Global users is always a great thing for stuff like this, especially with Moderators so we can essentially keep the site clean 24/7 rather than having a 6 hour period where no Mods are available. It also helps answer questions from around the world too which is always handy.
My only concern is the fact that currently the top 3 voted people are all US timezones, would be nice to now have all the moderators in the same timezone so people in other timezones can access a mod easily
Not that that's a BAD thing, it's great that we have 3 moderators which the majority of the community likes, just my concerns is coverage of all timezones, day and night
@Crafter0800 SE will almost certainly take that into account when making the decision, AFAIK.
Practicality does play a role in their choices, and you're right, it might be impractical to have such a gap.
I hope that the site's going to be pretty diverse, because it's got that potential, and as John said above, we already do have folks from around the world.
As we grow, it's going to be more important that we become a site for everyone, by everyone.
My only concern about them then picking someone from another timezone, is that literally everyone else has at most an overall vote of +1, which means they aren't the communities favorites, and I'm not sure what the right balance is lol
I trust SE to make the right choice in the end, they've been doing it far longer than any of us and probably know what's best lol
@Crafter0800 That's true. It seems like all of the nominations quickly racked up 2-3 downvotes across the board, which seems a bit odd; I haven't seen any specific criticism raised. I have trust in the current suggestions, but I'm guessing some people disagree. It'd be nice to know why.
Yea it does seem odd EVERYONE got 2 or more downvotes, I'm suspecting maybe some trolls, but that's only my guess, odds are was just coincidence lol. Feedback would be nice (I love constructive criticism) but I can see why others might not share it.
Also I've noticed I keep forgetting to tag/converse my comments to you xD sorry
@HDE226868 at the end of the day (yay I remembered) all we can do is see who SE select, and have faith in their decision and support the selected Mods to the best of our ability :P
"a small arthropod animal that has six legs and generally one or two pairs of wings"
(bolding mine)
Arachnids are what spiders are, having 8 legs.
Hm in prep to the public beta I'm looking through all the tags we have on public and meta, should I be creating meta posts when I'm considering removing redundant tags or should I be just going ahead and doing it if I feel they are duplicate? Example - interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/203/…
Another example on meta is the tags tags and tagging, however given that other sites use only tags I'm planning on replacing them anyways
I would like to ask a question but not sure if it would be off topic. Is it appropriate for members of a group of friends to buy the soft drinks for the designated driver especially if they have given up a night's drinking (not a non-drinker) for the sake of the others? My problem is how to frame it without it being opinion based. Any suggestions?
@Crafter0800 It really depends. Most things when they come to moderation don't need immediate action. We tend to think they do but it's not going to be super damaging if it sticks around for a while, and really bad content can be removed with enough regular users. All three of the mods on Arts & Crafts are in the US and we haven't had much trouble...
@HDE226868 yep I agree, when you're both in the room conversing like this, it's easy to see who is being addressed. @Crafter0800 when I come in the room after the fact I always link a reply, so people know what I'm referring to
@HenryWHHackv2.0 no spiders are not insects :)
@Crafter0800 yep I saw that, I think it's a good idea
@rm that sounds like a good question and a good idea
