1:31 AM
@MiG and maybe a USB ethernet doohickey

5 hours later…
MiG
6:53 AM
Morning :)
@JourneymanGeek yeah, I guess a lot of devices come without an ethernet port these days :/

Morning ...

MiG
7:21 AM
That doesn't sound very positive... Everything alright?

Just want to go back to bed. I slept horrible last night, it was too hot.

MiG
Oh noes :(
gf came back from work with a very painful back, she also slept badly :/

Not thinking tonight will be any better. Maybe I'll be lucky and the weather cools down this weekend/after that, if the prediction is correct.

MiG
tomorrow high chance of rain iirc

Yes, that's an improvement /s then it'll be hot AND humid.
They're also still predicting 25 degrees tomorrow XD

MiG
7:26 AM
try night ventilation
what time do you normally go to bed?

7:41 AM
10PM
I do the night ventilation thing: I have my bedroom window wide open. I can't open more windows, though I do have two ventilation rosters in the back/living room that are open at night.
But yesterday, at 10PM it was still like 20.something degrees outside here, so I didn't get the living room to go much below 21 as the heat from the front came in as well (had a fan blowing towards the outside, but it didn't seem to do much)

MiG
8:02 AM
I have a fan blowing inside on the window sill, that's a bit more effective (as hot air is higher up in your room, so that gets driven out this way)... but it still requires a bit of a temperature difference yeah

@MiG Yeah. To be honest I tried that too, but only the living room window has a window sill. And the wind was coming mostly in through the front (bedroom) window, so more hot air would get in than cool air, it seemed. I don't know.
I will probably make a little shelf I can fit directly in front of the bedroom window someday, yesterday I stacked some boxes XD

MiG
8:23 AM
if the indoor temp is lower than the outdoor temp it's worth it, wind is free ventilation :)
if you can open up windows on opposite sides of the house (and maybe secure loose paper and stuff), this works very well

8:59 AM
Yeah, I can open windows on opposite sides of the house, and usually that works pretty well. Just that yesterday the heat from the stones meant that I could actually feel that warm air still radiating from it, and hanging in front of my window :(
If you have a good stormy autumn day though, I can get the temp down from >20 to <15 in no time XD

1 hour later…
MiG
10:15 AM
@Tinkeringbell ah, that sucks :(
@Tinkeringbell yeah :D

10:54 AM
22.2 inside now :(
Time to put icecubes in my drinks.

GM everyone

afternoon to you too :P
Long time to no see, how has life been?

busy! company went through refinancing and maybe things are getting better? we moved office and the new one is lovely

11:09 AM
That's sounding like something at least!

yepp, and how have you been getting on?

Also busy. Both work and private. Moved into the new place, and it still needs work here and there, and work is busy too. They're requiring me to go back to the office one day a week as well, which is pretty much a waste of time adding to the busy feeling even more.
Right now, I can't figure out how to cool this apartment down, and it's only like 25 outside for a day or three. It's probably going to be hell once we get weeks of 30 degree weather.

MiG
@Tinkeringbell 24 inside here... I opened window and balcony door and getting the occasional nice breeze now
& hello :)

22.3 and climbing. It's a good thing I'm going to have dinner at my parent's place tonight I guess, means less heat added to the apartment by cooking.

MiG
also complimentary loud carnival noises, which is being held on our doorstep btw :(

11:14 AM
Added an outside stovetop to the list, so I can hopefully avoid this next year.
@MiG Still? How long will that stay?

MiG
@Tinkeringbell hehe, that sounds pretty nice
@Tinkeringbell ten days total :'(
end of the week, then it's down to regular drunk students shouting at 4AM

@Tinkeringbell i feel that, i'm required to work 2 a week at the office which adds way too much travel time and cost for my liking when compared with working at home :/ but atleast your new place is getting there :)

It better! I've been living here for over half a year now XD

MiG
thank fuck mine's still merit based - there's the occasional physical meeting / event, but most of my meetings are with people abroad anyway, so it doesn't matter where I take the zoom call :)
although this week I wouldn't have minded full time office for a change, for... reasons

Lemme guess, the carnival and the temp? :P

MiG
11:17 AM
temp is fine, it's the damned carnival :'(
they start around lunch time and continue until midnight
gonna dig up my shorts now

quite some carnival huh? i might recommend some noise cancelling headphones

MiG
got a pair of Bose QC
but they slip out of my ears all the time, and it's unpleasant having to wear those for extended periods of time
I suppose I could use my old Etymotics which fit much more firmly
also, continuous whiffs of cotton candy and other abnoxiously sweet stuff :x

i got myself a razer headset recently that blocks out a surprising amount of noise - my old LG headset snapped at a place i didnt think was possible

Headsets are nice. I just need to remember not to start singing along when wearing mine at the office XD

MiG
11:26 AM
I might demonstratively head bob if I feel like doing so... Mostly at home to annoy gf though :d
and especially while briefly wearing her (unconnected) noise cancelling headphones :D

I run a pair of 'proper'ish headphones at work

yeah when i'm in the office i have a more discreet blutooth set rather than my huge white and RGB gaming one lol

If I want to make some noise, work provided a suprisingly nice BT conference speaker .... and my co-workers are either "Oh its ok"or "TURN IT UP" or "Wait...you listen to death metal?"

i still mostly listen to my cliche punk pop

lol
My music collection is... ecclectic
Like someone links me something and I'll OOOH and... I don't even remember hald the stuff that's in here

11:29 AM
just... wow

MiG
@JourneymanGeek using a wonderboom, waterproof little ball that has surprisingly good sound quality and volume

That's about hm, 20 years of ripping and piracy

MiG
the house echoes like crazy, so I usually take it with me if I want to watch something while at the dining table or kitchen
@JourneymanGeek cough same cough
apparently I've loaded 133GB worth of MP3s and FLACs onto this laptop

A jabra speak 510

MiG
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2
considering getting a second, apparently you can link them for stereo sound

MiG
(I gave this one to gf as a christmas present, and keep finding myself borrowing it :D )

Its basically a little UFO

MiG
oh, that looks pretty useful for meetings

Yup
and has a mute button!

MiG
uni has every meeting room wired up with those logitech meeting bars now, but if we meet anywhere else it's pretty hit and miss
how's the sound quality?
and is it able to clearly carry voices across, i.e. also if people sit further away?
tables are rarely Arthur style perfectly round, people tend to sit in long rectangles

11:35 AM
Hmm, excellent
My office is small so not really tested it long range
I am told it does convey my tone of utter annoyance accurately tho

@AlexRobinson I have a pretty big one, but it's a sony WX-morelettersnumbers-3. Those are pretty accepted in the office, they're at least black and looking sleek. And very, very noise cancelling, to the point where coworkers have to knock on them to get me to notice them if I'm gone good XD

11:53 AM
audio-technica.com/en-us/ath-m50x is my regular office one
its fairly sturdy (I change out the cups every 2-3 years, and have a cheap cover over the headband)
If it dies (and this is a very tanky pair of headphones, looking at this audio-technica.com/en-us/headphones/type/wireless/ath-m50xbt2

Yeah, I need to change the cups on my at-home headset sometime soon too. I looked into just buying a new pair (the battery life on this one is going down) but a new pair would be more expensive than what I originally bought mine for at the moment! So I'll just replace the cups XD
