Q: How to handle serial downvote from diamond mod

leymannxYesterday there came this question: Gulp in Bootstrap child theme. I flagged it for being off-topic and provided a helpful link in the comments. One of our diamond mods provided an answer to it. I downvoted this answer for being rather a comment than an answer and for answering an off-topic ques...

Q: Is WP-CLI on-topic or off-topic?

leymannxIn an unrelated answer to an unrelated question one of our diamond mods stated that questions and answers about WP-CLI are off-topic. For example this one: wp-cli silently fails with error code 255 I originally come from Drupal StackExchange where questions about Drush (which WP-CLI is being ins...

Q: Is it okay to ask this question about best implementtion method?

Robert AndrewsI have read the docs regarding Asking a good question. I understand that questions should be "answerable". Yet, I have a question and I'm not sure how it will go down. A copy of the question post is at https://support.advancedcustomfields.com/forums/topic/events-object-taxonomy-or-post/ Title ...

When adding dropcaps, why doesn't it wrap the character into a span rather than add a class to the p tag. Not the end of the world at all but why not!
I take that back. I quite like p.has-drop-cap:not(:focus):first-letter

@ChristineCooper I think the idea of dropcaps was to do it by CSS without changing the content at all. Having said that, still some tuts like this one use your suggestion too.

Are there any rules about WordPress.org APIs?
Like frequency of queries?

I don't think that's well documented
you'd best ask in the WP Make Slack
in one of the meta channels probably

ok

Any idea why WordPress video shortcode would produce an error like "Media error: Format(s) not supported or source(s) not found
mejs.download-file: ..." ???
Works fine in most browsers, but some of giving this error.
Console says "AUDIO/VIDEO: Unknown MIME type."
mp4 seems like a pretty common file type.

mp4 is just a container format IIRC
like AVI, or MKV it defines the structure of the file, but not the encoding of the video data itself
I don't think that's a WP issue specifically unless it's the JS player library
which is unlikely
maybe you're using a proprietary encoding with a browser that didn't pay the license fee?
e.g. h.264

hmm possible
I used a 3rd party service to crunch the video
@TomJNowell How can I see that information?

3:10 PM
@MichaelEcklund ¯_(ツ)_/¯

you should talk to your 3rd party service support

@TomJNowell Yes, it's h.264
It also doesnt play .webm videos
same problem.
Not sure if that still boils down to codecs or not.

3:28 PM
you need to pay a licence for h.264 decoder support, not all browsers do
and not all browsers support webm either
I don't know what I would recommend, your video crunching service might know
usually you give a <video> tag and define multiple sources for various resolutions and encodings so the browser can choose
