attention. The problem was, she repeated the...

@TheTinyMan I didn't assume that. @Tinkeringbell seemed to suggest that people may have thought that I should have.

Q: Trip delay & compensation

user10662I recently went on a trip that a friend paid for. We were delayed and received a voucher as compensation. My friend thinks she is entitled to both vouchers, hers and mine. I don't. Q: Show off your hats!

MithrandirWith Winter Bash 2017 nearing its end - another 5 days and all the hats go back in the box - why don't we take the opportunity to show off our hats and display our achievements? You can screenshot your hats and post an answer below, and show off your posh headgear! Post hats, hats, and more hats...

This is pretty squarely on-topic. After all, we usually wrap up the event with a blog post that showcases some interesting or funny uses of hats, what better way to not overlook something than to set up a place where folks can just submit them? I'll reopen this if it gets closed. — Tim Post ♦ 22 hours ago

@Mithrandir It's absolutely on topic.
People may not like it, but that doesn't make it off topic. Probably just the "in crowd" being curmudgeonly. If Tim or Shog had posted it, it would have a hundred upvotes by now...

@CaptainBohemian I'm meeting my mom and brother to go have Argentinian skirt steak for lunch mmmm :)

@D.Hutchinson I am so hungry now. And it's midnight here now. I am thinking about going to convenience store to have instant noodles.

yummm - great* idea
@CaptainBohemian it's really cold today; 19 degrees :(

@D.Hutchinson I feel hunger is such a trouble since I am usually not motivated to go out to eat alone. I don't usually eat that meaty meals as you. I am more motivated by and enjoy the accompanying air than the food itself.
@D.Hutchinson I feel so cold, too. It's 18 C here according to the weather web.

I see @CaptainBohemian :)

this noon I went to eat shrimp noodles. I was not so satisfied with it because I found two bugs in it.
