So... not really a matter of IPS but ... Our team's scrum master is gone for at least a week (maybe more). I've taken over 'presiding' over the standup: Sharing my screen and the JIRA board, and keeping track of time.
As such an 'interim' scrum master, how far do you think my responsibilities go? The whiny coworker keeps using her part of the standup to talk about how difficult her life is, instead of about work. It's a thing that's come up in the latest retro as well (keep the standup more focused) that she's just plain ignoring.
Should I step in and do something about it, or should I just wait this one out until our own scrum master is back (who knows when).
(Another option might be getting the product owner involved, but he's made it pretty clear he's only taking over the 'absolute emergency' stuff that can't wait).
@Tinkeringbell If she's taking more than her share of time to talk about work-unrelated problems, your responsibilities involve to remind her what you're here for. I imagine that's what workplace SE would tell you.
@ArthurHv The point is we have been reminding her (as a team, so it's not just me). It reached a point this morning where I muted her microphone just to be able to tell her to focus, as it was actually impossible to get a word in otherwise. I just read an e-mail from another coworker that thinks we really should do something too, so I'm going to start writing an e-mail to her right now, reminding her of what we agreed upon last retro.
@Tinkeringbell It's a bit concerning, tbh, but you couldn't let that happen or the team will resent on her for eating their time for whining. I don't know, I'd try to seek long-term solutions, probably involving her manager.
@ArthurHv Yeah... the point is that the scrum master was supposed to do that long-term work. Still, if she ignores the e-mail, sending another one with her manager CC'ed might be a good option :)

@ExtrovertedMainMan In my opinion it is the best to let it go and move on, one cannot talk their way and convince someone else to be attracted to them, it must happen organically at the first place. It is not a matter of logic and reasoning, but a subconscious psychological imperative.
What factors can cause siblings to become cruel and violent toward each other even to the point of wanting to kill each other?
