so $a = 'string' . $a .'other string' can cause out of memory error when $a is big.
.... and I always blamed inefficient DB structure when people ask memory outage kind of questions here

What's your favorite forum system for WordPress? Or maybe one where you create a bridge?
Working on this massive project and I am considering to code my own forum for them rather than install a third-party one. The reason is because generally, many of them are performance heavy and have TONS of features that's not really needed.
Although it comes down to this: can I be bothered. =D
I wish there was a bare-bone forum system with only the essentials, and filled with appropriate hooks and filters. =)

A: WP_Query with "post_title LIKE 'something%'"?

Christine CooperWith some vulnerable solution posted here, I come with a bit simplified and sanitized version. First, we create a function for the posts_where filter which allows you to only show posts matching specific conditions: function cc_post_title_filter($where, &$wp_query) { global $wpdb; if ( ...

@ChristineCooper Make it and put it in the WP Plugin Repo
I bet you people would love to use it.

It's mainly an alteration of some of the other answers. I am still baffled that they added the title parameter in WP 4.4, but didn't add a %LIKE% version... :*(
Making shit hard for us again.
lol

@ChristineCooper LIKE means that mysql needs to do string compare on all posts at the worst case. Since it is "%" on the right hand side, this can be probably done fast, but left hand side "%" gona be bad for performance on C type strings.
... unless mysql holds strings in some other format than the normal C one
so hopefully the reason is to try and limit the ability of people to shot themselfs

You are right, but what is WordPress without a few errors connecting to the database messages! =D

I've pretty much gotten comfortable with the idea that WP search is bad and that instead of putting effort into fixing it, a smaller amount of effort into Elastic search yield so much more
having said that, my site has no search box
and most people wanting those things are usually doing something wrong to begin with
